Opened at 0900 for Thanksgiving. Purchased on release. PnP. A medium+ ruby robe with shades of purple extending out to thinning but still colored edges. Long languid legs indicative of the high glycerol and ethanol in the 2005 vintage. The nose beckons with plum, tobacco, forest floor, pencil, and a hint of smoke. Meaty aged blue-black plum, pouch tobacco, and just a touch oxidized. Still some tannins hanging around on the finish.
Will update this note after seeing how it progresses and behaves with our turkey Thanksgiving dinner.

Prior bottle was 2 and a quarter years ago and this wine has actually held up quite well, very much in line with my expectations. Black cherry, blackberry, mineral and lead pencil on the nose. Medium bodied with very pretty and open black cherry upfront. Retains that nice little burst of brighter blackberry which contributes contrast. Mid-body is almost all black cherry with just a touch of black raspberry towards the back as well as lightly tart black cherry. Fine grained and fully integrated tannins along with a touch of acidity provide structure and finishes with minerals and light spices. Overall, the fruit showed quite well and the wine shows good balance, but again perhaps not the depth or power of my first bottle. I don't see any room for future positive evolution and while it should continue to hold up this is a wine to be drunk in the near term to fully enjoy its current state.

At private lunch, Hamilton. This wine remains fresh and robust with a nose of garnet plums, blackcurrants and touches of cedar and dark chocolate. The palate has plenty of character and depth with a rich roundness leading into some fine balancing tannins. There some nice grip and persistence to finish a wine that sits right in the zone of accessible right bank Bordeaux.

Pleasant surprise from the far reaches of the cellar. Musty cassis, blackberry, coffee, and even some bay on the nose. Herbal notes intensified with air. Warmed black cherry in the mouth with more green herbs and solid minerality. Good acidity to keep things lively. Won't win any awards for complexity but a solid drink seemingly at peak.

Passed its best.
Almost peardrop like.
Does not improve with decanting either.
