This was brought to a restaurant and popped roughly a half hour prior to drinking.
Big boastful nose of pepper, black spice and dark fruit. The palate is awash with plums and blackberries with a fat palate feel and texture. The finish is lasting and enjoyable. While it drank great for us, a good decant or a couple of years in bottle would be in order for maximum enjoyment.

I am a bit taken aback by how large-framed, yet proportioned this wine is. It certainly is not for the oak adverse, as there is a bit of a vanilla milkshake quality working here. Despite these qualities, however, the fruit is very pure and impressively long on the finish. The palate is dense with purple fruit and the tannins are quite chewy. Part of me wants to hate this wine for how slutty she is, but the other half is really enjoying the fact that I don't need to quote Hemmingway to understand her. She's sultry and unashamed.

You gotta be in the mood for this kind of wine, but when the time is right, it's nice to know it's there. My suggestion is to give this a sturdy decant, or (preferably) more time in bottle to settle down a bit.

from .375ml. Tasted slightly cooked at first but, with air, the fruit seemed to become less roasted, and more "correct." Not nearly as big, or milkshaky as my prior 750ml from May of 2010. Paired very nicely with a giant grilled bone-in ribeye.

Rich black fruit on the nose with that disctinct cabernet aroma of intense fruit and casis. The chewy tannins and velvety mid-palate are enveloped by the complex yet refined fruit profiles. Wonderfully long finish. An outstanding bottle for the price....let this one sleep for a few to really enjoy what it has to offer, but it drinks well now for those who are impatient.

What an expansive, plush and full mouthfeel this wine has. Lots of mocha, blackberry fruit and extract. Hedonistic without being too flabby or blousy, though I was not expecting such a full throttled Napa Cab experience based on previous vintages. Lots of time in the decanter recommended if you're going for a spin now (I had this in a decanter for ~5 hours before having a glass, and it still showed better on day 2).

This is an earthy crimson red colored wine that smells of cedar shavings, dead wood and dried, smoked earth. Medium bodied with smoked dark red and black fruits, kirsch, and an even keeled texture that gives the wine a well-focused baseline for the flavors to emerge from. A lingering finish, but not notably tannic. Silky on the tongue. This could evolve a little over the next 3 years or so, but it lacks the necessary acidity and tannins to go much beyond that.

I was given this bottle as a gift, and had no real expectations. Much to my surprise, this was a very pleasant bottle that I enjoyed all night. Popped and poured, with no decant. Instantly got some sweet dark fruit and oak upon opening, and after time in the glass it turned almost towards a zin-berry like amalgam of aromas. Medium bodied, pretty even keeled on the mouth, with a decent finish. Nothing other worldly, but definitely a no-nonsense/straight forward cabernet, and I'd struggle to recommend a better $17 cal cab from my past experiences. This is drinking well now, and I just don't see a reason to sit on these any longer if you have them.

Followed this over two nights - never decanted.

Nice, thick red color in the glass. The nose on night one was mostly about wet tobacco and an amalgam of berries that started out with smoky dark cherries and moved towards blue/black fruit - changing over the 3 hours or so I followed it. On day two the wet tobacco elements remained, along with some red plumb. Medium bodied with silky tannins on the finish. More of the dark red plumbs and black berry notes continue on the palate. A very complete, and balanced wine that is a nice departure from the high octane, riper cabs I have had of late. This should improve over the next 4 years or so, and hold nicely from there.

This is my first 2003 Miner Cab, and I really enjoy the refreshing expression of cabernet that it is. Lighter in color, and fairer in body, it worked extremely well with the coffee-rubbed steaks we had. Redder fruits prevail but are surprisingly restrained and in harmony with the tannins, which are soft. I am impressed with the integration on the wine considering its youth. Smooth from the entry to the finish on the palate.

Last of a 6-pack purchased on close out years ago. This wine has hardly changed over the years, always showing great acidity, a fair bit of structure and dusty red cherry fruits. The tannins and acid give good grip on the finish and create a nice balance. Perhaps a bit more fruit would be nice, but it does not come across as stingy or hollow. All in all, a nice drink, and one that is in no immediate peril should you decide to age a bit longer.

This was outstanding. Initially a little reticent on the pop-n-pour but boy did a little air and time do wonders here. It just kept expanding on the palate and nose all night long, and the last glass (which was finished on day two) was the best glass. Impressive density and size in the mouth but kept fresh and lithe by the acidity and clean fruit profile. White peaches, red apples, lemons and a kiss of salinity all melded together in a seamless package. The finish just pulls at your mouth in every direction and lasts and lasts. This bottle, sadly my last, was stunning.

Very nice, albeit slightly aggressive feel on the mouth, with strong notes of brown pear and oatmeal/oatmeal cookie on the nose. Similar profile on the palate, with crisp green pear on the front of the tongue and loads of noticeable bubble activity on entry. I would sit on this for a couple of years to let the mousse settle and the flavors integrate a bit more before having this again.

Steely lemon salt and smoke on the nose. Lean, yet focused line of pear and lemony acidity, with a little oak holding up the finish. This is my 2nd experience with this wine, which is rapidly becoming one of my favorite California chardonnays – especially at the price. Went particularly well with the oysters and lemon juice.

Another great showing for this wine, and one that both Shelley and I love. Very lean and racy with a long lemon-based fruit profile. The finish seems to just keep pulling at your palate - drawing more and more water on the back of your tongue. There is a touch of oak in the background, but it adds complexity and comes nowhere closer to interfering. A lovely wine that drinks great now, and should age nicely.

my 4th foray with this wine, and it continues to impress me. The best of all of the Sleepy Hollows, with what seems like the best qualities of the various vintages; lemon oil, slate and a mildly smokey nose. High acid, and flat out delicious.

I have had way too many of these for such a young bottling, but I am continually impressed with this wine. To my palate, Joe's '05 Sleepy Hollow represents everything a great young California Chardonnay should be. It has vibrantly ripe yellow citrus fruits that are tempered by great acidity and minerality, which work together to give superb length on the finish. I find it complex, full of drive and energy and just flat out delicious. In short, I consider this reference-grade material that has many years of positive development in front of it.

Followed over 2 days, with consistent notes throughout. Beginning to show, slightly, its age with a more yellow color both in hue and bouquet than prior bottles. She also seems to be gaining richness with a distinct waxiness to the still vibrant fruit. Excellent acidity, and very well proportioned. Perhaps in the early stages of developing secondary nuances, which may put this in the hold or drink now bin depending on you like your chardonnay. I'll be holding as I believe there is great upside to come.

The color is very light and straw-like. While the nose is a little reticent, it does give off just enough yellow citrus and a mineral perfume to pull you in. Things change in the mouth though, as it is racy, vibrant and focused on the palate, possessing a finish of green apple and more yellow citrus tones that are more than satisfyingly long. Lip smackingly clean and poised to improve with some additional time in bottle. Very nice.

Followed over 3 days. Nice light hue in the glass, with a somewhat reserved nose of lemon and grapefruit. Very bright, crisp and acidic yellow fruits on the palate. "Steely" seems like an apt descriptor. Lacks a bit of punch and the finish is a little clipped, but overall this is a great value at the $14.99 I paid for it. Good summer wine that would be ideal when chilled and consumed with grilled seafood.
