Barolo 2010 - check-in on some top names, tasted blind: Dark garnet. Lots of dark fruit in the nose here, plum, rosemary. Quite polished tannins. Not the most complex but well made. Group rank 9/15

Tried to open without a decant this time but cork failed and we needed to decant. Didn't seem to hurt the wine. 30 minutes of beautiful ethereal tobacco and leather with good acidity. Still very much alive. Showed well against a line up of younger but very accomplished Barolos.

Dodgy Cork, but the wine held up for around 30 minutes before falling apart. And what a gorgeous wine it was for that period. The nose could almost be the Pan d’epices of a mature valosne romanee, but there is definitely the tar and Rose element to distinguish it.

Double decanted for regular wine group. It was well received. Several thought the wine had age but all were surprised by the almost 28 year old wine with how well it showed. On the nose, dirt and petrol with a hint of floral organic following up. Pallet has some floral with leather and tar notes followed by spicy wood. Great balance. Finishing the last glass 7 hours after initial decant and the wine. Very nice. Decant carefully to show best.

gorgeous red roses, plus spruce tips, sweet orange, red cherry candy, airy spice... this is just wailing on the nose, put this in the right glass and you will be in heaven... still a little tight on the palate, but this still gives so much pleasure, medium-bodied, fine tannins, beautiful floral and earthy inner perfume, long and classic, gorgeous tart red fruit and delicate spice linger long, this is superb and will improve for many years.... last vintage with Monvigliero in the blend, future legend?

Oddero rules, and their wines seem to get better and better every year. This Barbaresco is classically austere, yet at the same time finessed and elegant with gorgeous pure cherry fruit. Accents of licorice, roses and alpine breeze, a little baking spice and tobacco too. Long and tense finish, this is not quite ready, it needs a few years, and a nice meal.

Dinner at Heimat (Utrecht, NL): [Restaurant purchase] No detailed notes. Probably too short in the carafe (30min), was a bit closed initially. For my taste this a bit too ripe with very ripe cherries, some black fruit. I missed some elegance that I enjoy so much in barolo. Still very good

Definitely get a few bottles of this if you can as it is well worth the price. I had not heard anything good about 18 Piemonte, but a trusted wine salesman up in Boston convinced me to buy a bottle and it was a great move. Evidently, Oddero blended in many of there single Vineyard bottlings, and you can really tell. I didn't get the red fruit people are describing. The first bottle (I went back and bought a few more) was a dark brooding Barolo with black fruits like black cherry and fig, licorice, tar, gravel, and some balsamic notes. It was thick and chewy with lush fruit that (in the first bottle) covered up the tannins and made for an extremely easy and beautiful drink. I did however notice that the next few bottles I drank over the next couple months seem to be shutting down a bit, and the tannins are a bit more noticeable. I will sit on my last couple bottles until they turn 9 or 10. This is an incredible buy and I highly recommend to any Barolo drinker.

Still needs hours to a day or even two after opening. It's still really closed just after opening. Decant "agressively" when opening to drink right away.

Opens to a deeply raisined, madder funk. But more mushroom than corruption. The color is tawny, like a port. The initial mouth was restrained, but not bad. So, I decanted the bottle and let it sit.

Over an hour the wine opened with dry fruits, think orange peel and tea, and fine tannins. Ultimately, I like a fresher wine but this old soldier gave a credible showing. I have Two more bottles from my mother in laws house, will report back.

Btw, cork broke. Use a Durand.

Deep ruby with medium, plus intensity, developing aromas of violet, blackberry, raspberry, vanilla, cedar, tar. This wine has high alcohol and medium plus body and acidity with medium tannins. The palate matches the aromas with the addition of chocolate, plum and tobacco. This wine has a medium plus finish.

I decanted the wine for an hour and paired the wine with lasagna. The chocolate, tar and vanilla aroma‘s and flavors become much more pronounced with the red sauce. This wine has soft tannins and a longer than expected finish. It’s a beautiful pairing which improves the overall profile of the wine. This is a good wine that should be drunk now and the next three years. It is likely at its peak right now.

2 hour double decant and this revealed lovely aromas of cherries, roses, tar and balsam notes which gave way to a refreshing, tart red fruited, potpourri and spicy, mineral driven flavors that just need more time. 93+

Nice mature Barolo but doesn't reach the level of really being excellent. Consumed at a dinner amongst many other wines, I didn't get to spend the time with it I'd have liked. Pleasant, but just that.

Outrageously good even this young. Had one glass from Coravin and then opened and decanted for a couple of hours a few weeks later. From a hot vintage and as a result, the fruit is a little darker and richer than you normally see from Oddero - but still bound together nicely with a seam of tannic structure. A bold Barolo, that will age seamlessly. First one from the case so really looking forward to watching this one develop...

Pale to medium garnet, with a bare suggestion of bricking at the rim. Smelled pronounced aromas of rose, red cherry, violets, and deeper in some savory herbs; tasted the fruit first but with the rest alongside, and added a little tarriness from the fine-grained tannin. Medium-plus body with high (but not searing) acidity and tannin, good intensity, medium-plus fruity finish.

My last bottle, still tasting relatively young, despite the 8 years of age. Good acidity, mixture of blueberry with a bit of red plum, and a touch of tannin. Quite a nice barbera, need to acquire more recent vintages from this fine producer

Age had hit this bottle. There is still overripe fruit but structure is mostly gone and tertiary aromas fairly limited. Could be bottle variation, feels like 10-15 years it’s past, previous bottle around a decade ago was great

The fruit for the Oderro Poderi e Cantine “classico” comes from a combination of the Bricco Chiesa in La Morra and the Bricco Fiasco in Castiglione Falletto MGAs. The former being considered Oddero’s “home vineyard”.

Poured into a decanter about 30min before service. In the glass, the wine displays a beautiful ruby color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with very pretty notes of Montmorency cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, a bed of roses, orange peel, fresh sage, eucalyptus and crushed rock. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, drying and grippy. This is all about balance and freshness. These are quite giving already but undoubtedly have a long life ahead. Drink now with patience or through 2044.
