2016 Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée PrestigeRed Rhone Blend more |
5/8/2024 - VAGenius Likes this wine: 93 points45 minute decant - quite a bit of sediment. Nose of cherry, sandalwood, dark chocolate and a hint of smoked ham. Racy black cherry palate with lots of funky spice, kirsch, and dark chocolate along with traces of stones. Full-bodied tannins on the finish with black currant, cocoa, and oak. Nicely balanced wine. |

1/26/2024 - ylkim30 Does not like this wine: NRJanuary 2024 Northern Rhone Dinner: Definitely the red wines' “gobbiest” of the night (GOTN): laden with a heavy-handed dark fruit, a velvety, almost viscous texture, and slightly ponderous; I wouldn’t call it a bad wine, but not one I plan to revisit. |

3/23/2024 - SAP Likes this wine: 93 pointsDomaine Roger Sabon - Chateauneuf du Pape - Reserve 2018. Deep red in color. The nose is filled with dark, ripe red and black fruits in combination with some roasted meat. Some nice pepper! The mouth got some fine tanins and has a great richness. Overall medium bodied and at the moment (for me) in an perfect state ! |

3/13/2024 - bubbachumps wrote: 93 pointsBlack raspberry, red raspberry, minerals and some leather on a very complex nose. Well integrated on the palate. This is in a fantastic place and has some life ahead of it. Slight bricking on the edge but fruit still coming through and wonderful secondary characteristics. The was a steal for $39. Ready now and easily at peak for another few years. |

3/10/2024 - galewskj wrote: 93 pointsHigh/Low Blind Tasting III (Amy and Scott's house): Decanted about 1.5 hours. Full-bodied and attention-seeking, with flashy fruit and a hearty disposition. For CDP, this is balanced and drinking well, I hope it stays that way for a decade. Served blind alongside a simpler Rhone, all 11 tasters preferred this. |

Excellent showing and low that funk along with gravel, earth, spices, red berries, stone and tar. Just a unique profile and very nicely balanced. Could drink the whole bottle for sure. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

3/9/2024 - Lion's Share Likes this wine: 92 pointsRelative to the Beaucastel 2016 I tasted a few days ago, this is a lesser CDP. But it’s half the price so it definitely has value going for it. This is mostly grenache (80%), and very full bodied. Fruit and red licorice on the pretty nose. The palate is concentrated black fruit with elements of cocoa, loam and sanguine minerality. Medium finish. This will get better with further aging, but it’s very approachable right now. |

3/5/2024 - caesar77 Likes this wine: 93 pointsPnP. Inky purple w/ dark red edge in color. Nose of blackberries, granite, garrigue and a hint of saddle leather. On the palate: intense blackberry, cassis, baking spice and glints of black licorice. Plush tannins are just barely perceived on gums. Long finish of blackberries, vanilla, granite and subtle wood spice. Lost points due to intensity (as others called out), but this is still killer wine and good QPR. I've had multiple C-d-P's that are twice this price and not as enjoyable. |

Nice simple wine and at the price it's a nice entry-level example of CdP. I will drink up what I have left and move on..... |

1/30/2024 - Jeff Leve wrote: 95 pointsOne of the wines of the vintage opens with cinnamon, flowers, apples, kirsch and spice in the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is creamy, soft, and filled with sweet, ripe, round, cherries, black raspberries, and strawberry nuances. Vibrant, elegant, and open, the creamy textures, and freshness is a perfect fit for all of its red fruit. The wine is produced from 95% old vine Grenache with 5% coming from various, assorted, allowable grape varieties. Drink from 2025-2035. |
