I laughed watching people sniff this around the table followed by an uncontrollable impulse uttering of "blechh". Pretty color, but the nose on this is so green and herbal. It just keeps getting worse. It is better on the palate, with some cherries and dill, but not worth drinking IMO. Drying tannins finish the picture. What a wreck. |

4/18/2014 - Paul S wrote: 92 pointsBirthday Dinner 2014 (Saint Pierre, Quayside Isle): After a whole lot of 2004 wines that were devoid of green meanies, this wine gave an almost comfortable familiarity when served blind. Quite a few of us picked up the vintage almost immediately. It certainly hadn't lost any of the green from the bottle we drank two years ago. The nose was full of slightly sweet boiled Chinese herb aromas – angelica root, dried wolfberries, even a touch of ginseng, alongside more standard Morey shades of blueberries and dried flowers on a bed of damp soil. It was certainly a bit green, but I would say this was pleasantly so, rather than being completely distracting. The palate had a certain finesse that belied the vintage, with bright, citrussy acidity and fine tannins giving shape to deep, weighty notes of blueberries and darker black cherries. There was a nice sense of purity to it all, again something one does not always get in 2004. The wine then wound its way into a full back-palate, with earth and meat and a ring of spice and florals and just that menthol-like green note making up a long, satisfying finish. A little grip of fine tannins right at the end showed the relatively youth of the wine. Otherwise, this was actually drinking quite well. It should go on developing nicely in the near future as well. Not a knockout Clos de Tart, but certainly a nice wine - if you do not mind a bit of green meanies that is. |

4/7/2012 - Paul S wrote: 93 pointsMy Birthday Celebration (Kingyo, Marina Square): Very nice. This was a good way to end the evening. After a string of 2004s that were entirely devoid of green meanies, this was a bit more obvious, with some clearly stemmy notes and hints of Chinese herb drifting in and out of an otherwise classic Clos de Tart nose with its dark cherry and cranberry aromas wed to deeper, more savoury notes of meat and earth. I must say though that the greenness was of a level where it added to the wine's sense of character and complexity rather than distracting the drinker. It was there, but certainly in the background rather than at the fore. Another good sign for the vintage perhaps. However, while the nose was a bit controversial, the palate was clearly very good. It had a nice dose of fresh, lively acidity that lent a lovely sense of defintion to deep flavours of black cherries and berries on the attack. These were lined with sweet spices and more meaty, earthy notes on the midpalate. Pretty solid stuff, if a bit primary at the moment. It had nice finish too, with just a twist of herbs finding their way into the meaty nuances at the back-palate. Rather too young I think, but there was certainly no harm in drinking it on the night after it had sat for several hours in an open bottle. I actually was surprised to see how open this was for a young Clos de Tart. Still though, this is a bottle that will definitely benefit from another 3 to 5 years in the cellar. |

4/11/2010 - gorm wrote: 90 pointsSure this is "green" but in a more controlled manner than many other 04's that I've had. I actually find it pretty attractive. The greenness comes across as a somewhat metallic synthetic and herbal quality but it is wrapped in a good deal of sweet cherries and sweet oak. It is medium bodied and not as powerful or concentrated as clos de Tart normally is, but it's enjoyable drinking. |

3/12/2015 - justburg wrote: 87 pointsMedium red, rather translucent, with some apparent age. Rather herbaceous, black tea, hints of green with some mature red fruit, sour cherries and dried flowers. Rather meaty and austere. Palate seemed rather disjointed, with lack of structure and acidity. Some dried plums, prunes and grapefruit, but again, there was some unpleasant grass flavours to this wine. Tart and sour with some time. Not a good 2004. |

9/14/2019 - BenBlu Likes this wine: 87 pointsServed blind - lots going on here. Nose: stemmy, green, smoke, beacon, some game. On the palate some minerality, salty, meaty, lack of fruit, and ultimately left with an impression I was chewing on a wood chip. Naah - I actively dislike this and it gets worse with every minute. In the end the experience is that I am licking an ashtray after having eaten that wooden chip. As enjoyment goes this ranks very low. I simply can't drink it. |

5/24/2010 - thomaskeil Likes this wine: 92 pointsAt The Ledbury. Not decanted. Bright rusty-red. Nose is red fruit-driven, with spice, earth, hint of stems, and ashy-mineral. Tense, energetic fruit on entry with clear acidity, meeting firm, lively tannins at midpalate. Balanced finish with finesse and medium complexity. Medium length. I would decant and expect age to raise richness as it softens. (Searched for objectionable greeness and did not find.) |

Not mind-blowing in and of itself, but elegant and very nice as part of a big flavor meal of duck breast w cherries. Some very mild greenness was present, but I found it an interesting counterpoint rather than a distraction. Purists will hate the greenness in general, and the green pepper finish in particular. For the money I liked it fine. Very good food wine with nice balance and acidity. Very Good to excellent (85-89) |

11/12/2011 - Jeremy Holmes wrote: NRUpon first pour this wine nearly was treated to a second pour straight down the sink. It was green, mean, skinny and shrill, showing strong notes of mirepoix, nettles and Schezuan pepper. It had real quinine bitterness to the finish and was quite unpleasant. It was just ok with food and then I left it alone for an hour or so, totally different animal now. Sweet dark fruits had intensified from the wine’s heart and its edges had been somewhat planed off. There was a strap of liquorice threading through the palate and the greener notes appeared more like dried flowers. It had blossomed into something that was indeed quite lovely, still very much an 04 but a nice wine. |

Caramel w air. Opens into dirty ashtray celery salt. Bite mellows a bit w air into a cola like bite, industrial chemical tire and a touch of overcooked bacon...later gets to a buttery formic acid insecticide. This wine needs something to straighten out in order to be generous! |
