  • Tasted this at the 2006 Australian Shiraz Barossa Valley vs McLaren Vale tasting at Extra Space Boon Keng last night. This wine was pitted against the 2006 Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival of Love.

As compared to the 2005 Command, the 2006 is more refined and elegant in style. Still, its energy overpowers the Carnival of Love and its fruits stood above all the other wines of the evening.

    A highly enjoyable wine.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep purple color, with legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of ripe black fruit of blackcurrant, bilberry and blackberry, pungent spice of pepper and liquorice, oak notes of vanilla and cedar, kernel notes of chocolate, sweet spice of cloves, mineral notes of earth. The wine is still youthful.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and silky texture, with medium (+) alcohol and a full body, it has medium intensity flavors of ripe black fruit of blackcurrant, blackberry and bilberry, oak notes of coconut, pungent spice of liquorice and pepper, sweet spice of cloves. The wine has a medium finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Australia Shiraz, with the nose particularly impressive, showing a wide range of different aromas of good concentration, the wine is robust and masculine, showing good alcohol and with a high tannin yet ripe and silky. Comparatively the palate is weaker on intensity and finishes with a reasonable length. It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing for another 5-7 years.

  • Much better with decant.
Classic barossa Shiraz, peppery, black fruit, and some tar.
