Always a treat to drink Egon Müller though this bottle is a bit disappointing for the producer - it's very pretty, a clean and very fresh Riesling with little botrytis and plenty of ripe citrus and stone fruit, but doesn't have the intensity or depth that I would expect from Müller's Auslese. The signature green/minty elements I'd expect from Scharzhofberger are very muted and barely apparent at first - some of that does emerge with air, but it's a very restrained wine that right now doesn't show the aromatic depth or complexity I'd expect from Müller's Scharzhofberger.

#08-15, 8% abv. At least right now, this seems like it has the same lightness as the problematic 1990 -- it's suffering from a bit of reverse Prädikat creep. This is more like an opulent spätlese than an auslese. The nose is gentle and shows a bit of green apple and some other herbs. There is Saar minerality here but it is relatively subdued. The palate too is fairly gentle and balanced; and on the back end, this was initially kind of muted and dumb, but then with lots of oxygen, seemed to pick up the expected Saar rawness and became quite chewy. I think this won't ever end up as a great edition of this wine, but it's pretty delicious now and especially with a generous amount of air.

Vacation wines; 7/29/2019-8/3/2019 (South Tirol): Popped and poured, drunk within an hour. AP#07 Wonderful complex and developing nose with ripe apricot, exotic fruit, herbs and slate. I love this perfume. On the palate the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity! Everything is in perfect harmony. The wine has a wonderful density and complexity, without ever being cloying or sticky. Great tension and length. Long, lingering and fruity finish. So joyful to drink at the moment, but with a potential of further improvement for the next two decades! 94-95+

Precise and instant fresh in the start and the wine grows into a pretty full-bodied and complex wine with this surprisingly fresh mouthfeel that really makes you smile. Fresh yellow fruits, stone fruit peel, pepper, forest spices and pretty caramel. Long and really pretty acidic yet sweet-looking finish in perfect harmony. Almost with a touch of lemon meringue feeling. Top wine that together with spicy food is nirvana. 96 points.

Initially, the wine is stubborn as a small child. With time in the glass, the wine offers some aromas and shows an infinite depth and clarifies that it will happen a lot in the future. Tight nectar, light wax, white flower and almost with a little pepper tones aroma-like.

Pretty full-bodied wine with wide and yet wonderfully balanced mouthfeel. Juicy yellow honey melon, sweet-bodied stone fruit and pretty salinity. This grows out and becomes linear all the way through and never ends. Perfect balance between sweetness and acidity already. Hit a real nerve. Really long with fresh and acidic finish that really shines. Fantastic wine that will only open up even more over the years. 95 points. (95-97 points)

Popped and poured. Egon.Müller.Scharzhof.Auslese.great.vintage, do I need to write more? F.ck is that good! Fantastic, youthful and intense nose. I could smell that forever! Exotic fruit, mineral notes, herbs. Deep, complex and youthful.
On the palate already amazing: How can you produce a wine that is on the on hand light as a feather, dancing on your tongue and on the other hand hits you with a velvet hammer?! Enormous tension and concentration without being chubby or broad. Perfect mix of sweetness and acidity. Lots of ripe exotic fruit (passion fruit), wonderful mineral core, beautiful texture and an incredible length. This wine has potential for the next three decades! 96-97++

Holy. Fucking. Shit. The nose is like the platonic form of tangerine. It's also spicy, musky, floral - a true panoply of flavors. On the palate this enters thick with more musky melon. The palate enters light and just flies away. Holy shit. The lime takes off like a rocket and builds a crystalline palace. So light yet so flavorful. They should have sent a poet. 19/20.

Great style here. This is sweet, sepherical in palate, with deep core of concentrated fruit. Ripe apricots. It's lingers on mouth. Compared to 2005, this is just slightly less wieldy and detailed. But will make old bones beautifully. Perhaps apogee around 2025-30?

Superlative. Great drive, balance, with deep seam of minerality. Quite concentrated yellow fruit still. It's drinkable now but this will go for decades I think. A much more balanced warmer year than 2007 say when it was a touch too exotic sweet for my palate.

Exquisite harmonious nose displaying perfectly ripe yellow peach, apricot tart, mango, honey, vanilla, crème brulee, cinnamon and limestone. Beautifully balanced palate, very finely layered peach, oily yet weightless, exceptional precision and detail, perfect amount of acidity, strong mineral, and a seamless long sweet peach driven finish with a hint of honey and sweet spices at the end. Just like great D’Yquems, Egon Muller wines magically combine intensity, balance and weightlessness. For a few people, WOTN.

The wine is clear, bad lights, youthfull

Nose is clean, medium+ intense aromas of apricot, nectar, peaches, honey, very tight, needs time, youthful.

Palate is sweet, high acidity, low alcohol, gigh flavour intensity, body and high dry-extract with aromas of tropical fruit, nectar, honey, floral notes, citrus, apples, slate, epic long finish

Exceptional balance, very long finish with high intense acidity, concentration is like a punch in the mouth, still too young to have the deep complexity, but is very tightly knit at this point. Keep for at least 10 years before trying again, outstanding quality with a enormous potential, 95+p

Lifted and contemplative aromatics of honey, apricot, nectarine, and mild petrol. Viscous on the palate with elegant, honeyed fruit and good supporting freshness. It's a soft beauty with a solid core, though most of the fireworks are found on the nose. Always a treat to try Egon Muller.

What a wine. It’s completely in harmony, no components are overpowering the others. The bouquet takes some time to fully open up and than convinces with peaches, mangoes and other tropical fruits. The palate is surprisingly balanced with a great tension between sweetness and fresh acidity. I would expect this wine could easily be enjoyable in 30-40 years,
there is so much stuffing and structure it will outlive most of the current connoisseurs.

Dinner (Restaurant Saarburger Hof, Saarburg): Straight out of the Scharzhof cellar. Unbelievably young, medium yellow-golden color. Fantastic, medium+ intense and developing nose with such a fine and elegant nose that only the best Riesling from the Saar can produce. A perfume which is not superficial, almost shy, but very complex and multi layered. On the palate great elegance and balance. Sweetness has blended in, acidity is ripe and perfectly integrated. Everything is at its right place and you must restrain your self not to drink the whole bottle in one big gulp. Long and fine finish. This bottle had decades of further development ahead! 96+
