2009 Domaine de ChevalierPessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more |
1/1/2021 - fingers Likes this wine: 93 pointsNotes after 6 hours open. Extra dark ruby color with a thin hint of garnet at the rim, small amount of sediment. Profound aromas that take me straight to Left Bank, but the palate is just ripe and New World-ly enough that I would find myself hard-pressed to guess Bordeaux if given blindly. A term that I have rarely, if ever, used in a tasting note:”fleshy” is what I think applies here as well. It’s as if someone peeled a beautiful bunch of grapes and left nothing but the meat for me. I think it’s happy to serve now with extended aeration but also won’t see any decline for a very long time. 9 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (9) |

3/5/2019 - fingers wrote: NRThis is my second time with this wine and it has not struck me as interesting or attractive to any great measure either time. Just kind of blasé and generic. Given that, it also seems young so I’m not sure how long you’re supposed to wait on these. I have one more that I’ll let sleep for awhile. 5 people found this helpful, do you? 7/20/2021 - fingers Likes this wine: NRI’m not sure how many different wines are produced from Bien Nacido fruit, but this one just seems so sincere and genuinely true-to-place that I promise to up my annual buy on the next offer. 2008 Tablas Creek Esprit de BeaucastelPaso Robles Red Rhone Blend more |
5/11/2016 - fingers wrote: 87 pointsNotes after following for a day open. Color is garnet heading into brown, about 70% opaque with very minor sediment. Aroma is a bit lacquered and oxidative, hanging on to florals while the fruit is slipping away. The palate is mature and smooth with fully resolved tannins presenting a nice glycerin feel, but the fruit won't be much longer for this world. I can't imagine this is going to see a dumb phase like it's French counterparts.. I think it is just heading over the hill and needs to be consumed in the near future. The CT drink window is much too optimistic (and the Galloni window even worse) judging by my experience from my first bottle in January to this example. Both bottles had perfect storage conditions all along, yet the dropoff in a mere 5 months is substantial. 4+10+17+6 = 87 5 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

2011 Captûre Wines Sauvignon Blanc TraditionSonoma Valley more |
10/30/2013 - fingers Likes this wine: 93 pointsEven better with a little age on it, I think this surpases any domestic SB available for the vintage (except maybe the single vineyard Capture). Luscious grapefruit, guava, papaya and fantastic texture and harmony. Very long and complex finish with precision and fullness. A dichotomy of crisp and smooth with more of an Old World elegance than what usually comes out of California. 5+12+18+8 = 93 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

2/7/2021 - fingers Likes this wine: 94 pointsWonderfully described by many others here so I'll just add that what I find so alluring is the mouthfeel and texture, in addition to the beautiful dark fruit , tobacco, and floral profile. 2017 La Crema Chardonnay Russian River Valleymore |
10/23/2020 - fingers wrote: 84 pointsMedium straw-gold color with very slow legs. Medium intensity nose of oak, vanilla, banana, and citrus creme. Palate is consistent with the bouquet and generous on fruit and alcohol. Not enough acidity for my tastes and I’m not too pleased with the overall balance, but it’s no worse than I expected from the middle shelf at the supermarket. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 1/20/2014 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsGood to go after 30 minutes open. Beautiful, yellow-gold color with very slow, thin legs. Honeysuckle, graham cracker, grapefruit, lime, lychee, granite are what I'm picking up. Hints of lemon merengue pie on the finish. The body and texture are blanketing but not heavy or oily. Displays how wonderful this grape can be. 5+11+17+8 = 91 Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

7/9/2015 - fingers Likes this wine: 93 points5 minutes after opening and it's just brilliant. Light to medium yellow gold in color, clear and sound. Modest intensity aroma but lots of complexity and tertiary notes. Graceful and bright on the palate, delivering hazelnut, lemon merengue, mango, persimmon, granite and Kings Hawaiian bread, to name a few parts. Very long on finish and Drouhin scores again. Drink now and over the next couple. 5+12+18+8 = 93 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

NV Result of a Crush Christmas CuvéeWalla Walla Valley Syrah Blend, Syrah more |
12/28/2015 - fingers wrote: 85 pointsNotes after a day open, though not much change in character past the first few minutes. Light to medium dusty ruby color with clear, slow legs and no sediment. Hi-toned nose of cherry jelly, lots of spice, earth, soot, and charred meat. Jammy and a bit candied on the palate, it supplies plenty of dark luscious fruit and a smattering of tannins, along with the strong, smoky oak notes. Short and sweet finish. Though I appreciate some nice flavors here, the structure pushes me off of the "I Like It" button. Not exactly my thang, . 4+11+14+6 = 85 2 people found this helpful, do you? 8/26/2023 - fingers Likes this wine: 90 pointsLight dusty ruby color, really a dark rose'. Generous bouquet of cherry jam with light notes of cinnamon, flowers, and earthy mulch. I am surprised how smooth and mellow the palate feels, while still displaying plenty of acidity and light tannic grip. I liked this closer to room temp than with a chill, and think it works well with standard Mexican fare- tacos, burritos, tortas, enchiladas, etc. 4 people found this helpful, do you? 8/3/2023 - fingers wrote: NRLooking more like an orange wine than rose, but that's excusable. On the nose, I get typical Bandol-esque elements and overall, I find it quite similar to Tempier. But I'm also getting some weird off notes in the bouquet that I'm going to attribute to being stored in 40deg fridge for too long with other foods. Something just doesn't seem right. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

6/14/2020 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsEight months since my first bottle and I think this one has slightly faded in its intensity and drive of fruit. Not sure if it will run a long as other Tempiers, but it is still a lovely sip for the next year, maybe two. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

2009 Maison Ilan ChambertinChambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir more |
10/21/2021 - fingers wrote: 87 pointsBtl #384. Notes after four hours in decanter. Intact but saturated cork. Dark, dusty ruby color with quick legs and a small amount of sediment. Wet wood (not cardboard) and poop are prominent for the first 30 minutes on the nose and then it settles down to dark plum, fig, brambles, and toast. Compared to two years ago, this is coming across like it’s running out of gas and there isn’t going to be enough fruit to carry it long into the future. Throughout the 4 hours of tasting, it never developed up in any way and remained rather flat. 4+10+16+7= 87 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

4/25/2019 - fingers Likes this wine: 94 pointsExcellent wine. I kept trying to find something wrong with it but was unsuccessful, for even as much as I love Huet, I can often find a little something in there that bites at the attraction, particularly the Clos du Bourg bottlings. Not so with this one. Gently sweet and full of lively energy with a beautiful bouquet of flavor. Perfect with spicy Asian cuisine. Tonight it was Sriracha shrimp. Happy to have one more that can sleep for a few more years. 5+12+18+9= 94 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

6/14/2017 - fingers Likes this wine: 90 pointsNotes made after 1 hour in decanter. Medium straw yellow color with a good shine, slow legs and no particulates. Medium to profound aromas of grapefruit rind, quince, and a Riesling-like wax and Vaseline note. Big body/weight, but also great vibrancy and freshness from some bold acidity. Plenty of citrus, apple, and peach flavors. Decent finish and I really can't find any flaws. Very nice, especially for the price. 4+11+17+8= 90 3 people found this helpful, do you? 7/5/2021 - fingers Does not like this wine: 87 pointsNotes after 3 hours open. Light gold color, clear and sound. Light to medium intensity bouquet with basic Cali Chard top notes. The palate has a nice mouthfeel and weight, and in some ways is credible for not being OTT, but the alcohol and oak still blowout the better features. I can find other Chardonnays that please me much more @$25. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

9/10/2022 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsLight gold color with a standard mousse. Modest, typical profile bouquet of baked bread and citrus skin. Richer and more generous on the palate where it picks up nice tropical fruit and limestone implications. Certainly not the fireworks or structure of the 2002 Heidsieck Cuvee Rare that I just had a few days ago, but definitely worth the tariff. 4 people found this helpful, do you?
