Absolutely singing right now - probably the first 2005 Bordeaux I've had that is not as hard as nails. This ticks all the St Julien cliches, and has the depth of fruit from 2005 to beef out its frame a touch. Beautiful balance, compact and showing some evolution. Lacks a bit of depth on the finish, but that is just nitpicking. Excellent right now. Good value.

My first '05 Bdx. Like others mention, it takes a lot of airtime to balance out. I gave it overnight because it was just very tannic and aggressive for several hours. 2nd day is much nicer. Very dark purple, almost 100% opaque. Medium intense nose is full of currant, perfume, light oak, and alcohol. Big body and mouthfeel with a nice balance of ripe fruit and smoky oak but again, the (14.5%!) alcohol feels more Paso than Euro. There is some delicacy and nuance with a hint of unique terroir, but I don't find much to call "French" about it. I'm sure it will improve with a little more time but I don't think it will ever turn on the little light in my head that makes me think, "Wow, this is what '05 Bdx is all about" (5+10+16+7) = 88

    5/3/2010 4:13:00 PM - Nice note Bob. I had the 03 at a tasting a couple weeks ago and found it to be similarly styled. I think they are just more new world than most Bordeaux. Not bad, but like you said, there is nothing particularly "French" about it.

I'm new to this wine, but here is a comparison. The store had another year, maybe the 2001,

at about $45 and to me they tasted about the same, only this one tastes younger, and not as smooth

so if you like this label I would give this a try.

The current internet prices on other years for this wine run from $60 to $100.

This is a pretty simple Chianti Classico. I was certainly expecting more given the price in comparison to the 06 Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva, which is only $4 more but much better. This wine shows mostly just simple grape juice notes all around. Decent enough and food friendly but for $19, I would really like more out of it.

This is very flat with no structure, even watered down. The finish is completely missing. not a good wine. This was last on everyone's list of favorites for the entire night. It was not corked.

    3/7/2010 2:29:00 PM - Hey Brig, How did the cork look on this one, do remember? If it was soaked through there might be a chance that it was Oxidized. Bummer because not that I have ton of experience with Silver Oak, but in my experience, they are the epitome of the big CA cab style so for it to show so flat and water seems like a contradiction in terms. ;-)
