5/10/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 88 pointsDidn't take detailed notes here. From what I can remember - black fruit, leather, and tobacco on the nose. I remember there being a little too much fruit here for me to think this was overly elegant. Decent mouthfeel - tannins were still pretty firm though. I think I overpaid a little for this - maybe that's why I'm not more impressed. Still a good bottle of inexpensive cab. |

5/29/2011 - cbkamp Likes this wine: 90 pointsMuch better this time around - maybe because it was the last bottle of the night. Cassis, blackberry, and healthy dose of oak (too healthy perhaps). Black fruit with teeth gripping tannins. A little hot too but seems more integrated this time around. |

5/28/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 90 pointsUnique sauvignon blanc. Nose of apple, lemons, and some pineapple/grapefruit. Less citrus fruit than I'm used to - very nice. Very dry on the palate - lemon and grapefruit flavors predominate. Very interesting peppery aspect on the finish. |

4/15/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 92 pointsLots of blueberries and blackberry - maybe even a little sweeter on the nose when cold. Nice mouthfeel - maybe a little too much heat on the end? Very long finish. Drinking amazingly well for such a young PS. |

2/4/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 91 pointsDrank straight from bottle. Pronounced nose with gamey/smoky herbs. On the palate - very concentrated with black pepper standing out over the fruit (blackberry and dark cherries). Big wine with nice balance. Decently long, peppery finish. Nicely done. |

8/7/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 92 pointsBarnyard funk, petroleum, and red fruit blend on the nose. Pretty interesting. The barnyard smell eventually blew off and became more earthy. The fruit was restrained on the palate compared to other Cali Pinots we drank side-by-side. Very earthy - nice mouthfeel. Very long finish. |

10/28/2011 - cbkamp Likes this wine: 90 pointsReally nice even when warm. Complex mix of fruit on the nose. Apple, pear mice with tropical fruits. Exceptional balance with nice mix of fruit, acidity, and alcohol. Tropical fruit on the palate - grapefruit, pineapple. A little spice on the finish. Very nice wine. |

5/24/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 93 pointsWow. This is amazing zinfandel - one of the best I've had all year. It's fruity without being too jammy and over-the-top. Sweet blackberries and blueberries with a hint of mint on the nose. The mouthfeel is just amazing, almost velvety. The tannins, fruit, and alcohol are very nicely balanced. There's definitely some heat which makes for a spicy, long finish. Outstanding overall - wish I had bought more. |

10/31/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 94 pointsNose of bright cherry, vanilla, cloves, a little medicinal, and other spices I couldn't really pick out. Really extraordinary. On the palate, tart cherries move to earthy spice on the mid-palate, then to pepper on the finish. Amazing mouthfeel for such a young wine. Very nice, clean acidity makes this a fantastic food wine. Quite Burgundian as someone else pointed out. My first experience with Arista single vineyard did not disappoint. Outstanding wine. |

11/15/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 92 pointsOn the nose, plum, raspberry, oregano, mint, and a little mocha. Very nice. First sip was like a kick in the face. Very acidic but not in a bad way. It was fantastic with Italian food (as one would expect). Very interesting fruit on the palate - mix of blackberries and raspberries to me. Big spicy finish. This wine exceeded expectations. Drink or hold. |

9/25/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 93 pointsDecanted for 2 hours and drank over another 2+ hours. Incredibly complex nose - it kept changing as the glass emptied. Started out as black fruit with smoky meat. It turned to licorice and cola, then to tobacco, cocoa, and spice. Spicy palate with elegant black fruit, cola, and licorice. Tannins were definitely present initially but smoothed out over time. What it lacks in balance, it makes up for in mouthfeel. Reminded me that I don't drink enough Syrah these days. It's still a baby, and I think it will get better over the next few years. |

2007 Foxen Pinot Noir "Select Smoke" Sea Smoke VineyardSta. Rita Hills more |
3/23/2012 - cbkamp Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis has been open for about 5 hours and it's gotten better over time. Nose is really exceptional - strawberry, cherry, a little cola, orange zest, all spice, cloves, pine needle, and a hint of alcohol. On the palate, nice blend of earthiness and red fruit. Nice acidity with structure. A little hot for me, and the finish is shorter than I would have expected. This is outstanding to be sure, but I'm not sure it's worth the premium over the traditional Foxen Sea Smoke. |

4/2/2013 - cbkamp Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis wine wowed me. Big floral notes, black licorice, chocolate, with cassis, no green at all. Black fruit on the palate with mocha and licorice. Silky tannins. Very round with a 30 sec finish. One of the best cab francs I've ever had. |

Intense buttery/vanilla pineapple, and other citrus components (lemon?) on the nose. The wine has a tremendous mouthfeel which is quite pleasant with the pineapple and pear predominant to me. For me, the oak and malo are little over-pronounced. I am confident many others will like this style of wine. |

5/6/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 89 pointsI knew this was too young, but I had to try it. Big cherry vanilla on the nose with some floral notes - very nice. Very nice mouthfeel with tart cherries. Fruity and acidic but still elegant - oak is integrated very well. Definitely drinkable now, but I will hold on to the others and see how this thing evolves. |

10/7/2011 - cbkamp Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis took about 2-3 hours to come around. Still a huge wine that is wound pretty tight. After some time, this turned out extraordinarily well. Nose was sweet blueberry and blackberry, a little oak, sage, and mint. The palate was concentrated with plenty of tannins but still nicely balanced. Bramblefruit with a little dirty minerality mixed in. A little hot on the finish. |

7/1/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 90 pointsPopped and poured. Big nose with sweet cherries and strawberries. These flavors translated to the palate as well. A real "juicy" wine with a wonderful mouthfeel. There is a lot of fruit for sure (and maybe few other ancillary flavors), but as someone already mentioned, this is one that you could drink all day and not get tired of it. |

1/16/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 85 pointsDecanted for 6 hrs before drinking - drank by itself. On the nose, spicy black cherry and currant. Pretty nice balance although it's obviously still a little young. Tannins were pronounced after many hours in the decanter. Not bad but not exceptional. I've had similar Cabs at lower price points |

5/17/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 91 pointsPopped and poured. BIG nose. Jammy blackberry and raspberry - almost sweet on the nose. Mint and other spice as well. The black fruit (blackberry and plum, maybe) carries through the palate. Tannins are nicely integrated. It's definitely got some heat (15.6 ABV), but it's integrated well. Spicy finish with decent length. A consistently good zin. |

6/25/2010 - cbkamp wrote: 89 pointsGoing from memory. Tasted blind. Tannic wine with lots of structure that almost overwhelms the fruit at this point. This will no doubt get better with some bottle age. Finish was long. This one was a surprise for me - my expectations were fairly low. |
