This is hardcore! At first too reductive, with natural wine-making animality and barnyard aromas, rustic black fruits, brown farine and cheese-shop notes. It needs lots and lots of air - like 24h in the opened bottle. Much better on the second day. Soaring limestone acidity (7,7 grams!!), lean body, low alcohol (11,7%) and stony tannins verging on the unripe. Paired with salami and comté, it is quite an exciting drink, but certainly not for beginners. Way out of the mainstream, no-compromise wine, but very Kraski, and memorable for that.

Needs a proper decant, but expresses great purity and masses of stony minerality, without any signs of active winemaking. Only 12% abv, but balanced in its own hard-core way. Has definitely improved with a few years of cellaring. Excellent food wine.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is light/medium. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Deep purple to ruby colored, moderate legs. Berries, jam, sourish wild berries notes, aroma typical for the variety. Slightly sweet flavor, jam, plums, quite what expected from the aroma with much alcohol felt, giving the full body feel. Tingling and sharp on palate with long, but simple sweet sugary and alcohol finish. "Only" 13.4% ABV to note, feels like much more. But well, good enough for its low price.

Ruby with a garnet rim. Nicely evolved showing off dried black fruit, prune along with lots of sweet spice notes. Medium-weight with sweet, ripe fruit and now mellowed tannins.

Fine Wines SG - Bordeaux vs China BYO Dinner (Praelum Wine Bistro): Medium ruby, some variation, thick legs, and a lot of colour extraction. Aromas of red cherry and raspberry, moss, twigs, and green bell peppers. Fairly high tannins and alcohol. Red cherry, raspberry, grassy flavours. Finished fairly short

Check in on the Wine China leaderboard, tasted blind (Singapore): Brownish color. Lot of oak here in the nose with some dark fruit. On the palate with is alcoholic with dry tannins on the finish. Not really in balance. Avoid.

Very typical of this vintage. Do not, I repeat, do not PNP. Extremely tight upon opening..but after a little air developed into a very respectable weekday cab. I'll definitely let my next few bottles breathe. I'm just ecstatic that this 2011 isn't a bust.

Menu decanted. Lots of oak and some red fruit on the nose. Palate is fruit forward and somewhat one-dimensional. Smooth medium finish.

Ultra smooth. Lovely Robert Rex creation. Certainly will develop further with time in the cellar. Solid fruit, excellent balance and dense chewy mouth feel. A very nice offering from Deerfield's new label.

Having heard Robert Rex discuss this wine I have several in my cellar. This is trick or treat night in my area. It's about 55 out. I open a bottle and sat outside with the candy... yes a little chocolate here and there was great with the wine. Smooth, well balanced Cab. The texture is soft with a great taste. Give it a try - it will not disappoint.

For the most part I get green pepper dominating. Not bad, exactly, but I'd like a bit more fruit.

Dark reddish. This is just table wine. A little residual spritz which needs to blow off. Decent blackcurrant fruit. Simple. Bit clumsy with acids, and rustic. Not very good, but acceptable. Overpriced.

2019 001 Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon Ecotone Vineyard

Napa Valley more

2/4/2024 - #1Winelover Likes this wine: 95 points

Had a great lunch with Jack Bittner and agelvis at Cook (great local restaurant in Napa).

Very well built from the former Abreu Thorevilos site (not to be confused with Abreu's new Thorevilos site.) Now called Ecotone. Ecotone is in no man's land; above St. Helena but not in the Howell Mountain AVA. Jack sells fruit to some of the higher end producers (Kinsman Eades, Vice Versa, etc), and make his own juice, 001.

This is a big wine and has a very long life ahead. It was tight at lunch even though Jack double decanted it for hours. It got better in the glass and my final sips were the best. Dark red and black in the glass, still a little primary and built like a brick s**t house. Slight mineral notes, bakers chocolate, nice acidity with a long finish. Stylistically similar to Macdonald which makes sense since they share the same winemaker Graeme Macdonald

My score is a placeholder as this is very well built and will improve with time. Should end up being 97"ish" but right now, it was drinking 95 points.
