8/23/2008 - Paul S wrote: 87 pointsDinner at Le Bistrot (Indoor Stadium, Singapore): William donated this to our cause. Thanks William! This was the first Monsant wine I have ever tried. Served blind, I pegged it down to Spain from the sense of terroir and the use of oak, but could not for the life me figure out what the wine was otherwise. No wonder too - it was a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 blend of Granacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. With 20/20 hindsight, one can see the influence of each of the varietals of course, but it was a rather confusing wine at the time of tasting. Paired with a lovely pork belly dish, this had a dark red colour. Sweet and sappy on the nose, with lots of maraschino cherries mixed in with some wine stems. Just a touch of umami. On the palate, some heat and ripe, woody, grainy tannins gave the wine a very extracted feel. There was touch of cola at the mid-palate and more sweetish raspberry and cherry flavours throughout. It finished with another flush of heat, a touch of dry, woody, slightly bittersweet tannins and a little smoke. Later on, the nose showed some leather, darker, thicker cherries, while the wood become a little more prominent on the palate. The wine was supported by nice round acidity thoughout, a nod to its old world heritage, but was otherwise very modern and quite uninspiring. |

3/25/2008 - huse wrote: 91 pointsThe cuvée „Venus“ is a blend of 50 percent Carinyena (from 40-70 year old vines) and 50 percent Syrah, aged for 17 months in new French oak barriques. Very similar in style to the cuvée “Dido”. Good ruby-red color. The bouquet is characterized by fresh herbs and fine elderberry notes. On the palate it offers loads of red berry fruit, well-integrated tannins and some smooth oak tones. A very elegant, feminine, medium-bodied wine with a nice acidity on the finish. |

Medium bodied, elegant structure with well-integrated tannins ; good length. A very nice modern wine, made by the successful oenologist-couple Sara Perez (Clos Martinet/Priorat) and Rene Barbier (Clos Mogador/Priorat). |

Soft but full black cherry flavors, with well-integrated tannins and a surprisingly long finish. Lots of fruit, not a lot of complexity, but a very nice wine. |

This is a nice wine but at a price point ($17) where there are many nice wines. While I'm glad I had this wine, and I enjoyed it with beef stewed and root vegetables stewed in wine and garlic, there are a lot of wines at this price that I enjoy more. |

YUM 90+ with some ability to improve i think |
