Cabernet Franc more

This wine was decanted and left to stand at room temperature for four hours before it showed its true nature.
Ruby red with a pink/ slightly amber rim.
Nose: Predominantly fruity with strong blackcurrant and redcurrant notes. Secondary floral and mint green hints, some tobacco and earthy spice. Attractive and complex nose.
Palate: Soft tannins (after decanting), good acidity, ripe blackcurrant and ripe cherry fruit. Tobacco and slight green tea. Crisp, chalky mouth feel. Warm mineral and fruit finish.
Complex and balanced. It needs food to be fully appreciated.
This wine has 3-5 years life in it yet!

Chateau de Villeneuve 2008, Saumur, Loire, France. Chenin Blanc 12.5% abv

Light coloured, bruised apples, with a hint of liquorish on the nose. The palate is high in acidity with creamy texture indicating malolactic. Strong Granny Smith apples. Full fruit with a green apple skin finish. Drinking now. This would need pairing with salmon or an oily fish to maximize the strong balance of fruit and acidity. This is a good one. €12 (€18) in the winery. Conclusion: I am going back for more. Quality: Very good

2006 L. A. Cetto Petite Sirah

Valle de Guadalupe more

9/16/2010 - Phil Oxera wrote: 87 points

Appearance: rich opaque, purple ruby, youthful

Nose: dark fruit, blackcurrant and redcurrants, cheesecake, mineral, leather, spice and black pepper

Palate: velvet mouth feel, medium plus tannins, long finish, bitter but luscious black fruit, traits of plum and dried currants, good acidity, nutmeg and cinnamon spices. Super size primary qualities which hides a 14% abv. Good combination of ripe tannins, acidity, fruit and spice. Some wood spice and leather give it an interesting complexity.

Two hours later it had mellowed with both white and black pepper components more evident. I believe that this wine is only entering its drinking window and may have a few years to go before it is at its best.

This was my first Petite Sirah but it will not be my last. It breaks all the rules of wine correctness. Monster, supersize helpings yet lots of complexity and interest. It may be “Petite” on the vine but it is “Grand” in the bottle. I am getting more of this one.

Deep ruby colour, pink rim. Intense dark fruit nose with a hint of elderflower and vanilla pod. Ripe powerful tannins with rich intense plumb, blackcurrant, blackberry and dried Christmas cake fruit. Full bodied with a long lingering finish and a slight hint of bitterness which is a good counterpoint to the sweetness. The fruit is so intense that there is little evidence of alcohol heat despite its 19.9% abv. Excellent balance.

Dark deep purple ruby colour. The nose is of red fruit, and vanilla spice and oaked. The palate conveys a rich dark fruit, good acidity and strong tannins. This wine needs a few more years. The fruit is dark cherry, blackberry with hints of vanilla and black pepper. Complex with a full mouth feel. It is balanced with a strong fruity finish. 2012 might be a good time to start drinking this.
