So powerful, but not obnoxious the way some of the big Aussie Shiraz can be. Saw the current auction price on this wine, and I'm not sure it is THAT good. |

10/24/2007 - JimN wrote: 87 pointsBeautiful amber color, floral on the nose with some spice notes. Nothing spectacular on the palate, but it's past its prime. All in all, a really solid medium-bodied wine at a great price. |

1/12/2013 - JimN wrote: 92 pointsHave had these for some time and this wine is in a great place. Beautiful fruit, nice acidity, tannins are mostly resolved but still providing good structure throughout the night. Probably in the prime drinking window, but lots of years ahead. Quick decant for sediment and then back into the bottle to be consumed two hours later. |

8/6/2014 - JimN Likes this wine: 92 pointsCould there possibly be a better bottle of wine at $18 for a split? Dark brown, extremely viscous, clinging to the glass with each swirl. Burnt caramel, hint of chocolate, almost like maple syrup. Poured it over vanilla ice cream--wow! |

7/31/2008 - JimN wrote: 89 pointsI tend to shy away from burgundy because it is so expensive, but I took a chance on this offering from Wine Express. I like this better than most of the U.S. pinot noir in this price range. The nose is nothing special, although it has a pleasant blend of cherries and raspberries. On the tongue it is feminine and soft, lacking pizzazz but not necessarily in a bad way. Very enjoyable, but you won't wow your friends. |

1/5/2014 - JimN Likes this wine: 93 pointsLeve note about sums it up. In a great place right now. Amazing how much this wine changes from hour to hour. Needs lots of air. Very little to suggest Bordeaux, which is neither good nor bad. Point is that there is a welcome restraint here even though it leans toward CA. Will drink for many more years, but it may be as good as it will ever be from now over the next four years. |

8/9/2011 - JimN wrote: 92 pointsThis is in a good place right now. Not especially complex, but elegant with lots of fruit on the mid-palate. Loads of sediment, so really needs to stand for a week before serving. Not likely to get much better from here, but still many years ahead. |

8/19/2012 - JimN wrote: 91 pointsOregon Pinot at its best, but I prefer the CAs, so my somewhat lower score probably reflects my personal taste. I still think it needs more time to come together, as it tasted a bit acidic to me. (But no expert, I, on Oregon Pinot!) |

7/29/2014 - JimN wrote: 92 pointsScreaming Eagle Showdown (Yellow Springs Inn): Part of a blind tasting of 1999 US Cabernets. I scored this a bit higher the first time through. Seemed to fade a bit as the evening wore on. Others had it muh higher. Seemed to be the wine with the greatest variation among tasters. Unfortunately, I didn't take formal notes on this one. I thought it was disappointing given the price point. Came in middle of the pack. |

1/13/2013 - JimN Likes this wine: 96 pointsVery odd. Pop and pour last night from a 375 and it was closed and tannic. Poured it back, pumped, opened again tonight after letting it sit for a few hours. Absolutely gorgeous! Lots of ripe fruit left, good balance, and a very long finish with chocolate on the end. RP had it right: Power and elegance. One of the best Cabernets I have had in a very long time. Ready to go from the half bottle, but will hold on for many years. |

5/30/2013 - JimN Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe experience of the four of us was spot on with note from Doctorw on May 3. Would never have guessed a 20-year old wine. Still purple in color, no bricking. Smooth and elegant. Definitely prime time and not likely to be drinking as well five years now. |

So excited to pair it with Wagyu tartare. Poured at the restaurant and badly corked. I guess I missed on opening and the TCA “bloomed” with the exposure to air? This was from a friend’s cellar who purchased on release. Bummer! Hoping for a better outcome next time. |

5/4/2013 - JimN Likes this wine: 95 pointsStunning how good this wine is this early. Three hour decant and poured through a vinturi. Rich fruit, just beginning to develop more complexity, tannins were well integrated after a few hours of air. More elegance than power. Too easy to drink. Have had many different vintages of this wine, and this is the most accessible this early of any I have tasted. |

12/29/2012 - JimN wrote: 92 pointsIn my view, there is not a better Viognier made in North America. Incredibly floral and spicy, clings to the glass, unctuous in the mouth. I think this wine really shows best at room temperature, maybe just a slight chill. It loses its complexity if it is much colder. |

1/4/2009 - JimN wrote: 90 pointsI think it needs more cellar time, but others at the dinner did not agree. I found it a bit hot, but with real potential. Smokey, not bright like many Oregon pinots. Paired well with Portobello Mushroom Soup. |
