Lovely balance between chocolate, dark red raspberry, oak (nice medium tannins). Perfectly smooth - could not tell it was 14.5% ABV.

Probably past its prime, but still excellent balance of fruit, tannins, and oak. Very smooth and easy to drink.Much like a fine Bordeaux wine. No noticeable age deterioration, no sediment.

Nice nose...well balanced....graphite is dominate...opens up considerably after 60 minutes.....definitely not a pop and pour

Four hour decant (two would have been fine). Deep dark ruby magenta color (more ruby than magenta). Scotch tape, chocolate covered malt balls, raspberry, black cherry and browned honey on the elegant nose. Thick, smooth palate, with very fine acidity. Full, round tannins on the long finish.

This is very well integrated. The finish has structure and unusually good fruit notes. Fruit is usually only something we consider on the nose and palate, but here it carries through the finish. 60% Merlot, 30% CF, 10% CS

Very pleasant. Showing well now. Popped and poured. Incredibly well-balanced. Dark fruits, faint whisper of green pepper on the nose. Herbs, some minerals and fine, balanced tannins on the palate. Finish goes on and on. Another hit from Aaron Pott!

PnP then followed over 24 hours. Nose of vanilla, American oak, and cassis. You can tell there is high quality fruit underneath but it is masked by the heavy handed use of new wood. Finish is stopped a bit flat by the green tannins. Not unpleasant but I didn’t want to finish the bottle

Dark magenta. Clove, black cherry cola, and leather nose. Medium bodied, blackberries, pepper, solid well integrated tannins, smoke, and a long dry finish. Excellent.

This bright and tart Merlot-based blend is a real disappointment at this price point and in this vintage. Maybe it's going through an awkward phase, but - if so - it's a really awkward one: it was a bit jarring to taste a Merlot characterized more by tastes of raspberry and acidity, than plum and roundness. I enjoy the range of Napa Merlot, from Blankiet to La Jota to Carter, but I really don't like this wine.

Bright red in color; medium in body; nose of fresh blueberry, leather, and anise. Tastes of cranberry, dried strawberry, gravel, and stems, with a tart and brief finish. Blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.5% alcohol. Same on second day. Maybe this will come into its own, but I've now giving up on the upper blends of Blackbird. The Arise is a decent value; this is not. Maybe wait another year to see if it blossoms, but right now it's thin, unappealing, and more than a little frustrating.

From a 375. PnP, but needed some air time to open. Bdx blend of 81% Merlot, 16% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cab Sauv. A bit reticent on the nose. The palate yielded lots of dark red fruits, more than enough acidity to balance, and quite a bit of drying tannins. Might have benefitted from a good decant to get more air, and to separate sediment. Should hold for several years.

75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet franc, 10% Cabernet sauvignon, 21 mo in 75% new French oak, 29 barrels (736 cases) made, Aaron Pott, winemaker

Deep ruby color, nice fruit nose, starting with red fruit, then some coffee like bitterness, then some earthiness. Smooth tannin and medium finish, with a little flash.

With airtight each time, it actually best on 3rd day. I will assume it can still improve in the next few years at the least.

Deep ruby color. Fragrant red fruit on the nose. Surprisingly not overly fruit forward given the fragrance. Decanted for approximately 1 hour. Was even better after more air. Wonderful bottle that I don’t see improving much more with time. Wish I had one more.

Four hour decant. Deep dark magenta color. Blueberry jam, graham cracker, singed oak, linen (or muslin), subtle sage and cola on the deep nose. Smooth, velvety palate. Firm, but rounded tannins on the medium long finish. Powerful, sexy, well-structured wine...

65% M, 21% CF, 7% CS, 7% PV

Served blind.
Obviously 10 yo Napa Cab family,
but very plummy ripe, but mature fruit.
Lovely now and seemingly holding quite well.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger: Double blind. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate, sandalwood and oak spices. Plenty of wood on the palate as well, along with flavors of plum, chocolate and dark fruit. Shows a bit of heat the longer it sits. I think this is good, just needs time to sort itself out and tame the heat/oak. Guessed Napa cab sauv.

This savory Right Bank blend offers a more earthy and backward Old World profile than I had hoped for at the six-year mark. Cherry red in color, full in body, nose of blackberry, leather, and herbs. Tastes of boysenberry, crushed gravel, tar, and cedar, with a prickly and grainy finish that carries a hint of olives and pepper. 14.7% alcohol. Blend of 64% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. This most likely needs another year or two in order to integrate.

Perhaps it is the large amount of Cabernet Franc, but this wine is too grippy and spicy to be that enjoyable to me. There is Merlot fruit here, no doubt, but it still tastes a bit dark and inward, something that is a bit surprising in a CA vintage that generally is drinking well right now. Even though I've enjoyed the Arise in the past, my guess is that this blend just isn't my style.

It took this one 1.5 hours of air to open up. Spice predominates on the nose with some blackberry notes. Well-balanced on the palate. Graphite, fine tannins, voluptuous fruit. Very slightly warm on the finish.

Dark ripe plum, blueberry, controlled tannin, nice acidity, smooth lingering finish. Quite possibly the best domestic merlot blend I have ever tasted.

One hour in glass before drinking. Allspice, olallieberry (kind of raspberry/blackberry hybrid) and bbq sauce on the nose. Smooth palate. Firm tannins on medium finish. If you think you don’t like Merlot, this will likely change your mind.
