Coonawarra Roadshow (Masonic Hall, Goulburn street): Red plums, sweet blackcurrant fruit, slight pyrazines, sweet spice, slight compote/jubey notes. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, chalky tannins, more red hued fruits on the palate, slight alcohol prickle. Meh.

Wine Selectors 50 Best Tasting (Wharf 2 13 Hickson Road Millers Point): Ripe, slightly jammy , blackcurrant with pencil shavings and pyrazine notes and a little baking spice. Juicy tending t medium plus intensity acidity, flavour profile as per the nose, slightly grainy tannic underpin. There is a bit of alcohol warmth on the finish that makes things a little smudgy. Hmm.

Appearance: dark dark purple black core with purple hues. Very opaque and viscous. Full bodied with med+ acidity
Nose: this is a big wine and will benefit from at least 1 hr decanting prior to drinking. Once decanted, the aromas will open up. Blackberries, ripe plum, liquorice, back pepper, spices. Quite overpowering the nose.
Palate: you get thick luscious dark fruits on front: blackberries, blueberries, plum, dark chocolate/liquorice. Lots of forest floor, and hints of minty oak come through (prob due to Coonawarra terroir)

This is a complex full bodied Shiraz that is well made and for the cellars. Best paired with red meats. Great value and deserves my recommendation

NobleRottersSydney - Hidden Lable Night (Glass Brasserie, Sydney): {screwcap, 14.5%} [Andrew] Classic minty nose – and indeed palate – I always associate with Leconfield. There’s a bit of spice on the palate though. Low/medium acid, medium weight overall. Friendly tannins, short/medium length. Others like this a lot more than I – just the way it goes I guess. CD$36, AK$17

An fragrant and concentrated Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon which was aged in 50% new French oak for 18 months prior to bottling. Cassis and cinnamon on the nose leading to a medium bodied palate rich with blackberries, plums, and violets. Finishes with super silky tannins. will be better after a few years in the cellar

{screwcap, 14.5%} I thought this fairly uninspiring stuff, to be honest. Heavily worked blackberry and chocolate flavours, but verging on over-ripe, lacking vibrancy. Lands with a dull thud on the palate. Low acidity, medium dusty dry tannins, not particularly oaky though. Short/medium length finish. Not impressed. Perhaps it needs a few years in bottle.

{screwcap, 13.5%} Crimson red. Fruity nose of plum jam and vanilla. The palate is fruit-driven too, but fairly simple red plum flavours dominate, with medium acid, some coconut oak, finely soft low level dusty tannins and a sweetly-tinged but still fairly short finish. Competent stuff at a commercial level; hardly profound though. Drink up with your sausages.

As far as straight Oz merlot goes, sub $30, this is pretty decent. Ripe, a bit soupy, maybe even a fraction clumsy, but the herbal green notes are attractive and the buzzy astringency late keeps things straight.

Gorgeous rose bloom on the nose, coupled witg stewed red fruits and dark chocolate. The tanins are so approachable but will soften further with time. The back palate acid will soften and the slightly discombobulated effect should pass

{screwcap, 14.5%} Youthful ruby. A touch rubbery, with currants, liquorice and trademark mint. Palate is a bit blocky, warmly alcoholic, with medium acid and low dusty tannins. Brambly flavours, with herb and leaf, and black fruit. Fairly short finish though. Workaday. Best young I think, given the strong alcohol and weak structure.

This was a very solid bottle, showing purity of fruit and well managed med+ tannins. Ripe but not overripe fruit condition, med/med+ body and decent finish. Pretty elegant and agile. Darker red and lack fruits (black cherry, blackberry)

Pairied w a thick ribeye and went well. Looking for a little more complexity, and did not notice any telltale coonawara mintiness/ eucalyptus. Pretty good value for money.
