I'm a huge fan of Maroon wines. Their top of the line stuff is excellent. This was a huge disappointing mistake. It was decanted 6+ hours. I just don't understand how you can take grapes from the perfect '13 vintage and make this junk which is reminiscent of rubbing alcohol and a spoon of sugar added to it. Zero structure, no balance whatsoever and no finish at all - simply abysmal! I paid $20 for it - what I waste! Now I have 3 more bottles to give as "presents" to people who know nothing about wine.

2/3/2016 6:16:00 AM - I was going to ask whether there might be just a bad bottle. I have had good experience with Maroon, and reading your comment was a huge disappointment but a money saver. Thank you for posting and letting us know.

I am rating this a 92 ONLY because I can't believe how good my first one was, being consumed the day it arrived from a 3000 mile trip. I will wait (or try to do so) a few weeks to try another. If it is as "Bordeaux-like" as this one, I may rate it a 93 or more. This was mostly consumed along with a '98 Bordeaux and a 2000 Brunello at a BYOB great Italian restaurant, then topped w/Argon and re-corked and finished the next day. The nose was fruit-filled on day 2 and on the palate it was still characteristic of a well-made Bordeaux blend which would have likely cost 2-4 times as much. I have ordered more at $13.

Dark ruby color. Full body in the glass. The nose of red current, cassis, dark chocolate, and dried plums. Silky smooth tannins, deep and flavorful mouth feel. Good length. The wine is in its prime. Delicious!

2/19/2013 3:19:00 AM - I did pour it through a Venturi into a decanter. Drank it 1.5-2 hours later. There is some wine left for the second day, so we'll see how it holds up.

2/19/2013 7:32:00 PM - 2nd day the wine has mellowed. The fruit is still there, but the aroma naturally is less fruity and a bit more plums, cocoa, and cedar. Not bad but fading. 90+

Pale yellow in the glass with a hint of green, the nose is delicious sugared grapefruit, with nice florals, lemon grass, and a touch of pineapple. The palate echos those flavors with more emphasis on the lemon, but the herbal note is still prominent. It starts almost relaxed and rounded and a shade sweet, but the mid-palate shows a good acidic structure that easily balances. The finish is long and emphasizes the herbal quality, showing a pleasant bit of lemon pith bitterness. There is no trace of petrol or oil, here, and even the minerality is just sort of hinted at. But the fruit is pure and the wine is delicious from start to finish. I took pretty much a blind flier on this, and I'm very glad I did. This is very enjoyable and a clear win for $18.
