5/10/2020 - Radboy wrote: 95 pointsSurprisingly approachable at the 30 minute mark. Great balance, a bit more refined than usual, seemed to improve over the next hour (we scarfed it.) I am looking forward to trying a second bottle with a longer decant. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (8) |

5/16/2014 - Radboy wrote: NRI had a good laugh reading reviews of poor folks who are attempting to enjoy this wine now. This isn't close to being ready and I won't touch mine for atleast another 2-3 years for starters. And then it would be with a 2-3 hour minimum decant. It usually hits its sweet spot at the 5-9 year mark. This is kinda like folks hating apples when they are still green and aren't ripe to begin with. 4 people found this helpful, do you? 10/27/2019 - Radboy wrote: 94 pointsThis opened a bit on the tight side at the 90 minute mark. Delicious cherry and berry fruit. At the three hour mark things started happening and this evolved beautifully over the next 2 hours. Me thinks this is just entering a drinkable stage but that patience will be amply rewarded in another couple of years minimum. I expect it to score higher then. 6 people found this helpful, do you? 2013 Horsepower Vineyards Syrah Sur Echalas VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
4/3/2020 - Radboy wrote: 96 pointsOpens with a dark ruby hue that is bit lighter than the normal Christophe creation. This classic Horsepower nose exceeds description. Why try? Delicious! Medium in body and depth, the enveloping fruits of bramble berry, cocoa, olive and stone round the palate. A definite whiff of a backyard wood fire through the mid-palate. What the hell is that doing there? It soon is merged back with the deep dark fruit that is an amalgam of black olive stew, saddle leather (no manure thankfully), black cherries and berries surrounded with unmistakable Rocks panache. Terrific! This is not a deep or brooding wine, like so many of Cayuse’s wines can be. They can sometimes take hours to decipher, if only they would last that long. Rather, this is a come-to-Papa, sexy wine, begging to be drunk now and enjoyed as is. A real beauty! Slainte! 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (5) |

9/23/2020 - Radboy wrote: 95 pointsThe usual insane combination of blood red meat, dirt, blackberry jam coating the tongue, with black olive overtures and whiffs of barnyard sea salt haze. I am not sure whether to drink it or use it as a substitute for avocado toast to cure the previous night’s hangover. As subtle as a kick in the nether regions, this should not be served to sensitive people as it is bold and brazen and goes where no one has gone before. This should age like my old grannie and be good for years. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

7/13/2019 - Radboy wrote: 94 pointsFunk, brine, grilled red meat, dust. And a fabulous nose. In fact, I could just swill this and be pretty OK. There is a sweetness on the nose that is irresistible. Polished finish, I think the mid-palate could be a bit hardier but that is nitpicking. Drinking quite well and it will be interesting to see if it picks up more complexity. Is there enough back bone to age long? 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

9/3/2016 - Radboy wrote: 94 pointsThis is starting to reveal itself and is a lovely drink. Hints of mushrooms and dark earth. Dark berry fruit and just a slight hint of the normal black olive found in these wines. A bit restrained, as others have noted, but not in a bad way at all. I would say the flavors are more intricate, not in your face as in the hotter years. Love it. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

3/17/2016 - Radboy wrote: 93 pointsFrom a cooler and more interesting year, this is an intriguing wine. The fruit is deep and dark but its essence is elusive. Notes of iron, earth and black olives on the nose. There is a hint of chocolate on dark berries throughout the tightly defined fruit. But there is a subtle depth to this that seems to just be emerging. What lies ahead? 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |
