From the wine list, Capital Grille, NYC. Decanted at the table, with just 20 minutes to breathe. Dusty ruby color. Nose was closed to me (but that may be allergy season.) Opened a bit as dinner progressed. Red fruit on the palate, maybe cherries and cranberry, along with herbs. Tannins in check, but oh, so young, it seemed. Paired with filet and bearnaise.

Agree with the last comment, the wine really opens up with an hour or so decanting. Réfection to grilled entrecôte of calf.

Opening party at Meyer. Tasted blind. Drank in Sydonios Meridional.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dusty Tuscan earth, dark red cherries, red plums. Developing.
On the palate, dry, dipping medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), smooth elegant high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of fine leather, dark red cherries, sour red cherries, red plum, savoury dusty Tuscan earth, fine spice. Long finish.
Very good quality. I was guessing high end Brunello. Lots of life ahead. Bottle hand carried back from Italy.

SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): A bunch of us got to talking last night about Biondi-Santi -- while the wines are always highly respectable and good, there's never been one that blows me away the way a Poggio di Sotto, Cerbaiona, or Soldera can. This definitely falls into that same bucket -- it's an impressive wine with a powerful, stern structure, but there's just a bit of charm lacking from this. It's powerful, weighty, and leathery, but it's missing that extra element of charm. Likely better in two decades.

SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): Yet another generous soul allowed me to check in on this without opening a bottle of my own (I write this every time I get to try this wine -- ha!). It's a wine of pure potential right now. Meaty and dense, with a Bordeaux-like stern structure that is quite unyielding at the moment. Leathery tannins, but firm enough that even a few hours couldn't soften the structure here. This will be much more interesting with at least a further decade.

SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): This was decanted quite a few hours before dinner, so if it actually was TCA on the bottle, it certainly had the opportunity to blossom. It didn't, but the nose smells what the nose smells, and the palate tastes what the palate tastes -- this was corked to me.

Absolutely incredible. Nice color.

Notes of cherry blossom.

Long finish, still very tannic.

I think this will be amazing in five years.

Bottle label was clean. Looks well cellared. Level at bottom neck. Capsule clean. Cork with no seepage. Full cork removed with my Durand.
Immediete bouquet of cherries noted. Initial taste of tight tannins and black cherries and raspberries. Let it oxygenate for 24 hours (as recommended by Franco Biondi-Santi) and has opened up into a delightful complex wine with berries, chocolate, and leather with a long finish. A wonderful wine again demonstrating how BS is for long cellaring
Glad I have a few more bottles

Perfect for Christmas dinner.
Gave it about 4 hours in the decanter.
Nose with dark and subtle cherries, meat, herbs, red earth, spices and dust.
Palate shows dark/black cherries, blood, iron, earth, spicy, clean and a very fine balance.
Very long and silky, with lots of fruit remaining.
