Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind Spanish Wine (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Served this double blind in Spanish tasting. Big fruit but getting slightly muddy, plus a little bretty. Disappointing given the critics' reviews at release.

Tasted blind. Slightly muted nose at first with red fruit, cherries, herbs, and a hint of dark chocolate. Good acidity with tart cherries, berries, and slightly dusty tannins. Nice finish. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

YES. First 20 yr old Tempranillo and yes it is a superior wine; it’s not a bdx but it is a sort of transposition of a bdx into a Spanish context. An interesting and good experience. Recommended. May be the best Spanish wine I have ever had.

Nose of lavender, blackcurrant and liquorice.

Penetrating mouth. Not by its volume or its density, but by its astonishing delicacy for a tempranillo and its finesse. The wine is built with length, with a structure which gradually loosens with aromas of lavender, black fruit and liquorice. The wine is deep and textured at the same time, with a lot of serenity. The acidity is integrated very delicately, it really surprised me compared to the concentration bombs that Ribera often are. Very nice finish on chocolate and fine herbs, more intense than the mouth, which explodes in the throat over great length.

Excellent, I really liked it.

Ya pinta bien con 13 graditos de alcohol, tensión en el descorche y perfecto. El vino estaba muy bien.

Se decide poner una copa pequeña por su posible fragilidad y empieza el espectaculo. Abierto desde el primer momento, intenso y varietal.

Fresco, ligero para venir de donde viene, en Quintanilla de Onesimo se puede hacer estas cosas señores.

Una paleta nitida y castellana, cuero y café, fruta negra licorosa, endrinas, mueble de madera viejo, sarmientos, no se cansa uno de oler. Todo delineado por una elegancia y proporciones griegas.

La boca sigue la misma linea pero muchisimo mejor, terroso, arcilloso, vivo, excitante, fresco, fundido e integrado.
Muy ligero y concentrado como buen castellano.

Alucinante como se pueden hacer estas cosas, o se hacían más bien, gracias a gente como Pedro Cuadrado (apunte del maestro Andrés Conde de La Cigaleña).

50 euros de puro disfrute, nos llevamos la última botella.

Granate cubierto con el ribete algo abierto. Nariz expresiva, con profundidad, fruta roja en sazón, matices especiados, tinta china, un toque de pan tostado y algún matiz floral. En boca la entrada es buena, cuerpo medio, tanino vivo pero dulce y pulido, bien de frescura, esturcutra bastante sólida, suaves amargos, cierta mineralidad, largo y bien perfilado. Una excelente tempranillo.

Cork quality was off the charts and looked like it could've supported this bottle's evolution for decades. Zero seepage. Drank without food. Bought at winery in 2018 and stored optimally since then.

PnP...magnetic medium strength nose of dark fruits with a hint of oak. On the palate, for the first two hours it seemed tight and very structured and only finally loosened a bit after 2 hours. It had medium acidity and body and the flavor had some black cherry peek out towards the end. The fruit spectrum was a bit quiet.

Certainly, decant for 2 hours and maybe four hours. I think this can last another 10 years, but I only had that one bottle so won't be able to experiment. With the shortage of fruit flavors, I'm not sure if extra time will make those appear though, so that's a risk. Today, it was a more of a masculine, intellectual wine versus one that's more joyful and tasty to drink. Clearly a well made mine! Scoring a 91, which is in the middle of Excellent.

Just looked at other CT tasting notes and it seems I should've waited until year 20 to open this, but even then maybe no guarantees I would've enjoyed it more.

Old vine Temperanillo apparently located next to Vega Sicilian’s oldest vineyard (per R. Parker)

This wine is in an excellent spot. The nose is mostly savory—leather, leaves, soil, and cedar. There are wisps of fresh red fruit around the edges. The red fruit comes across more clearly on the palate as stemmed and tart. The tannins—a little gravelly—interact fairly seamlessly, giving the wine noticeable structure still.

Had over two nights and, because it wasn’t until the second night that the fruit really bloomed, I think this wine still has some development.

Round and polished bottle of tempranillo, so well balanced and finessed, that sometimes makes you think of Pinot Noir. However, good fruit, ripe tannins, gorgeous transition. Even though this wine is not inexpensive, it is a very good QPR. Very consistent.

No proper notes - very well integrated oak, suprisingly much tannins. Aromas of vanilla, blackberry, espresso, mullberry, violets. Very well structured and concentration is solid, long finsh, quite complex. Outstanding quality 92-93p

After 3 h first sip warm and round. And ... ?????? Nothing else. Thats it warm and round. Medium to big body. Not overripe. Not heavy. But no balance. No acid. No tannin. No backbone. No herbal or special touch. Just round red with medium finish. For 200 bucks ??? No Sir. Again a high price spanish that doesnt deliver !!!!

Krachtige start, zachte zuurgraad, boordevol krachtige tannines. Subtiele indrukken van mokka, bittere chocola en vlees-jus. Indrukwekkend lange afdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: Krachtige wijn in een wat mij betreft lastige fase. Niet meer het primaire fruit, maar nog geen tertriaire aromas. Vanaf nu een paar jaar geduld (overigens schreef ik in mijn vorige proefnotitie, uit 2016, hetzelfde ;-). Tasted at Rendezvous by Kerry Wines, Hong Kong. 197 wines. We managed to sip 32 in two hours. Hard work…but happy to roll up our sleeves, exercise our swirling wrists, put on our wine spectacles, clear our noses and cleanse our palates….we do what we can to make the world a better place!!!

A limited edition, only produced in certain vintages and 2000 bottles on the planet make this a most interesting drop. QPR? Well, she catapults to a very lofty level among more than a lot of competition. Simply stated, we applaud them for getting people to buy, but not of interest to our sensitive skin. Brick-opaque purple. Excessively alluring. Aromas of espresso, spices and dark berries. Luscious ripe tannins with a nice toasty smokey flavour (14 months in oak). A little older than barely legal now, she will lay down for quite a few years. Alas, the relatively high maintenance hottie who demands more than you are willing to give...or you think she is worth...either way, a luvly lady with whom you want to waltz at least once! We thank Kerry Wines for striking up the orchestra with this one!

Tasted at the Bodegas during visit. Bottle been opened for 3+ hours. Cherry, dark red fruit and minerals. Made in classic style, much closer to a Vega than Pingus. It is quite controlled with fine tannins. A bit peppery on palate, rather rounded, leading to mid length finish. Was expecting a bit more power from the 90yr old vines, will open another bottle later and allow more time for breathing.
