2017 1000 Stories Zinfandel Bourbon Barrel AgedCalifornia more |
6/29/2020 - fingers wrote: 86 pointsVery dark ruby color, clear and sound with no sediment. Light intensity nose of cherry reduction sauce with a hint of mellow oak and spices. Very light tannins and low to medium acidity. It has a rich and full body with good Zin flavor character while the finish hangs on for quite awhile, and it is there I find evidence of the whiskey barrel. The longer into the finish, the more it tastes like Tin Cup.... which I happen to like |

12/22/2015 - fingers Likes this wine: 93 pointsPoured off a glass and then slow-o'd for a night. Very dark ruby, almost 100% opaque with clear and quick legs. Minor sediment. The bouquet is currant and dark berry of great depth, bright florals and Asian spices, very little oak influence. Mouthfeel is particularly nice with a suave texture and very soft tannins. The fruit is on the IPOB side of the spectrum and those looking for a big bomb need to move along. Refined and classy as opposed to in-your-face, with the persistent and complex finish adding character to what would otherwise be just a good wine. Worth the $? Tough to say. But you don't need to look hard for the quality here, just pay attention and let it speak to you. There's a lot to contemplate with this, if contemplation is your thing ;) I wouldn't be surprised if this shows even better in 2 years. 5+13+17+8= 93 |

5/22/2018 - fingers wrote: 93 pointsFollowed over two nights open and preferred it the more it gained air. Almost fully opaque ruby to the edge with an average amount of fine sediment. Blackberries and licorice with minor wood in the bouquet. Pretty sure I’m catching a small dash of Merlot adding to the mix. Big, flavorful palate with excellent texture and feel, but there’s no escaping the high alcohol effect. It also could use another good 3-5 years to really come into its own. It’s a good to great wine, but perhaps out of my wheelhouse these days. 5+12+17+9= 93 |

1/17/2007 - fingers wrote: 90 pointsWhat a deal! Big nose of roses and blueberry. Cedar, strawberry, plum and a good amount of vanilla working the palette. Quite good and very enjoyable. Can't get over the bargain even compared to $40-60$ Syrah's I've tried recently. |

11/2/2018 - fingers Does not like this wine: 79 pointsNot as enjoyable as my first one, but part of a cellar-thinning exercise anyway. Some heavy sediment, light ruby color with slow legs. Thin, watery, uninteresting, and lacking in bouquet for my senses. Borderline plonk is what keeps entering my mind, though having said that, I did drink the whole bottle. Just so you know how I roll. 4+8+12+5= 79 |

5/6/2018 - fingers wrote: 85 pointsLight hazy ruby color with a wide rim and a good amount of both chunky and fine sediment. Bright cherry and spice, medium-intensity nose. Light to medium body, medium/high acidity, and light tannins with moderate complexity in the flavors and medium-long persistence. Fully serviceable if you like “skinny” Pinots, and it offers the benefit of pairing with just about anything, including spicy foods. 4+10+15+6= 85 |

2013 Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valleymore |
7/29/2020 - fingers Likes this wine: 93 pointsA very dark ruby pitch, saturated almost fully to the rim and a good amount of chunky sediment. Profound aroma of blackberries, lavender, pipe tobacco, vanilla meringue, and complex perfumes. The palate seems to be just entering maturity, as the tannins still grab a bit more attention than where the balance will eventually land (in my humble prognostication). This should offer several more years of pleasure. |

6/8/2021 - fingers Likes this wine: 93 pointsShowing better than a year ago and it didn’t take as long to get going. Delicious, trademark CV fruit with some confident oak and gentle tannins. On the leading edge of its apex, imho. 5+12+17+9= 93 |

3/29/2013 - fingers wrote: 89 pointsSlow-O'd overnight. Color is dark ruby, 90% opaque with quick, clear legs. No sediment. Modest perfume and big blue fruit up front on the nose, followed by small amounts of tobacco, pain grille, and dry herbs. Medium-full body, firm acidity, young and grippy tannins. Long, dry finish with some smoke and iron shavings among the finer details. Another year or seven and this should become quite interesting. A little non-descript and singular at the moment. 5+11+15+8 = 89, with future upside |

2019 Accornero Barbera del Monferrato Giulinmore |
12/10/2023 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsA pretty ruby-violet color, about 70% saturated with a clear body and no sediment. Notes after only two hours of air and I can tell that really isn't enough for this to open up fully. Bouquet is very pretty, shy of medium intensity and features roses and light perfume. A definite rustic nature to the tannins along with acidity that is just as confident. Kills it with traditional pizza pie. I know it will probably be awesome tomorrow, but I doubt that I can protect it from consumption that long. I plan to hold my remaining two for a few more years before retrying. |

11/28/2020 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsFollowed over 8 hours. It’s been awhile since I’ve had an Albariño and judging from this bottle, I am woefully overdue. This was a joy to sip all afternoon with everything from scallops to leftover turkey and fixins’ to a burger and fries. A real jack-of-all-trades as far as cuisine and I’m also loving it all on its own. All the crisp yellow fruits you can think of with a little bit of banana and tropical notes that diminish with air time. It may forego some oak-added complexity for the benefit of being so lively and fun, but I find no fault with this overall and can’t feel like this is anything but an excellent white wine. The depth of flavor is there, a good dose of minerals, acidity, texture, and bouquet. |

2/10/2023 - fingers wrote: 85 pointsLight to medium straw/gold color with a clear body. Medium intensity nose offers pineapple, ocean spray, lemon peel, and a little wax. Light to medium body and light intensity flavors. Light to medium acidity and a short finish. Refreshing, but really lacking in anything distinctive. 5+10+14+6= 85 |

2/13/2024 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsLight green straw color with a bright shine and no particulates. Generous bouquet of kiwi, melon, green apple, and grenadilla that carry on the palate with an excellent frame of limestone and acidity. A very nice step up from typcial $11-$20 Albarino. |

3/10/2024 - fingers Likes this wine: NRI really enjoyed the 2019 version of this, along with this producer's Mar de Vinas. The 2021 Nessa did not do much for me, but I think this 2022 SE is the best of the four. Versatile with many food pairings, but I would avoid hotter spices. Sea bass - oh yeah. |

1/22/2022 - fingers wrote: 87 pointsNot the most exciting or luscious of Albarino's as far as the bouquet, but it has a very pleasant balance and minerally aspect on the palate, along with undetectable alcohol that makes it terribly easy to drink. Refreshing and versatile. A good house white. |

10/6/2022 - fingers Likes this wine: 91 pointsA better impression after 10 months of patience. The mineral steelyness is even more prominent and the fruit is more expressive and just plain tasty. There's a slight sweetness that perfectly lends itself to spicier fare and it has a real sense of quality that wasn't so apparent as a baby. 5+11+17+8= 91 |

3/21/2018 - fingers Likes this wine: 92 pointsNotes after an hour in the glass. Light to medium gold with a clear shine. Light aroma, but the palate is rich and sustained.. quite delicious, with a lemon/grapefruit/mandarin front end, and tropical tree fruits commingling in the back and through the long finish. As Oldwines mentioned, this is enjoyable with or without food and I think it could be even sexier in another year or so. 5+11+17+9= 92 |

12/19/2011 - fingers wrote: 92 pointsGave about an hour to aerate before tasting and followed for 2 days, tasted best at about 50deg. Very light gold color and heavier than average legs. Nose is a medium intensity and features lots of diacetyl with a bit of dirty laundry for character. Big palate but not even close to overdone. I get a sense of really nice grape material here and judicious use of the barrel. I like that the very long finish is not driven by just the oak and there's very nice balance overall. This was shining brightest after several hours of air when the body smoothed into near perfection. At the $35 level, this is a strong recommend and a fine example of Sonoma Chardonnay 5+10+18+8 = 92 |

1/4/2016 - fingers wrote: 88 pointsNotes after a 4 hour slow-O. Light to medium straw color and slightly dull. Soft nose of citrus and tropical fruits and a light kiss of oak. Palate has good weight and umami factor along with good acidic tension to keep it alive, but I feel a bit shortchanged on the flavors so I wonder if I may have preferred this in an earlier state. Still very good, and the quality is obvious through a clean, mineral-driven finish. 4+11+16+7 = 88 |
