100% Petit Verdot is something of a rarity in Canada. At 5 years of age this wine is in a great spot. Deep garnet slightly fading at the rim.

Opulent nose featuring ripe blackberry and plum, smoked meat, cola, dill and vanilla.

Truly exceptional balance with round tannins showing just a hint of astringency, savoury acidity and plush texture.

Flavours of dark chocolate, black cherry, cherry blaster candy and worn leather.

Long finish.

At peak, drink to 2023.

Leaf Day - Pours lemon in colour into the glass. Nose is white peach, pear, sweet herbs and the tiniest touch of honey. On the palate it has full weight from the fruit (no oak) and rich flavours of peach, apple, sweet herbs and a touch of lime. Rich and viscous on the palate there is terrific acidity to this wine keeping it from being too heavy. The (already) long finish showcases apple, pear and lime zest and juice. It’s really tasty and I just wish Blasted Church had put some under cork because I’d love to see where this goes in 8 or so years. Extremely well done and kudos to Blasted Church.

Beautiful wine. Crisp, fresh with a bright acidity. Perfect for seafood and oysters. Paired with linguine with tuna, capers and lemon and was perfect.

This was an interesting wine. For those that don't know usually Petite Verdot is used exclusively for blending with a small percentage going into a Traditional Bordeaux Blend. This is 100% Petite Verdot, and the first of that percentage that I have tried.

The Nose is not in your face (which I don't mind either way) - I get some red fruits and a cellar dank smell. There is nothing pretty (or bad) about the nose.

A Licorice and Anise note with Red Berries follows on the Palate with a sip and swish. The same as on the Nose but way more pronounced with delicious mouthfeel and acidity. The wine is very well balanced and makes you want more. The finish is substantial and the perfectly balanced acidity carries it through.

I tasted this wine with my food (Jerk Chicken Breast) and without. This wine loves meat and spice and will stand up to them. It is elegant enough to sip on its own but it is made for meat and lunch/dinner.

This is worth the money, which is more than I can say for most Blasted Church Wines or most South Okanagan Wines for that matter. If you can buy it, do so. Recommended. I will buy more. These guys are in my Backyard.

92. Smells great. Taste: blackberry, cherry, strawberry, chocolate, leather. Texture is smooth and light, with just a bit of astringency. Very good. A drink now wine. Good the next day. Pretty decent the third day too

88 Oct 2021 👃 purple plums, ripe cherry, a little rubber, garrigue. 👅 Cola, vanilla, black cherry, earthy. Smooth. Astringency is gone. I think the acidity faded a bit which makes it seem more sweet.

92 Jul 2022 👃 garrigue, black cherry, perfumes. 👅 PnP slightly mouth watering acidity, stems, cherry fruit underpins it all from the back row, nutmeg, cinnamon, kind of lightweight. Very sippable. I think this is like a good southern Rhone red but much more acidic, which is better IMO, though you get better value in southern Rhone. On day 2, lost just a tiny bit of acidity, but also the earthiness, allowing more fruit to come out. Still very good.

2017 Blasted Church Syrah

7/7/2021 - MS86 Likes this wine: 92 points

Factoring in price, Blasted Church may be the best winery in Canada. This is a delicious Syrah blend just begging to be drunk young.

The Rousanne in the blend adds a welcoming floral note to the otherwise powerful black plum, blackberry, baking spice and bacon fat.

Approachable and yet full on the palate with pronounced acidity, fine tannins and well-integrated alcohol.

Flavours follow the nose deep into rich black fruit territory with some vanilla and black pepper.

Excellent length.

Drink to 2024

Syrah blended with fermented Viognier? I must have some...

On the nose you get warm, baked plums (you know the joy, right) black pepper and the aroma of fine cured meats. I simply could not stop smelling this...
Full-body wine here with tannins so lively, they could wake the dead. I will cellar the rest for 2020...easy.
The palate? Well, you taste the ripe plums, toasted cedar, salami and a hint of mocha. This wine will deliver in 4 years something fierce.

Surprised by the mediocre reviews, though perhaps this has improved with time in bottle. Expressive and attractive aromas of tobacco, menthol, leather and rich black cherry. Mellow tannins and pronounced, persistent acidity. Flavours add some bitter dark chocolate. Excellent length. Drink now.

A really great little winery from the Okanagan. Classic Bordeaux blend few in BC can do. Soft aroma, very dark purple color. Intense first taste, full bodied and rich - dark chocolate, raspberries. Finish is almost classic barnyard, oaky, but not quite. But still incredible value.

The bouquet is filled with guava, melon, banana, gooseberry, sweet oak and hints of grapefruit. This is a wild ride, so far.

The palate is superb as the fruit continues to develop along with vanilla oak and caramel. The finish is lemony and carries with it a sufficient level of spice. Ok...I am impressed with this one.
