91 pts

Moderate upon opening and not quite ready then. Poured one glass and had one sip every 15 minutes and the wine evolved very nicely. An hour later, poured another glass full and the nose was very nice then with much more fruit than upon opening. This wine can sustain another 3 to 5 years in the bottle. Drink slowly through the remaining 11 bottles over the next decade...

Quite an intense, fiery little number, with a much bolder, more forceful taste than usual. Behind all the black cherry, leather and blackcurrant there are hints of the usual elegance but they need at least another two years to emerge. Potentially a great wine if the tannins die down and I expect it to firmly put the 00 in its place.

Weekly tasting group RWP #260: 10-20-30 plus euro's (@ RW): In the bouquet dark berries, cherries, some red fruits and chocolate as well. On the palate a juicy wine with dark berries, some bell pepper, beautiful oak, good acidity, slightly sticky tannin and a good length. Will show some more finesse with 3 – 6+ years of ageing.

The tannins are still raw oak, and I am skeptical that they will resolve before the lean fruit disappears. I like this chateau, so am disappointed by this poor showing in a great year.

Smooth, balanced and very well integrated. I am finding that the 2005's are now drinking extremely well for this lower priced Bordeaux wines.

Drinking well now but a couple more years of cellar time and this will be even better. The bouquet of black cherry, red currant, and fresh roses shifts to leather and sous bois with effortless grace. It displays a tannic structure yet it's pliable, with an exciting intensity of flavor, bottle age complexity, and peppery spice on the youthful finish. Classy.

A very classy and juicy style of Medoc. Rusty iron notes and iodine flavors mix with black cherry and cassis, some "mon cherie" flavors, bright acidity, still slightly tannic, vegetal and herbal flavors dominate the finish, tobacco, charcoal and menthol, a hint of bitterness on the finish. Classy bottle of Bordeaux, still young, but enoyable now. - 90 points

my rating may be conservative, but the wine is ever so slightly disappointing: classic bordeaux nose, medium tannic and quite flavourful on the palate. I expected more, considering the very good reputation of this château among bdx winelovers.
2 bottles drank, the later one was a touch oxidized. first bottle decanted 2 hours, some was left in the caraffe for another 2 hours, which prooved to long.
I would no longer wait for this wine, max. 2 years - unless you own a quite cool cellar that doesn't exeed about 15 degrees celsius.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are fast. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant, prune, strawberry jam, plum and cedar. It tastes like red currant, prune, cedar and pine. The body is light/medium. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity.

3rd bottle on 31.07.2018 with friends:
showed much better and refined after 3 hours decanting. my wife still didn‘t like it. no keeper, anyhow. 90 points.

I dont know the exact location of this chateau but it struck me as a very classy and traditional bdx with all of the expected notes. Cool, dark black cherry, with gravel and rust. Dense and young as these 2005 are, I think this bottle had decades left depending on how you like your claret. It had some funk and hay, like a gruaud or sociando, but then I love that in a wine. I will seek out other vintages of this wine.

After a three hour decant: very soft and elegant. Biggest drawback: does not convey very much fruit anymore. Will it get better ? I doubt. Nice, I’ll drink mine in the next three years.

Decanted for 2 hours. Ooh, very nice nose of smooth cassis and plums, with a bit of smokiness. The palate is quite full bodied, with good dark fruit and strong tannins. This feels like it could still go a long way, but very nice now as well!

On the nose you get mostly Cab Sav, with cassis but also hints of green peppers and some green herbs.
On the palate it has more of a sweet Cabernet feeling to it, with pencil, dark berries and hints of vanilla. Rather tough, with tannin that needs time or food.

Decanted and with a funky bottle stink, this faded away with a little air and time. Improving in the glass with underlying cassis and bold minerality. The acidity and tannins expected from 2005, ready but with time in hand. 90+

Decanted, served blind, had to guess what it was. It was opaque, clearly very young, highly extracted, very ripe/over ripe with some unpleasant burnt notes. It had a lot of power, but quite an abrupt finish with harsh crash and burn tannins. I guessed USA Syrah, but was way off; when told France I thought southern Rhône or rural southern France. When told Bordeaux I guessed rightbank. Wrong again. Finally I suggested 2005 Cru Bourgeois, and I was correct. It was Chasse Spleen. I have had some very good wines from this property but this was frankly a shocker. It was not flawed or badly stored. Just unpleasant. We both drank half a glass only.

Cabernet S 73 %, Merlot 20 %, Petit Verdot 7 %.
