Great aromas with lots of black plum and berry alongside rich spice. Good depth and richness with reasonably good complexity. Good now through the next few years.

Sam's 60th Birthday (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): This wine is finally, finally, finally showing its true potential. It has always had a great aromatic profile, with robust black fruit, cigarbox and spice, but the palate has finally caught up as it has softened. So much here, persistently engaging through to its long finish. One of tonight's highlights.

Steak Dinner with Great Wine (Asador Bastian - Chicago IL): Black plum and cherry with good meaty spice and good enough weight, even if not quite at the level I expect from Haut-Brion in a vintage as well as 1995s are tasting today.

Impressive, but the 200 Haut Brion had more of everything.

UGC Bordeaux (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Black plum, cassis, anise and roasted meat. Very good nose, good+ palate. Structure is slightly more dominant than I’d prefer, but this has very good substance, so I think there is also very good overall potential.

2005 Bordeaux en Primeur; 3/26/2006-3/28/2006 (Bordeaux France): En Primeur tasting. Massive concentration and powerful black fruit, with enough floral and spice notes to add complexity. Very firm tannins as well, so there is the stuffing for balance and longevity, even if not perfectly harmonious yet. I'm sure this will be a Parker "100," but I like it a lot anyway. 93-95 points for me.

5/16/2017 4:15:00 PM - Bam_Man, My Pavie 2005 TN was from over 10 years ago and was from barrel, even though I just found these notes and entered them into CT this month. While I haven't had this wine since release, I'm also generally not a huge Pavie fan these days, partly for style and partly for price.

  • Comment posted by Burgundy Al:

Two of them were glorious bottles, which were easily worth the wine's current price; the others were all good, but slightly disappointing to various degrees. The most recent might have been the least interesting of all - still good, but we expect more.

This is a big scaled Bourgogne with impressive density for its level. It is also very ripe (very 2019) with more than a faint hint of volatile acidity. While I do not have a lot of experience with Berlancourt (and this is my first ever Equinces), it was disappointing.

This was very reductive to start, so while it showed lots of potential, it provided me with little pleasure. Wow, did several hours in a decanter help! Popped-and-poured, this showed no signs of the reduction I often find in Raveneau. Lots of lemon and lemon curd with floral hints to starts. Richer citrus flavors to start, turning brighter and leaner towards its finish with good+ weight and length for its level. OK, this is the most expensive Petit Chablis out there, but I can only think of one other nearly as good. Very good now.
