  • 1997 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Tasted blind – medium golden colour, clear. Nutty notes with roasted lemons and hints of burnt honey. Medium body, solid acidity still, short finish. Somewhat watery on the finish. Soft and round in the mouth. Better on the nose than palate. Drink now. Good.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

With sablefish, crab cauliflower puree, grapefruit beurre blanc...

  • 1983 Château Lynch-Bages 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Tasted blind – nice medium red with a slight browning throughout. Slight barnyard, cedar, red cherry notes and hints of baking spice. Silky mouth feel. Medium body and acidity, resolved tannins with a lengthy finish. Best nose of the Lynch Bages trio (’83, ’85, ’02). Went back to this an hour later and it had faded quite a bit. Drink now. Excellent.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

With quail stuffed with chestnet, chorizo, port reduction...

  • 1985 Château Lynch-Bages 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Tasted blind – more youthful in colour than the ‘83. Huge nose of bell pepper, coffee grinds, tobacco with hints of cranberries and cedar. Slightly fuller in the mouth than the ’83 but not as much cedar. Very different than the other two Lynch Bages. Best palate of the of the trio. Cab Franc-like on the palate with some greener notes along with redcurrants, blackcurrants and some spice. This wine held up throughout the night. This bottle was drinking very well now and I don’t see this getting any better. Drink now and for another 3-5 years. Excellent.

  • 2002 Château Lynch-Bages 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Tasted blind – deep ruby red, clear. Sweeter on the nose giving notes of cranberry cocktail, blackcurrants, burnt sugar and some sort of lifted/chemical note. Younger, riper and fuller than the two older Lynch Bages before it. Sweeter palate. A well made and very good wine considering the vintage. Got better as the night went on. Hold. Very good. 88+

Flight 5 (1 Note)

With braised short-rib, linguini, red wine demi...

  • 1999 Château Pavie 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Tasted blind – darkest wine yet. Almost purple. Darker notes on the nose too with plum, blackberries and blackcurrant. Some smoky notes as well. Intense and concentrated on the palate. Surprisingly soft in the mouth for being such a big wine. A little heat coming through on the finish. Started to open up a bit more in the glass. This is excellent now but needs more time to develop. Try again in 5-10 years. Excellent. 92+

  • 2000 Château Léoville Poyferré 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Tasted blind – Darkest wine yet, slight purple hue throughout. Sweeter nose, ripest so far, but in a good way. Lots of cedar notes and blackcurrant on the palate. Silky and round in the mouth. Great balance for such a young wine. I’d love to try this again in 5-10 years. Hold. Excellent. 92+

Tasted blind – Deep ruby in colour. Dirty nose with some poopy notes, black fruits, hints of bell pepper and tobacco. Very northern Rhone like on the nose. Still quite a bit of tannin and acidity. Rich in the mouth and very smooth. Needs time. Excellent. 92+
