2023 Hoddles Creek Riesling Wickhams Road Yea Valleymore |
5/22/2024 - Avid Wino wrote: 92 pointsLovely, albeit not the flavour profile I had anticipated, though having never tried a Wickhams or any Yarra Riesling before, not sure why I had any expectations. Green apple, both the fruit itself and an additional sorbet character on the finish. Body, weight. Touch of green herbs, which in the presence of the almost lactic body reminds me of Frankfurter Grüne Sosse. Heaps of length. Frankly I could drink this by the pint glass, though it is far too fine to deserve such treatment. Wouldn’t argue with 93. |

4/17/2024 - Pverd wrote: 90 pointsA bit of reductive struck match on the nose, but underneath lots of grapefruit and slightly underripe white peach. Still light to mid weight palate in a Chablis style, white peach, minerally and nice fresh acidity. Well put together chardonnay with real finesse, though in the end May lacking in real, fruit depth, but for the price, a real bargain |

3/21/2024 - Scott4227 Likes this wine: NRBright red, nose of sour cherries, cranberries, notes of black tea leaves, mixed spice; on the palate huge sour cherry, almost granny smith apple flavours, red berry flavours on the finish. Light weight, big acid, light tannins... probably needs another 12 months... won't be a long lived pinot, one of those for the fridge 30 mins before decant (aggressively!) And some nice soft cheese or, as we did, slow cooked lamb shank pizza. Too early for a score but will after 6-12 months with future bottles. Even now, good QPR at $20AUD |

Waft of chalky dustiness. Ample length. This is like a regular Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay with all the dials turned up to 11 especially pleasure. Outstanding chardy. |

1/1/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRBright clear mid red showing the earliest signs of ageing. Nose is complex and savoury; spicy, smoky, earthy, with pinot fruit and sappiness showing underneath. This all continues onto the palate, and after some air a much softer cherry fruit emerges. This is a smart, complex and well proportioned wine, perhaps a tad strong on the oak/stemmy characters, at least upon opening, but that is a personal dislike of mine in general. Plenty of time ahead of it. |

Definitely mature. I had hoped it might scale up but im not seeing that here. Just had a covid booster so aware it may have adversely affected my palate temporarily. Drink up with rich sauce lobster. |

12/15/2023 - Bonesetter Likes this wine: 90 pointsGreat medium bodied chardonnay. Pours clear, slight yellow tinge. Aromas of cashew, melon and struck match. On the palate, more melon, white peach and dried fig, held together with a gentle acidity. |
