Was a fun experiment holding on to this last bottle for so long, but I'm afraid it's over the hill. Couldn't finish the bottle.

Saturday get-together: Where there are suitable lime, lemon, grass, and kiwi flavors offering a degree of pleasure here, I am just not getting much in the refreshing department. The finish is significant the same way Blockbuster video is still significant, with little uptick to hold interest and go in for another sip. It’s just not really there; it is inspiring as something to drink before you move on to the other wines that will be (or, better be!) more captivating. I like to geek-out on Sauvignon Blanc and some of the unique flavors that can rise from the different versions of the varietal, but bottom line it’s gotta be lively and refreshing, otherwise, what’s the point of Sauvignon Blanc?!

A kinda ok-ish showing that quite frankly was a shrugging-up-one-shoulder humdrum exercise for me. ‘Meh’ applies here. The 2016 is great. This 2017 is… [insert whatever synonym best describes listening to C-SPAN].

New friends, new wines in Novato: Reminiscent of the NZ SBs I am keen on but with slightly subdued tropical notes of pineapple and melon. Went well with the raw oysters. Still prefer the NZ SBs in this category.

An evening with good food, great people and amazing wine (Where the silence is longed for): Aromas of stone in a pond, clean and stale straws, a bit of claw, a soft tropical fruit note. An undertone of mineral notes, yellow fruits and some grass. I wish this had just a touch more acidity on the palate to help lift and push the flavors a bit, this seemed just a bit flat.

Kiwi, lime, grapefruit, lemon verbena, and acacia notes make for Sauvignon Blanc typicity with an added floral component that offers an extra tick of interest. Medium bodied, with a mid-palate that skirts a full drop in the depth department but still invigorates with persistent acidity and drive. Finishes relatively smooth with a mild pop of lemon juice on the tail.

Though I find this 2017 to be light years behind the insanely gorgeous 2016, there is certainly immediate pleasure to be had. Drink now.

Still performing well, carrying slightly weightier yellow stone fruit, melon, and citrus notes complimented by some focused mineral and grass flavors. This compelled me to buy the 2017. Looking forward to comparing the two vintages.

Drink the 2016 now and over the next year or so.

Overly acidic — tastes like lemon and the insides of lemon seed. Gets better as it approached room temp, oddly enough, where lime and lime zest notes are pronounced. Not worth close to its retail.

In its youth this shows a pineapple/tropical note. I was hoping for it and pleased to find it’s still there at ~5 years age.

My first experience with the 2017. I went through quite a bit of the 2016, but wanted to see how this vintage compared.

Right off the bat, this seems to be very much in the same profile as the 2016, but maybe a bit less rambunctious. Whereas the 2016 came across as a big, round and viscous “super SauvBlanc”, this has all the qualities that made the 2016 great but more balanced. Extremely tropical on both the nose and palate. White peach, guava, key lime cake and some grapefruit. Definitely pick up the use of oak on the nose as it has that distinct character. The palate is big but not flabby. The oak use has this very rounded but with a good spine of acidity. Sea salted key lime pie, honeysuckle, and quite a bit of limestone on the finish. Enjoy now.

This has shed the pineapple, tropical fun energy of its youth and is now a savory, serious guy. Personally I preferred the youthful presentation.

The last of 14 bottles. This wine in its "youth" seemed to have a more gravelly and limestone character. Lots of "citrus pulp" character and bracing acidity. This has changed over the last year or so. Steadily there has been an influx of herbal character, but the pineapple and citrus backbone still defines this wine. Still very full bodied and "grippy" but more rounded and mature. Yellow fruits are starting to replace the more citrus tones but citrus still remains the primary here. This wine has incredible structure and I dare say this one would hold another 5 years or so in bottle. Gonna have to place an order soon for the current vintage!

To me, New world sauv blanc is fine, new on a hot day, but generally unremarkable. Aesthete is the exception to the rule. Excellent grass, melon, pineapple, citrus balance.

Age is shifting this from plush, pure tropical and stone fruit, towards creme brûlée and citrus.

Just lovely. Light lemon gold, watery rim. Nose is complex and interesting, for sure some oak, but really nicely integrated with coconut, apple and pear notes. Palate is medium bodied, again, super complex with a lovely smooth mid-palate, again a little coconut oak and some crisp apple and lemony fruit. Really good ringer for a top notch white Bordeaux. Excellent.

Checked all my notes. This is officially the "best" sauvignon blanc I've yet tasted (although I do have a couple of Boulay's in the cellar....).

Adding to @Ron R‘s prior notes (on Delectable), this is holding up strong. Nose still is intensely perfumed, showing the a tropic fruit wet stone thing. The tension is still firmly there too, carrying through to a lingering finish.

Csimm contribution #2 to get together with CTers csimm and WBW and significant others; nice to have a white with the 3 bold cabs. PnP. Wine seemed a bit cooler than cellar temp to begin, but the promised ice bucket never appeared, so it warmed up close to room temp by meal end. Msuwright hits it that this wine has as majestic a nose as you'll ever find in a wine, particularly a white, bursting with sweet tropical and stone fruits, quince and tangerine. Consistent on the palate with white flowers and marzipan and with an absolute blast of intensity I've not witnessed in a SB and only rarely in chards (the Aubert Hyde I recently reviewed would be one of those rare ones). Pale gold, medium to full bodied, thick legs. Strong persistence, no obvious acidity, no heat. This wine is delicious and very good, but without wishing to be churlish, it's not necessarily what I'm looking for in a SB. The wine had the oleaginous texture of the Hyde and a Sauterne-like finish which overwhelmed the food I matched it with (various middle eastern spreads and fish) that a more typical SB with higher acidity wouldn't have. Interestingly, it seemed to find its footing as an accompaniment to the date nut cake and panna cotta; perhaps this is consistent with csimm's note that the wine improved with more air time.

How is this wine going to evolve? Beats the heck out of me, although the lack of acidity makes me think it's a drink sooner than later proposition. Full bodied nature of the wine makes it servable at a warmer cellar temp than most SBs, but better as a standalone drinker, with some type of fruit dessert or foie gras, for those consuming politically incorrect foods, than with fish or poultry. 91-92

Previous notes apply, though this bottle showed more unctuousness and somewhat surprisingly slightly-brassy Semillon-esque characteristics to the point that at times it overpowered the core. A powerful SB with a ton of punchy flavor. I liked it. It was yummy. But it was a biggin’. The oak influence seemed to show a bit here, but with time in the glass it mellowed-out more in line with what I expect from this wine. If drinking now, give it some air. It’s got a lot of good things going on...but it indeed has a lot going on. Better toward the end of the night than at the beginning.

Some may find it ‘too much’ of a good thing, while us heathens will continue kicking back the glass and guzzling it down like a high school senior downing tequila shots on Spring Break in Cancun. (It is perhaps a little more intellectual for a SB... so maybe the high school kid got a 1450 on her SATs......)

Slightly corked. Just enough that no one wanted to drink it, yet was probably okay to include in the mushroom sauce since that's pretty much the note that it gave off... Bummer.

This rich but pungent 100% Sauvignon Blanc manages to offer a round but energetic profile, which can be hard to do in northern CA (or anywhere, at least without some dose of Semillon to round out the edges). Make sure to give this at least an hour or two of air, since it currently needs to open up (and probably warm up) to drink at its best.

Light yellow in color and full, almost creamy in mouthfeel, the wine offers intense and enticing aromas of lemon rind, white flowers, gooseberry, butterscotch, and toasted almond (really, the nose here is insane). The tastes are still somewhat raw, with notes of nectarine, creme brûlée (slightly burned), beeswax, and saline, with a finish that has some real bite (think: sediment at the bottom) but lingers pleasantly. A little softer on second day. 14.4% alcohol.

This reminded me a bit of the Bevan Dry Stack Sauvignon Blanc, not only because they come from the same vineyard, but also because there is nutty astringency to both wines. Still, the Aesthete has enough finesse and creaminess (maybe it's the White Bordeaux barrel treatment) to make it more compelling, at least to me. 93-94 for now, with upside in 6-12 months.

Even better than when I had it over a year ago, this is one of the more compelling domestic Sauvignon Blancs out there. Vibrant and uber-flavorful, it delivers a beautifully clean tropical and yellow citrus core that doesn't have a harsh edge to be found. Some sleek wet stone, white nectarine, and lemon verbena notes add interest mid-palate as well. This kicks out one of those "dances across the palate" kind of executions. In a perfect spot right now, with the acid and fruit playing favorites back and forth on through the delectable finish. The tail offers lime zest, light honey, and acacia notes that catapult it into next level SB. Focused and fun. Me needs MORE...... Love it! 96-97 points.

I agree with everything I said about the last review posted on this wine. I think this is my favorite and go-to SB. Outperforms Lail with ease. This side by side with the Georgia is toe to toe for about a third of the price. Bought a case after this experience. Stunning wine. Only a matter of time before these get out of hand price-wise.
