2014 Viña Cobos Malbec Bramare Lujan de Cuyomore |
11/14/2018 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NRAn earlier vintage of this prompted my favorite TN of all time, from pjaines: like a black hole filled with Darth Vader’s blood. I get it. Big and unsubtle, but has its place in the world. Couldn’t drink this regularly, but it stood up to a spicy chili on a chilly fall evening. |

4/5/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRDid the MD Shake (which just seems wrong) and allowed to sit for ~60 minutes. Big fruit, lots of heat from the 16% alc. Really opens up overnight. Definitely good for the money. |

10/18/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRPop 'n pour. This was served too warm--probably around 80 deg. F, which I believe impacted impressions dramatically. The nose had a dramatic cedar attack, with red raspberry and blueberry notes, as well as a powerful sweetness. It had a syrup-like mouthfeel and the palate reflected the nose of cedar and berries, but in a huge gloppy mess with heat from the 15.5% alc. dominating the finish--I couldn't finish one glass of this. |

5/24/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRExactly as advertised: massive fruit, lots of spice, big and bold. Amazingly, the alcohol, at 16.0%, doesn't overwhelm the nose or the palate, but does add some heat on the finish, albeit not as much as expected. Would go great with a big chunk of red meat. Very good QPR. |

10/7/2013 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NRPnP, dominant nose and palate of cedar, with fruit lurking behind. A bit hot on the finish. Did not develop much in the glass over the evening. Ready to go now, IMO, with no upside to holding. |

6/14/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRConsumed over three nights; a little tight on PnP, but opened up to show the characteristic big dark fruit and berries expected from an Aussie Shiraz. Touch of heat from the alcohol, but not enough to distract from the silky feel of this. Nicely balanced with a medium finish. |

3/17/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRPoured a glass, stuck my nose in there to get a whiff, and... nothing. Absolutely nothing. Checked the glass to ensure that there's actually wine in it. That confirmed, try again, and nothing. Nothing at all on the nose. Expected a bit of bite with 14.5% alcohol, but I might as well be sniffing a glass of water. |

2/22/2013 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NRBottle courtesy of and shared with wine-strategies. Initially showing more earthiness and herb, I never would have guessed this was Australian if tasting blind. With air, ripe berries came through and fully filled the palate with a great roundness to it that was thoroughly in balance. Still has another 5-10 years of life in it. Really a great bottle of wine shared with a great friend. |

2/18/2012 - Fugu Me wrote: NRPop and poured. Gorgeous dark ruby in the glass, clear throughout, fading around the rim. Light cedar, mushrooms and fruit on the nose. Beautifully structured smooth tannins with everything in balance, absolutely singing. May be at its peak now, but has plenty of life left. |

10/28/2014 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NRThis is when there should be an "I love it" option in CT. Showed younger than prior bottle, needing 2+ hours of air to really start to open up. Could easily have lasted another 15-20 years. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

8/15/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRDecanted for 8 hours. WOW! Clearly very, very young, but very, very good. Wet slate and graphite on the nose. Dark, dark, dark in the glass, with tremendously dense, concentrated dark fruit, chocolate and a slight smokiness. Iron fist in a velvet glove, this one. The finish goes on and on and on. IF I had more of this, I wouldn't touch it for 10 years, although I'd be sorely tempted. |

9/11/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRLoamy earth and mushrooms with hints of spice and plums on the nose. More plum and blackberry on the palate, with a healthy earthiness underneath. Medium body and finish. Very nice, but better value can be found elsewhere. |

8/15/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRPop & poured, then consumed over 4 hours. Rich, dark in color. Nose gave off spice and cedar, dominating dark plums. On the palate, it put black plums and currants on display. Big and velvety mouth feel, but incredibly smooth. Plenty of structure; this is drinking beautifully now but has the strength to last for years. Tremendously enjoyable and more approachable than other 2005's. |

2/4/2023 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NRDouble decanted, with about an hour in the decanter prior returning to the bottle. Drinking very nicely now, no reason to think that another 10+ years won’t work more magic on it. |

3/28/2015 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NROpened for ~30 minutes, slow-O before tasting. Forest floor, coffee, a bit peppery. Elegant but still with some power to it. In a great spot at the moment. |

12/20/2011 - Fugu Me wrote: NRDecanted for 2 hours, probably needed 4. Initially thought that this was shut down, as there wasn't much going on with the nose or on the palate, but it opened up with some additional air and put its aromas of coffee and more savory flavors on full display, but in a restrained fashion. No reason to think this doesn't have years of life ahead of it. |

11/30/2019 - Fugu Me Likes this wine: NRFrom 375ml. Opened and and allowed to get ~45 minutes of air in glass prior to drinking. Silky on the palate, tannins seem fully resolved. Pleasant herbaceous notes, and palate filling. Paired perfectly with leg of lamb and roasted veggies. |
