Leoville las Cases vertical 1961-2009 (March 2023); 12/28/2023-12/31/2023: Shy and surprisingly youthful nose but then it deepens and then fades after a while. Dry but fruit still left. High acidity and melted tannin. Long finish and very impressive given 60 years of age.

Great Chardonnay. Caramelized pineapple nose. Light mineral taste with all the good Chardonnay flavours. Still very young. 2.5 years old. Light melon , lemon and stone fruit flavours.

Tried 2016 (first coravined 6m ago) and 2017 samples from half bottles next to each other. The 2017 is more ripe and gives more oak impression than 2016. 2017 has more of floral and violet notes. Both exude a lovely fruit aroma, the 2016 a bit more of sour cherries initially but after 1h in the glass they come across as pretty similar. Both are gorgeous wines with smooth silky tannins, with uplifting and precise acidity and delicious blackberry, blueberry fruit (the 2017 has hints of dark raspberry as well). Impeccable balance both of them. Alcohol levels are 13% and 14% respectively and that difference is felt as the 2017 comes across with some heat. Obviously too young but these wines are just fascinating right now as well. 95-97 range.

3/2/2021 4:14:00 AM - havent tried 18 as it hasn't been released or rather delivered yet. the 2015 I remember as more backward , and I think also that is what the experts say. Again my own note from 2015 stressed more patience so that would appear to confirm the backwardness. Great wines all of them though!

Kept as an experiment (how long will a base-level CdR last ?). A somewhat tired garnet-purple colour. Nose of prune/fig/dried blackberry, leather, some liquorice, faded white pepper. Medium to medium-full body; seems to be coming apart: some tannin, a middle of red fruitswith some acidity, a back end of dry leather. No more than a year left.

2018 Bordeaux tasting event (Stockholm): Lots of deep dark fruit, cassis, sour cherries, licorice, grass, spices i.e. very much more complex nose than most. Perfectly pitched with great balance and with brilliant prospects. 97-98p

Dark fruit with maturity. Spicy, dark plums, good acidity level, fine tannin and a nice balanced finish. Fails to arouse any large dose of energy though. Very good overall.

Tapped with a Coravin and left in the decanter for 4 hours. Very nice aromas of dark fruit, cedar, some oak but also a decent amount of green pepper. Very silky and elegant in the mouth again with the greenness coming through. However it's not of the overwhelming sort but rather more to give a freshness impression. Very good fininsh with medium length. Early drinker given the very silky tannin?

6/1/2019 10:29:00 AM - I recently opened a bunch, 10-12 Coravined bottles (see my notes from Feb-19, some of these have Coravin comments) and these were first tapped as long ago as 4 years. The majority was tried several times and most of them first time more than a year ago. Overall the tasting group and I all agreed that the result was surprisingly good. None of the wines were bad, most of them were as good as before and maybe one or two slightly worse but on the other hand some of them were quite young and had almost improved from first try. So I would argue the coravin actually does what it promises. Mind you, for very old bottles, say 15 years plus I would tend to agree with you, most of all because the bottle sediment gets disturbed. For younger wines I still think my positive experience is valid. Try again and see what you think...

Another fantastic bottle of the '67 Moccagatta. Last tried this on Jan 2015 and this continues to show the same elegance and life as before. Dried roses, violets, and a good “pinosity” note on the nose. The intensity of the nose held strong for the entire time the wine was in the glass. The notes on the palate were just as elegant as the ones on the nose – extremely classy Nebbiolo. Perfectly well balanced structure.

Once again a wine we don't understand the hype and generally don't get as a wine. Way too ripe, too much oak, chocolate and so one. 87-88 at bets for us. Maybe we need to try an old well aged one to see if it softens up but so far no luck. 88?

Have a look at my note from March this year on the 1998 where a group of rather experienced tasters got all of their preconceptions about new world wines and Sena in particular wrong!

12/3/2017 9:39:00 AM - Nice to see that someone else also made a vertical of this wine. Did one myself a while ago but I can see that my notes from 2000 and 2007 went missing. Have a look at our notes if you haven't. Overall I was slightly disappointed except for the fantastic 1989 and one of the takeaways was that these wines needed a lot of time. Maybe the more recent vintages will come around earlier..

From a sample at Hedonist wines.
A bit closed nose, very primary fruit of blueberries and black currants with some smoky bacon hints. Wonderful balance and elegance with precise acidity, fine tannin and fruit in a beautiful mix. A profound wine, can’t find any flaws! Best Syrah I have yet come across. 97-98p

12/27/2016 12:39:00 AM - This was from an Enomatic machine at Hedonism wines in London. I would have though some slippage of air into it would represent some kind of decant but I have no idea how long that bottle had been in the machine. I have not come across any real bad examples from these machines so I would think they preserve it really well. I have a Coravin at home and I would have thought that also lets some fractions of oxygen gets passed into the bottle as normally I find the bottles ever so slightly different when resampling or opening them later on. What I mean is that the Coravin also represents some sort of aeration.
I have the odd bottle of Chave's Hermitage myself but so far they are much to young to be touched. However, very much looking forward to tasting the Chave wines again!

Underbar ren fin frukt, rosor, apelsinskal. tobak och tjära. Ren fin syra, underbara tanniner.

G. Mascarello Monprivato vertical. '82, '89, '00, '01 and '07.

Clear, pale intensity, garnet color.

Clean, floral, complex and elegant nose with developing aromas of dried and fresh cherry, strawberry, violet, rose petal, rose hip, menthol, licorice, sandal wood, sotto bosco and exclusive balsamic vinegar.

Dry, medium bodied with a medium(+) acidity and smooth medium(+) tannins that still has a lot of grip to them. Pronounced flavor intensity with that same elegant floral perfume that I got on the nose. Cherry, cherry blossom, bitter orange, violet, rose and sotto bosco. The finish is really long.

This is truly a great Barolo! It was WOTN for almost everyone at the tasting. It shows classic Barolo aromas with a terrific balance and intensity. Classy and just lovely. A pleasure to drink today and will keep for at least 3-5 years.
