Here is the story: This is one of my favorite Bordeaux and I have plenty of 2000 Pape-Clement in my cellar, so I know exactly how it tastes. I opened this bottle and it as strangely tannic, earthy with compressed aromas. Hmm, I thought, but since there are bottle variations with older wines, I decided to decant it. Once I finished decanting I saw a big piece of "cork" swimming on top of the decanter. After I poured that piece of "cork" into a glass to remove it, I noticed that it was a wasp, not cork. Wow, what a freak accident. I will keep the wasp to tell the story and next time I visit the Chateau. :-) Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

4/6/2024 - Sperls Likes this wine: 95 pointsDrank at the same Commanderie event and agree completely w BordeauxOne’s note. An opened recorked bottle was still singing on the next night w homemade burgers. However, an 05 Leoville Barton tried alongside at the event had a lot more structure and black fruit to it. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

4/2/2024 - Jhalpern27 Likes this wine: 90 pointsMy last of my half case. This has been easily in my 10 ten white wines . However this bottle did not quite perform as past bottles. I’m not sure if this is the bottle variation or if it getting long in the tooth. I think it’s time to pop the corks on these. |

4/2/2024 - Jhalpern27 Likes this wine: 91 pointsSolid PC, my cellar tracker said I should start drinking my case. So I decided tonite to open a bottle. All I can say is it is way to soon to be consuming these. I double decanted early this morning knowing we had a wine night scheduled and thought we should give this 16 a try. This is way too premature to drink, I will be waiting at least 3-5 years before my next bottle. There is lots of potential here, but IMO this needs some more slumber in the cellar before revisiting. |

3/21/2024 - hkbob Likes this wine: 95 pointsAnother superb bottle of this wine. Absolutely singing, especially when paired with Greek lamb shank. Wow. Fragrant dark cherry nose with earth, tobacco, mesquite and iodine notes. Full-bodied with silky tannins and a long finish. A 30 minute decant was all it needed to be at its best. Excellent. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

3/24/2024 - Chrysostomus Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis is the softer version of the 2011 Pape Clement. Tannins in the background, very smooth mouthfeel even right after PnP. Not much decant needed but benefits from air. Very nice effort for the vintage and in good shape now. Hold or drink with a short decant. 92-93 pts. 2 people found this helpful, do you? 3/24/2024 - Chrysostomus Likes this wine: 93 pointsHad a 375ml and a 750ml side by side. The 375ml seemed much older, red/brown colored, tannins a little bit more rectangular. The 750ml was in perfect shape, tannins silkier and lasted longer. Tasted blind and guessed, these would be 2 different wines! |

3/22/2024 - Musinus wrote: 92 pointsOpaque purple. Aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, violets, licorice, rhubarb, and smoke that evolve over a day to a heady cherry liqueur. Very restrained palate that demonstrates stem and red berries but little else initially. After a day, cassis dominates the palate, yet the wines's flavors remained cloaked. Persistently finishes with a bitter tinge. Best to let this one take a long nap. |
