Void of any personality or complexity but was a nicely made quaffer. Similar in style to California. 86

Yet to be Named Wine Club Meeting #7 (Mark and Erica's): Prevalent notes of honey, hazelnut and maple. Would almost swear there was a bit of botrytis. Reminded me of a muscat. Very dessert wine in character but lighter in body. Very interesting.

After 48 hours this turned into a solid, most enjoyable wine. Blackberries and ash. Hugh improvement from when first opened.

Popped this based on the good reviews from others, and well worth it. Drinking very nicely despite still seemingly young but obviously past closing down. Fresh with just the faintest hint of secondary notes starting to unfold. With tannin well mellowed and oak integration this is hard to resist at the moment. Almost aristocratic wine and fantastic work by Stephen. I expect this to be a 93-94 in 3 years. At the moment a 92, very seductive.

No decant. Quite modern in style, sexy and appealing. Good structure and weight that will serve it well in the cellar although with air this was performing pretty well. Hints of cedar wood and some exotic spices. 90

Yet to be Named Wine Club Meeting #3 (Laszlo and Ida's): Double decanted and re-corked for 30 hours. Dark midnight purple in color (Syrah). Plush, dense black fruit with notes of meat and garrigue, firm oak presence. Med-Full body. Palate of black and blue fruit, finishes with pepper, while the fruit disappears in a glycerin envelope.

Good legs, deep red in color. Overall a reticent nose. Damp driftwood, baker's chocolate, spice and cassis. Dense. Similar palate with pronounced tart cherries and dusty mocha and a dense core of dark fruit. Med-Full bodied with good balance, although there were complaints of alcohol burn, which I can see being a problem for some. Should perform well with food. Overall a little monolithic but enjoyable. Good for 5 years +.

Had with Giorgio for his 82 birthday. Nice wine, a surprising strong acid steak that needed food to settle it down. Apples. Expected a little more considering the price.

My first 2009 Rhone. Impressive, great QPR. Obviously young and aggressive but has everything it needs to make for a great Vacq. Very solid core that acts as great framework, perfect fruit ripeness. Seems to have good internal balance at this stage. Must get more. 91+

Celery, candy and clove on the nose. Completely unpalatable in the mouth. Soupy, and shockingly unbalanced. Can't rate this.

An old world rustic bit of juice. Lots of stone and mineral on the nose, quite an attack in the mouth and the finish is full of activity with a little bitterness that is just fantastic. Unrefined and a little rowdy. Pull this out for informal good times. 89-90

Open 24 hours. Deep, brilliantly coloured healthy looking specimen. Nose of fruit resin, spice and earth. Youthful expression and exuberance yet not overtly revealing everything. Well made with a focus on fruit rather than oak. Refreshing with good balance, fine grained tannin and a bit of tang on the finish. Get more.

You could see straight through this when pouring which made me nervous but my purchase was confirmed with a sniff. I would like to believe I could blindly pick this as Cdn. We will never make a massive wine but for a med/light bodied wine we do it well. Just enough oak and a true expression of the grape - dare I say a terroir? Honest, and should gather a fan base on that merit alone.
