Wow. Needs time. First day note virtually useless. Dark black with a ruby rim. Deep nose of black cherry, coffee, iron. Mid is deep cherry with a tannic hit. High acid keeping this bog boy fresh. Long savory finish with herbs and pepper. Give this time in the cellar to develop!
Big, powerhouse wine. on the nose it started with ripe black fruit but with time showed more leather/smoke/bacon. mid is rich but very well balanced. savory tannins. Ripe but never heavy. perhaps a touch of alc on the nose but very slight. Impressive balance stood out the most to me - especially for a hot year.
Great showing for this wine. Major QPR. cherry and bright red fruit. burgundy-like in color but with heavy and fine sediment (had to decant carefully) black to red fruit in the mid. great acidity. still a grip on the finish. with time - more tart cherry in the mid. delicious and at peak. Awesome with grilled meats. (PS - no sign of 2003 in here - light bright and classic)
