The wine was deep gold in colour with a nose of oranges, pineapple and some caramel. In the glass were these same flavours and add some peaches and honey as well. This wine was for me a perfect middle ground of a dry and a sweet white wine and the finish was incredibly long. I haven't given a wine a perfect score in a number of year but this one merits it. Stunning! |

Double decanted at European cellar temperature, tasted a bit right away in a smaller Cabernet glass. I reserved half of the bottle under vacuum seal. Shows a complex bouquet immediately after opening: oak, toasted almond, and yuzu/calamansi citrus. Focused right from the start. There's a little heat from the alcohol at first but it blows off quickly. Clearly this wine needs time to open up, though my notes are already quite different from a year ago. Immediate flavors of lemon candy and apricot plus a mid-palate creamy texture that reminds me of guava. Butterscotch aromas linger in the empty glass. This wine shows immense promise when you first open it. I need to be patient with it. Once I let this wine decant for 45 minutes, I noticed some wild additions to everything I already mentioned: a fleeting maple syrup aroma and a honeycomb flavor/texture. This wine has several layers happening in concert, it's hard to capture it all. The saline/briny flavors appear after about 75 minutes. After 2 hours, this wine is soaring. I am blown away. I can't really imagine a better expression of Chardonnay. |

Perfume roared out of the glass Completely filled the palate with every fruit imaginable (except lychee), enough minerality to satisfy even my Chablisienne biases. 4 hours after opening it was still perfect, even better perhaps at that that time point to the 04 Harlan we were tasting simultaneously, and I gave that 100. Full bodied and silky with an exceptionally long finish. When I finished drinking it I kept the glass so I could keep smelling it. I haven't had enough CA chards to say this is a perfect chard (hence the 99) but I can't imagine a better wine. |

Lemon, vanilla, butterscotch, caramel and some floral notes leap from the glass. The wine is thick, unctuous and massive but the acidity keeps it lively. Long, mouthcoating finish. I have sometimes appreciated Kongsgaard whites more than I enjoyed them, but this was utterly profound. Possibly the best white wine I’ve ever tasted. 99-100. |
