Intense acidity, rich caramel (but not a hint of sweetness), white grapefruit, a hint of nuts. Extremely long aftertaste, ending on a slightly bitter note. Very austere, impressive but not easy to like. Still, if you take it on its own terms and serve it with the right food (lemon chicken perhaps, or grilled shrimp?) this is objectively an exceptional wine. I just wish I liked it more! This should remain in good shape for several more years.

This was by far the best. Not overripe, not haggard, low in alcohol and very balanced. 95

This is normally my favourite Riesling wine from 2003, today second best, exotic fruits, candy floss. At his peak. 94

Keller Kirchspiel
Less elegant than the Hubacker and more evolved but still nicely drinkable. Would drink it now. 92

Bürklin Wolf Kirchenstück
More evolved than expected. Same problem with the 2004 I had 3 weeks ago. Normally Kirchenstück ripes really slow. Still good drinkable. 92

Beautiful stuff. Nose of honey and teak oil. Picks up floral on the palate with a richness. Grapefruit Badoit. Lovely weight and an acidity of limes and drinking vinegar to balance it.

Recht tiefes, reifes gelb. In der Nase deutlich rauchig und nussig-hefig, dazu typische Riesling-Noten von reifem Kern- und Steinobst, deutlich Petrol, dazu auch exotische Früchte wie (recht grüne) Ananas und Mango. Immer deutlich dabei ist ordentlich Zitrus, leider dominiert das mit der Zeit deutlich.

Am Gaumen initial mit sehr guter Spannung, eher dezenter Süße recht krasser Säure mit (für mich) trotzdem ausreichend Spiel und Balance. Auch hier setzt sich mit der Zeit leider deutlich Zitrus durch und der Wein verliert merklich an Spannung.

Start war Richtung 88, Ende eher 83-84.

An aristocratic and uncompromising wine, it doesn't really care whether you like it. Flowers, lemons, hard unripe peaches, nuts, extreme--even startling--acidity with not even the faintest hint of sweetness, and a long aftertaste that starts out rich but becomes more and more austere, with some bitter acidity toward the end. Very reminiscent of a zero-dosage Champagne. After about half an hour in the glass, the acidity becomes better integrated into the wine, making the wine more enjoyable. Seafood is an obvious pairing. Should be fine for at least 2 years. Whether it lasts longer will depend on whether what is now a delicate hint of nuttiness starts to grow and to take over the wine to its detriment--I personally would not wait to find out.

A bottle forgotten in the cellar that probably was not meant to last this long. Although not so labelled, this wine was halbtrocken (or even trocken) in style -- 11.5% stated alcohol. The wine has just a little residual sugar to bring out the yellow plum fruit in a medium-weight, creamy body. It's ok to drink, but nothing special. Better with food. Cellared since original release.

A super bottle of a 19 year-old QbA(!). The residual sugar only gives roundness and silkiness to the wine, no sweetness. Herbal notes in the nose that carry into the mouth where there is also some sultana fruit and a touch of butter and caramel. Outstanding balance. 11.5% stated alcohol. APN 019 03. Cellared since original release.

Etwas Honig, reifes Kernobst, deutlich exotische Anklänge in der Nase. Wirkt noch sehr frisch.

Am Gaumen dazu mit feiner Säure und Mineralität, eher auf der zurückhaltenden Seite und in der Aromatik einfach aber klar.

Nicht sehr lang, für mich ein schöner einfacher Essensbegleiter.

Liebfrauenmilch used to be a cheap and sweet white cuvée made in Germany, which was exported a lot in the 70s and 80s. In the last couple of years, young wine makers rediscovered Liebfrauenmilch and started to produce better quality ones. This got me curious and I bought a bottle on sale.

Made from 90% Müller-Thurgau and 10% Bacchus.
The palate is of course off-dry (20.9 g/L RS) but RS is not too dominant, if enjoyed cold, also due to rather high acidity (6 g/L). I got mostly peach and quince, summer flowers and light herbs. Sweet finish.

I guessed Austrian Riesling because of the full body but the hot vintage was "guilty". Some ripe yellow stone fruits but not over his peak and not overripe. 90

Leider leichter Kork, kann man aber drum herumriechen und -trinken.

In der Nase zwar reif, auf 30 Jahre wäre ich allerdings nicht gekommen. Reifes Stein- und Kernobst, dazu aber auch Kiwi und Melone. Keine Firne, wenig Honig. Am Gaumen vollmundig, rund, reif, schön integriert. Langer Abgang, hier dann auch mit Karamell und Popkorn. Mir fehlt leider recht viel Säure, die deutlich mehr Frische und Struktur bringen würde.

Absolutely stunning. Opened with friends after tasting a vareity of FLX Rieslings. Gold color, honeyed nose with a variety of subtle spices. On the palate, extremely rich with just the right balance of sweet, acid, structure, spice and more. Wow.

Another Round of Riesling from Dee Vine Wines with a Bonus 1976 TBA (1601 Kitchen, San Francisco): Poured from Dade Thieriot's private collection. Apparently auctioned in 1985. Bright, golden color. Gorgeous, complex aromas that show only a bit of botrytis. Elegant weight, spicy, low pitched flavors, excellent acidity and length. In amazing shape. Outstanding now, still has years to go. A great treat to taste.

Not much of a nose, certainly nothing interesting but its carries a most striking strawberry blond colour which really suits it.

Noticable acidity and I was surprised that it wasn't sweeter so would argue that it has low sugar content. Not Australian Riesling dry but certainly not one for Kabinet lovers everywhere.

A rich wine, full mouth feel with a mellow, sweet lime flavour. Hardly delicate but very presentable for the age.

A good find.

Quite deep, intense and concentrated golden yellow for such a young wine. Big, rich and somewhat waxy nose with expressive aromas of apricots, honey, some pineapple, a little bit of youthful, estery banana character and a slightly sponti hint of panna cotta. The wine is full-bodied, medium-sweet and quite intense on the palate with enjoyable richness and intensity. There are medium-sweet flavors of perfumed flowers, ripe citrus fruits, some waxy character, a little bit of pineapple, hints of apricots and other stone fruits and a touch of honeydew melon. The wine is high in acidity, which offsets the sweetness nicely and lends good sense of structure and intensity to the wine. The moderately sweet finish is rich, long and quite intense with flavors of honeydew melon, apricots, some apple blossom, a little bit of pineapple and a hint of waxy complexity.

This was a very positive surprise. Despite its obvious sweetness the wine retains remarkable balance and doesn't come across at all too cloying or otherwise excessive. A well-made and harmonious sweeter Riesling you can pair easily with cheeses or more piquant Asian dishes. Drinking nicely now, but I can imagine this can continue to improve for some years in a cellar. Good value at 14,49€.

From 1/2 bottle: Found shockingly near identical characteristics as Paul D’s last note but this bottle had wonderful precision of nice acidity making the fruit pop and linger on a remarkably long finish. Really nice nectar character.

Semi-sweet, palate with dried apricot, apple, citrus and good acidity (although not really high for a Riesling), some spice notes. Overall good balance, finely developed and drinks well, but should keep. 89 p.

This wine has a very peculiar taste and I can see how some people might not like it. It tastes lemony, but also is very sweet. Although I can also see why someone would like this particular taste.
