Decanted for 90 minutes. Sommelier says this is the best shiraz he's had. Deep almost black color, dark cherry, fig, incredible balance. This was the favorite wine of the evening. Served with lamb and venison. Flight included this and 2005 Dead Arm. The Dead Arm was great... this was sensational.

Cork barely coloured at tip and wine young and vibrant still with years ahead. Acid, tannins & fruit smooth and harmonious with a lovely long final palate.

This continues to be a model example of an extraordinary Shiraz! It has amazing dark berry fruit flavor and a finish that seems to go on forever. I have 22 bottles remaining, and it will be a very sad day when they are all gone!

Stupendous Barossa Shiraz. Well stored can still go many more years. Yet drinking very well now. Concentrated, inky, vanilla, blackberry, cherry and hints of rose petal.

Chesapeake Wood Duck Inn Weekend. No formal notes. Decanted for about 30 minutes. Served with a too-die-for duck breast, lentils, and spring vegetables with a Port au Jus (best duck ever!). Came after a Autard '07 CdP Cote Ronde. I guess wine can get better than this, and if so, I'm really looking forward to having some! This was spectacular. Last bottle about three years ago was fruity and muscular, and balanced. This was chocolate, espresso, satin, and length. Whereas the CdP went very well with the duck and Port au Jus, this melded with them into an almost spiritual experience (well, OK, we were a couple bottles into the evening). All six of us loved this, and I could hear Jeffery sigh contentedly from the kitchen as well. Grand stuff, and I look forward to seeing where how the other two bottles develop with even more time.

Outstanding wine in the right place at 16 years, dark ruby/garnet with a slight orange rim, red fruit on a very pleasant nose, in the mouth deep sweetish raspberry, nice acid for balance a soft lush feel to a medium to long finish, like a lot. Well worth the wait.

This continues to be an amazing wine! Wonderful dark berry, with a bit of vanilla, and a slight hint of oak. It was great as a "pop and pour", but it even became better after about 30 minutes of breathing time. In my opinion, Shiraz does not get any better than this.

Each time I have this wine I am reminded of its amazing structure and finish. It has smoked wood and coffee on the nose, with an initial taste of very distinct dark berries. The finish is very long. It is one of those special wines where you can still remember the flavors and feel of it the next day. I am thrilled to still have 25 bottles remaining in my cellar. I have been buying this one when ever and where ever I can find it!

Really drinking well now. Decanted for an hour. Extremely dense and smooth. Mocha, vanilla, blackberries and a little earthiness. A stupendous full bodied Barossa Shiraz.

It i upsetting to think this is this last bottle. So gorgeous. Maybe at its peak... but it did continue to get better, Soft blueberry and boysenberry. Delicate tannins. Rose petal and and a hint of eucalyptus on the nose.

I opened the bottle and let it breathe for one hour. Nice ruby color with minimal bricking. Nose is great with plums, blackberries, pout poured, lavender. Zippy acidity, medium/chalky tannins, lots of black fruits - ripe plums, blackberries - dried flowers and coffee grounds then come out to give this depth and complexity. The ending is long, with oak, white pepper, and lingering black fruits flavors. This is stunning, in a great spot now and probably at peak, although there is no rush and it will perhaps even further improve in the next 3-4 years.
This wine had everything I love about Barossa - the power, the fruit, the balanced elegance that to me only Syrah and Grenache can convey. So very happy to have 5 bottles more.

Paired the COMMAND against Mitolo G.A.M. 2004 and the Elderton blew it away. We're big fans of Mitolo, so it was a surprise to find a shiraz with so much more depth, complexity and mouthfeel. What a wine!

This is my favorite among all Shiraz options! It has a wonderful nose of cherry and vanilla, and these notes flow though to the taste. Some may find it a little soft and mellow, but I think it is amazing. My only regret is that I now only have four bottles of the 2005 vintage remaining.

Meat and oak on the nose.
The wine has been in Oak for 32 months and a year in bottle before release.
So if my maths are correct it was released around 2011-2012 hardly would a wine like this last only 3 years from release.
Maybe someone is getting it mixed up with French Rhone or maybe just have not the mature taste buds required for Aussie reds ?
Full bodied but lighter in colour and taste Than the 2009 Meshac from Grant Burge that I reviewed.
The oak certainly is there in spades, on the tongue, a very silky tannin with slight astringency at the front of the tongue.
The finish is lingering with fruit, no alcohol over taste ,no out of balance characters, that oak is ever present but not in a bad way.
A finely attuned wine , gives me the impression that another 10 years will see this done but at the moment it is still developing into a classic.

I will taste again in September 2018 or there abouts.

retail $120.00AU

2 December 2018.
The oak has softened and now there is very rich fruit coming through a broad, rich fruit.
On the nose less alcohol , the tongue softer ,light tannin and grip, still alive but intense deepening of the fruit has occurred.

This has to be at it's peak and has improved since my first tasting and gets an extra point.
just a beautiful deep rich wine of immense quality from a low yielding year.
$95.00AU
