The wine smells savory with butter and toast, but also butterscotch as well. On the palate, it is fresh with tons of citrus, lemon grapefruit, peach and vanilla. It's a little bitter and very acidic, I would like to see this in a year or two to see how it develops.

Nice blackcurrant fruit on opening but otherwise seems a bit simple. 90min decant and some a quite strong black licorice character and some other dried herbal notes evolved. Really nice powdery/dusty tannins create some linger.

This is evolving nicely. Citrus butter, a hint of lime with the merest hint of vanilla oak with nicely balanced acidity ( no sense of tartness) keeping this wine fresh. There is light to medium body and a clean finish. Very drinkable. It will be interesting if the suggestion on the back label to cellar it for up to ten years works.

This wine had medium body and medium tannins, the fruit was good but not great. The fruit subdued, some cherries and blackberries. Will try again but not ready to add to my cellar of Summer BBQ list.

V3. Solid Chardonnay with great nose of floral and new oak but finishes very lightly like most Aussie Chards. Two dinners at Qualia.

Fridge wine. Light oak, nice flinty flavour with a hint of butter and smoke. For the price of £12.50 this is pretty credible and decent. I will get some more.

The is a classic Grenache from McLaren Vale. Classic bouquet, feel and finish. It has a good number of years to go as well. I like it a lot.

This wine does everything one would ask it to do at the price. What is it that it does?

Well, it delivers a pleasing quaffer style that has the chief virtue for me of exhibiting no sign of grapefruit, despite my Torquemada like zeal for ferreting out this heresy in the Chardonnay body politic.

Aside for being pleased at what it doesn't have, I am also happy with some surprisingly ripe yellow peach (the label says white peach, but we will not deliver them to an auto de fe for that) and cantaloupe fruit, a light oak touch (I thinks some background vanilla supporting the peach fruit) and a hint of nougat. Intensity is pretty dashed good and length is fine, although intensity does fall off a little, but you would be a savage sort to call this short. Acidity is fresh.

This is a good wine but don't over rate it - equally don't dismiss it for its '2 buck chuck' price. Take it as it is. It is the 2nd Butler, or the shapely and somewhat educated maid. Horn city here we come.

I am a fuss pot in many things and with Chardonnay it seems I don't like grapefruit, but I also am not excited by oaky Chardonnay and I like a fairly fresh acidity. My preferred acidity level does take me closer to the point of the dread grapefruit but my fun zone is peach, perhaps some melon, ripe lemon is fine, some brioche or nougat, maybe a little caramel or butterscotch. Obvious vanilla or coconut is another form of heresy for me and the fires are started.

It's a bit embarrassing to admit to drinking this wine, it reflects a certain nostalgie de la boue, consorting with the servants, but there it is. Sometimes one just wants a certain kind of flavour experience and getting this from Oz Chardonnay these days is tricky as it is the full grapefruit from almost any Chardonnay with pretensions of grandeur, just as once it was fields of oak, 2 million percent malo, fat cantaloupe fruit and a sense of deep shame.

Guilty your honour, I will try to do better next time, but dash it sometimes I get an urge and then there is a servant looking fetching and before I know it my trousers are down again and you know the rest. It's their fault really.

Bright and fresh blackcurrant fruit up front followed by a strong cigar character and a lingering sweet vanilla. Creamy malo texture with grippy tannins. Not especially complex but clean and well made.

Lovely purple-ruby in the glass. Nose packs a beautiful blackberry-cassis punch. Taste - good structure, tannic, high acid blackcurrant flavours, still has plenty of time to go, no hurry.

Yellowing with age but no real noticeable change on pallete. Powerful wine, but just holds off from being too much. Citrus dominating with some almond and maybe tiny bit of stone fruit. It is descent.

Oatley trade Tasting (Campbell's store, Circular Quay West, The Rocks, Sydney): Sponti, green apple, citrus; touch of orange. Tangy, medium plus intensity acidity, more green apple on the palate, it's quite sharp, oddly a little alcohol warmth on the finish. Bone dry.

Oatley - Highlights of Curate Prestige Portfolio (Campbell's store, Circular Quay West, The Rocks, Sydney): Cream, cheesy, ripe stone fruit, a lot of oak and a fair amount of bacon fat - most in this bracket - and, under screwcap, this is considrably more youthful. Similar flavour profile, though the lees work lends richess it's still quite citrus crisp, lightly textured burr. Nose smells richer than the palate. Hmm.
