5/12/2023 - apkocher Likes this wine: 91 pointsHerbaceous nose, hints of dark red fruit. Palate is dark red fruit, cherry, and blueberry with herbal notes later. Medium full body and still good acidity and tannins. Medium finish. Had been holding onto this for a while and you could easily drink it now or hold at least another few years. |

3/10/2023 - apkocher Likes this wine: 91 pointsDefinitely in it’s prime right now. Cherry with some floral aromatics. I think this wine leans heavily into the Petit Verdot, maybe a little too heavily for my taste. Tart cherry, blueberry, maybe violet, and herbs. A hint of mocha and cedar rounds it out. Good acidity and very fine tannins. Overall enjoyed the bottle. |

3/4/2023 - apkocher Likes this wine: 89 pointsNicely aging cab franc. I’d say this is classic and true to the varietal. Garnet color, strawberry and bell pepper, still some nice acidity and good tannic structure. |

8/11/2022 - m.barretta wrote: 91 pointsDeep garnet. Dark red fruit, leather, assume menthol and chocolate on the nose. Strong core of ripe dark cherries, some green notes I can't identify (black tea?) on the palate, balanced by high, but mostly integrated tannins. Medium acidity, full body, medium+ finish. |

3/9/2018 - timewithwine wrote: NRMere impressions with no notes take as this was an impulse pull as a second bottle when our Druet Vaumoreau finiished much too early. Plum, currant and cinnamon, with some earthiness. Clean yet rustic and delivering a lighter-than-desired mouthfeel. Some slight sediment and a shadow on the shoulder. 13.9% alc. With (beef) Shack attack burgers while PMB is home for a portion of her final spring break before graduation. Recommended with reservations. |

The rustic charm has worn off. Sediment clings to the shoulder and some more deposits in the glass. Another example of don’t buy to be polite. Buy ruthlessly; not politely. 13.9% alc. With leftover (beef) burgers topped with a fried egg. Not Recommended. |

This is one of the most forgettable wines I’ve ever had, which may make it more memorable than it should be. Sediment clings to the shoulder and sides of the bottle. Another example of don’t buy to be polite. Buy ruthlessly; not politely. 13.9% alc. With leftover pork ribs. Not Recommended. |

6/15/2015 - timewithwine wrote: NRAfter 6 years this still retains a youthful cranberry hue from most every angle. Cinnamon, sandalwood, raspberry, earth, and cherry. No element of pine resin. It all translates cleanly on the palate. The mouthfeel is somewhat light. The quality of this wine is lacking, but it’s not without some rustic charm. Some slight sediment and a shadow on the shoulder. 13.9% alc. With pizza of mushroom, pepperoni and onions. Recommended with reservations. |

The nose is sandalwood, raspberry, earth, cherry and pine resin (only a touch of a the latter). Much the same on the palate with a medium leaning light on the mouthfeel. The finish is earthy sandalwood with some tea notes. This reminds me of the quality of Virginia wines from 15 years ago, which is to say that the quality of the wine is lacking. Yet, the wine isn’t without interest, if nothing more than being a data point. Some slight sediment in the final pours. 13.9% alc. With assorted meats (smoked turkey, molé, toscano, and ham - both country and Surryano) and cheeses (Hayley Bazen blue (Vermont), Prince de Fontaine, truffled cheeses, etc.) Recommended with reservations. |

12/12/2005 - timewithwine Does not like this wine: NRThe last bottle of this wine and just in time too. A nose of cranberry, cherry, thyme, tobo and leather. A deep cranberry color that invites the eye. The palate is SAN with a very unusual quality of being able to pair with the dustiness of the sauteed spinach. (rather cool!) However, true to the vintage it has a continuing green, vegetal finish. Nevertheless, it is the best wine of that miserable vintage. Likely at peak. Resolved tannins that will carry the wine awhile, but no need to wait any longer. Some slight sediment shadow on the bottle, 12.5% alc. With pork tenderloin in a bacon and cranberry sauce. |

10/3/2003 - timewithwine Does not like this wine: NRThe wine is now a bright, rich burgundy color shading to ruby on the rim. Black cherry, tobo and mocha, but with a green note at the end of the nose. Fairly good fruit, but with a short disappointing mid-palate. Flavors of black cherry, tobo, mint and a little mocha. Some pine resin-like quality on the finish. A welcome toastiness toward the finish, but with a hint of green, weediness on the finish. 12.5% alc. Paired well with veal stew. |

6/24/2003 - timewithwine wrote: NRA bright youthful garnet. Pencil lead, dust, with a nose-full of old fashion rose, along with black cherry and strawberry. But the nose doesn't transfer to the palate but does deliver some dark cherry and graphite, VA and earth. 12.5% alc. This is moving from its dumb stage and still rather right. I'm regretting that didn't decant this wine. Opened about 30 minutes prior to dinner of grilled pork tenderloin stuffed with bleu de basque, red bell pepper and rosemary. |
