This is nice for the price; you taste the Grenache and the fruit; slightly drying finish

May improve a bit more with cellar time - has good fruit left and loads of tannins and acidity

Wonderfully complex on the nose with cooked black fruits, tobacco, liquorice, chocolate, and tobacco. A little bit less intense on the palate and a bit of a short finish. Mostly tertiary and drinking well now. Probably wouldn't keep it much longer.

85% Grenache and 15% Syrah. Color appears very dark (probably because of the Syrah) but the nuances change to light garnet at the rim of glass. Thick and viscous in the glass, and with an ABV of 15% this only makes sense. The nose is powerful and intense with jammy notes of figs and baked plums and green herbs like thyme and rosemary. All the above also shows on the palate and combined with sweet alcohol and a finish almost equal infinity this wine is clearly NOT fooling around. Big, huge and powerful!

A Southern Rhone wine that ages gracefully and comes with a compelling price tag. The wine displays a rosy hue. It has medium legs and light sediment present in the bottle. On the nose, there are aromas of black currant (cassis), minerals, dust, and stoniness. The palate echoes these flavors with pronounced black currant (cassis), stoniness, and mineral notes. The body leans towards medium/full, and it has a leathery texture. It finishes with a medium length and exhibits low acidity.

Complex nose of mid red fruit mixed with spice, flowers, roasted meats. Palate took little more time to open up. Balanced and long, tannins nearly resolved and what is left is sweet and round. Good food wine.

Visible label. Decanted one hour. Poured in Zalto glass at 14°C. Nice golden hue, surprising for a young vintage. Nose of baked apples and rhubarb in jam. Palate noble and mature with compote liccorice and a nice touch of blond tobacco. Very silky texture with its complex core makes it elegant and appealing. Few potential of ageaning, no/few need for decanting. Excellent like that.

Beautiful, concentrated ruby with soft, clear edges. Low viscosity and sporadic legs. Aromas of plum, blackberry, cocoa, and licorice with some earthy forest floor. Palate is gentle on entry with moderate acidity and finely grained tannins. Dark fruit is complimented with roasted cinnamon and clove. Finish is long, tart, and drying. Quite lovely with a meal and on its own. Paired with ratatouille and herb roasted chicken thighs.

2020 Saint Jean du Barroux Ventoux Bois Long

Grenache Noir, Grenache more

7/23/2022 - originalverkorkt Likes this wine: 90 points

This pure Grenache Rouge comes from the Bois Long parcel, located at 300 metres in the Dentelles de Montmirail. The rocks date back to the middle Triassic. The vineyard is surrounded by olive trees, thyme, rosemary and curry plants. The grapes were hand-picked on 11 September 2020, not destemmed and fermented in concrete cuve. This was followed by ageing for eleven months in enamel tanks and for nine months in bottle.

Light transparent garnet red with brightening rim.

The 2020 Bois Long smells of ripe sweet cherries, cassis, raspberry brandy and warm yeast plait. warm yeast plait. The sensuously warm and sweet notes, joined by a little liquorice, are accompanied by a little dried wood and rubbed stone.

On the palate, the Grenache comes across as round and silky, warm and full with a powdery and lining tannin, with cherry, cassis and fromboise spirits, fragrant herbs and warm spices. Despite the richness, Philippe Gimel ensures precision. The wine gains clarity from a fine acid structure and a lively minerality.

7/5/2022 - originalverkorkt Likes this wine: 92 points

Grenache blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc were used by Philippe Gimel for this white Ventoux, which presents itself like a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Just 15 hl/ha were harvested for this wine, whose vines stand quite high on Mont Ventoux. The wine was fermented and matured in stainless steel. In the youth, there is still fruit, then spice. According to Philippe, the wine should easily age for 20 years.

Golden yellow

The 2020 La Montagne should first be decanted. Then it opens with a mixture of warm butter biscuit and fresh as well as dried fruits. This reminds of juice oranges and candied orange peel, of candied ginger and ripe apricots, pears and yellow plums - also as compote. The bouquet is also dominated by acacia blossom, liquorice, aniseed and a hint of plum liqueur.

On the palate, the 2020 La Montagne is juicy, round and silky with a mixture of white and yellow fruit, dried fruit and spices. The cuvée already shows itself immensely balanced between a ripe acidity with a slight grip, a little tannin and a powerful body. Here, too, the wine combines the fruit with a little aniseed and liquorice. It is an excellent, densely woven, warm-hearted food companion to strong dishes.

2019 Saint Jean du Barroux Ventoux Syrah Entrevon

more

7/5/2022 - originalverkorkt Likes this wine: 93 points

This pure Syrah comes from the Entrevon parcel in Malaucène, located at 350 metres on the north side of Mont Ventoux. The rocks date back to the third period of the Miocene with sandy soils. The grapes were hand-picked on 26 September 2019, 90% destemmed and fermented in concrete cuve for 15 days. This was followed by ageing for 18 months in stainless steel and for nine months in bottle. 1,567 bottles were produced.

slightly transparent violet

The 2019 Entrevon has now undergone three years of ageing and evolved into a sensual and picture-perfect wine. The reductive parts present in the early stages have already disappeared. The Syrah opens with notes of blackcurrants including stalks, crunchy plums, blackberries and sour cherries in combination with bresaola, some ink and dry wood. Everything is balanced and ripe, but cool.

On the palate, the 2019 Entrevon comes across as round and supple, sensual and juicy with a fine silky tannin and a ripe warm core that also offers a good amount of extract sweetness. The blend of wild berry fruit, plums and cassis, a few cherries, olive tapenade and dark tobacco is accompanied by a lively minerality that gives the elegant and powerful wine just the right dose of freshness.
