This isn't some leftover barrels with a fun label slapped on it for giggles. Lots of structure here, it's very young with firm tannins. Moves away from the sweet strawberry profile and towards dark brooding fruit, stem or oak forward. Drinking well but better days ahead.

Pale ruby color. Nose of cherry, vanilla, a bit of cherry cola and some sweet baking spice notes. Nose shows much more oak than I would like. Similar flavors on the palate with sweet red fruits and a good deal of oak, more than I have noticed in most Sandler pinots. Very smooth but honestly the oak is overpowering and detracts from the wine. Not my favorite Sandler bottling.

Much brighter than the madzia. Ready out of the gate. Less brooding but hit the higher notes with strawberries, cranberries, baking spice, and lemon zest.

Ready to drink upon Pop N Pour. Cherry, forest floor and some mushroom on the nose. Palate is similar with great ripe cherry notes bouncing with the earth and soft tannins. Nice finish with good balancing acidity throughout. Excellent example of a ripe but restrained California Pinot Noir. Nice Job Ed!

To me I think the Bien Nacido vineyard shines through in this wine despite that its a cuvee. What a bargain!

This bottle is fantastic. Wide base decant, then the glass I poured sat for another hour. No food, some light snacks. Dark pale ruby with a tone of brick. Body is lighter than the opacity suggests. Nose is Bing cherry, subtle purple florals underneath, vanilla, spice. Its still a bit tight and feels restrained. The palate has a nice punch though. Ripe concentrated cherry, cola notes on the edges, pine, with supple tannins. Pleasant mouthfeel. The transition to the middle is marked with stark acidity and the tannins turning more biting; earthier tones giving way to cherry cough drop. More pure cherry fruit coats the finish coming together pretty well integrated; lasting. This will benefit from more time. This was an impulse pop that has been fun to swirl and take my time with. I have one more left, and I think I'll let it sit for another 5, or until I get impulsive again.

Another winner from Sandler and it seems to be in prime time already or, as the musician in me would like to say, "this wine is in the pocket", i.e. the nice harmony among the bouquet elements with appropriate tempo/timing in the mouthfeel and structure. (OK, enough metaphors)
Hold if you want, but I see no harm in testing one out if you have multiples.
And I agree with SEANWSMITHM3 about the Bien Nacido character being displayed... blind, I'm sure I could not tell one apart from the other.

Every time I drink a Sandler it feels like my palate is getting re-calibrated to what wine is really supposed to be about. In the 3 weeks since my last bottle of this, none of the 20 or so wines I've tried pleased me as much as this, including another Sandler (2016 Boer). I'm quite happy to have a couple more of these.

Dark ruby. Cherry nose and palate. Plus acidity hits mid-palate with medium-soft tannins. A joy to drink. Great QPR as well.

Visually it appears older than it is, looking somewhat pale/dilute/dull.

On the palate, the strawberry notes are joined with tart cranberry/rhubarb flavors. The fruit competes with the green flavors that I associate with whole cluster fermentation, and a notable oak influence. There's a good deal of acidity, some of which is poking out throwing the wine out of balance. Slightly awkward at this stage. Recommend hold 18-24 months to see whether the acidity will sort itself out and the oak will integrate. Would score mid-80s today.

25% whole cluster, 75% destemmed. Aged 16 months in 100% used French oak. 14.2% abv.

This is delicious. Fresh cherry/cranberry right when it was opened, but it transitioned to more of a plum/darkish-red fruit/dried cranberry nose after some air. Additional nuances of orange peel and bigelow's constant comment. Medium bodied palate with lots of fruit--definitely a new world pinot. But it also has a ton of acid, which keeps it fresh. More plum/red fruit on the palate, plus orange peel, mint, and clove. Blind I would have called this high quality Santa Lucia Highlands pinot, which seems plausible given the providence. Highly recommend!

PnP and had with Grilled NY Strip. Thought this very very good. medium bodied, well balanced cherry with maybe a pinch of cola, velvety mouthfeel, and finishes long with sweet tannins

Notes after following one glass for an hour open. Pale red brick color with a bright and clear body, no sediment. I get a nice strawberry and dark chocolate lead in the bouquet, followed by pomegranate and warm doughnut. Juicy and fresh palate with deep flavor and a clean, medium-length finish. Some unique character in here that I can't quite peg. I can't say it resembles anything I've had from CA or OR before. Maybe NZ or a Burg or two. Blind, I would probably guess NZ. I am still a novice in the realm.
I keep waiting for a Sandler wine that I don't like, but this is just another hit with me.

Sandler wines have a characteristic taste or style that is evident across vintages, appellations and varietals. I really like Ed Kurtzman's choices in making wine because I have never ever, not once, had a Sandler wine that I didn't enjoy.
This Berserkers 13th Anniversary Pinot Noir is a tribute to the aficionados at winebeserkers.com who are true fans of wine. Excellent tip of the hat!
This wine comes from the Boer Vineyard in the Chalone appellation and Madzia's Vineyard in the Bennett Valley appellation. One barrel of Boer and two barrels of Madzia's. The Boer Pinot was 100% whole cluster and the Madzia's was 100% destemmed. 40 months in neutral French oak. 66 cases produced.
Phew! How's the wine?
Translucent. Light. Rounded with little to no acidity.
Tired of heavy, ponderous, clunky, chewable red wine, this was exactly what I was looking for tonight.
Depth? Limited.
Lift? Limited.
Satisfying? Oh yes! There's a quality to Sandler wines that satisfies my palate. This is why I drink wine.
