Initially the wine displayed some nice rhubabrb, leather and black cherry characteristics on the nose. Decided to decant and let some additional time pass. This resulted in additional strength in the depth of the black cherry, but also made room for a little earth, a slight smokiness, a little chocolate and an asparagus undertone to appear. Sounds odd, but it was enjoyable and paired nicely with a bacon and spinach risotto. |

4/24/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 86 pointsThe nose delivered deep raspberry along with a hint of vanilla and black licorice with a nice earthy quality. This definitely had some nice structure for a $17 wine. Not a ton of depth and a still a little one dimensional, but pretty smooth. A good food wine! |

5/14/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 84 pointsDeep purple color. Reminded me of Welch's. This came across as a little young still, but delivered some nice deep red fruit on the palate. I got quite a bit of alcohol on the nose as well. Even as a 2010, it's a good buy and daily drinker though. |

5/17/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 85 pointsTasted in conjunction with Sean Sullivan's virtual tasting on 5/17/12. A very dark rosé with a bright ruby color. Definitely not the typical light salmon color you typically see. However this came in at 12.4% alcohol. Upon opening the nose was pretty sweet and contained maraschino cherry and watermelon Jolly Rancher notes. Palate was not as sweet at the nose leads one to believe. Was actually quite dry with a nice balance of acid and minerality with a hint of rhubarb. A nice rosé to pair with food and a good QPR at ~$10. |

5/20/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 93 pointsSlightly dusty nose with notes of dark cherries and tar, which blossomed into a Cayuse-like perfumed nose after an hour and a half. Popped, pored and determined a decant was necessary, which really allowed the wine to shine. A great, smooth mouth feel transitioned to a slight moment of spice on the mid palate and a long finish comprising of salumi and hints of smoke. Recommend decanting for two hours before jumping in. Another delicious creation by Christophe though! |

5/27/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 72 pointsNice straw color. As expected, a very sweet nose containing rich peach, dried apricot and a hint of pineapple. At the wine warmed a bit these characteristics subsided and more honey notes appeared. Sweet, viscous and fairly one dimensional melon notes on the palate. A consistent flabbiness transitioned to a slightly sour finish. Overripe fruit? I remember liking this more when I purchased it over a year ago at the winery. |

6/3/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 90 pointsTranslucent garnet color. Hints of spice and tobacco accompanied by black olive and piquillo pepper notes on the nose. Upon opening, the acidity was immediately apparent on the palate, but was not overwhelming. After several hours of decanting, this smoothed out nicely. Nice, light, bright strawberry and cherry flavors transitioned to black olive on the finish. Good QPR! Will buy again! |

6/8/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 90 pointsDecanted at 4:30pm and again at 5:20pm. Great dark garnet-purple color. In the process of decanting, I received some vanilla scents. Nose consisted of floral notes, dark berries and a touch of chocolate followed by a hint of alcohol, most of which blew off after 45 minutes or so. A nice round mouth feel continued to improve with some air and the second decant. Dark fruit a touch of acidity and ripe tannins grace the palate. An unexpectedly long finish at this price point! A good buy with a great QPR! |

6/12/2012 - kwn70 wrote: 84 pointsGreat color to this wine! Very dark magenta. At 14.9% this came off pretty hot on the nose. Decanted it twice and by the third day of enjoying this wine, there was still a bit of alcohol coming through on the nose. Pretty nice, pure red fruit on the palate with nice acidity and medium finish. A little one-dimensional and disjointed though. Still a little too much alcohol coming through as well. This isn't doing much for me at the moment. Will try the second bottle after a year or two. |

11/30/2012 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 91 pointsIn a blind tasting I would have pegged this as a Reynvaan wine. Great nose of black pepper, a touch of funk and a slight bit of caramel. The palate was a tad hot, but the beefy notes and nice minerality were pleasant. Good QPR! |

12/31/2012 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 93 pointsOne of my favorite whites from Washington State. This was the second bottle I've had and it did not disappoint. On the nose there was some nice honey and apricot followed by a touch of sweetness on the palate. Unlike many viogniers out there, I enjoyed some nice mineralogy on the palate and just the right amount of acidity throughout. A great food wine! |

1/17/2013 - kwn70 wrote: 85 pointsUpon opening here was a lot of blackberry and raspberry on the nose. Decanted and was still very tannic and the acid was rather pronounced. After two hours, the fruit on the nose diminished a hair, but remained true to the initial characteristics and a little wet stone showed up. With time the tannins and acid seemed to integrate and balance out a bit. The nose seemed to directly translate to what was found on the palate. May have had a touch of leather in there as well? Overall, I felt this was a little rough around the edges. Being a 2010, it’s likely a bit on the young side. Then again maybe I should have grilled up a rib eye to do it justice... |

1/21/2013 - kwn70 Likes this wine: 89 pointsI forgot what a beautiful magenta color this wine is! Looked great glistening down the decanter! It hasn’t been a full year (or two), but his wine has progressed nicely from the first/last time I had it. The nose had more dark fruit and spice with a touch of oak. The palate it still a touch hot at times and still has a strong helping of tannins, but the deep, juicy black and blue fruit is starting to show more. Paired with marinated hanger steak salad. Much more enjoyable this time around. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
