2019 Brassfield Estate Winery Cabernet SauvignonHigh Valley more |
3/24/2024 - TortsLovr wrote: 74 pointsI am drinking this cooled. Left in the fridge over night. Put in counter for a bit to warm up. Tastes more sour today, still drinkable but not as smooth as it was originally. Lot of texture on the tongue. Taste more minerality. Can still smell a bit of fruit but also smells a bit more like wine |

3/23/2024 - TortsLovr Likes this wine: 90 pointsVery easy to drink. Fruity at beginning of sip, is very smooth and don’t get any bite from alcohol. The smell is not as fruity and yummy as I like but it doesn’t smell bad. Consider this a nice, easy drinking, cab to have on hand. Will buy again |

2016 Brassfield Estate Winery Cabernet Sauvignon ReserveHigh Valley more |
12/30/2023 - elevwine Likes this wine: 90 pointsI have long been a fan of Brassfield’s Eruption, so took a flyer on their Cab Reserve. Medium bodied, highly perfumed at PNP with floral and lavender notes. Red and blue fruits, a bit more acidity than most CA cabs. Don’t expect a big-shouldered cab, but still very enjoyable. |

2002 Brassfield Estate Winery Syrah High Valleymore |
11/30/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsA superb example of how California can make Syrah that is a good ringer for dark, rich, well structured, elegant, and ageworthy Northern Rhone Syrah. The key that Brassfield uses is to plant the grape vines into mountainous vineyards 1,800 high that are much cooler than the valleys and have volcanic soil. This 16 year old wine is opaque to the edge in a half inch pour and has high acidity that is lively and refreshing, firm drying tannin, concentrated blackberry and blueberry fruit, all of which is powerful, mouth coating, integrated, and long lasting. |

2003 Brassfield Estate Winery Merlot High Serenity RanchHigh Valley more |
3/5/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 92 pointsThis Merlot marries Bordeaux structure to rich California fruit. Very dark ruby with a lighter red edge but no brick. Nice fruity aromas of black cherry and plum. The sip starts with refreshing acidity and ample fruit, then quickly shifts to firm and drying tannin that still leaves the mouth juicy rather than stripped. The swallow integrates the fruit, acid, and tannin in a long finish that shows some roundness. Overall, very enjoyable without achieving a velvet texture, which is likely to develop with a few more years of age. The grapes come from a single vineyard 1,800 feet high. |

12/1/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 91 pointsAlmost opaque, with a slight brick around the edge. Strong black currant smell. The mouth adds vivid blackberry, brisk tannin, and bright acidity, with zero sweetness and an aged smoothness. For a California wine, unusually close to a well structured and self cleaning Old World Bordeaux, showcasing the difference a high altitude cooler climate can make. |

12/5/2022 - arperrymd Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis is my last of six bottles. It's definitely time to drink now. Previous bottles required decanting. This bottle was ready upon opening. Dark purple juice. Very dense and chewy. Tannins are not overpowering. On day 1, it was very fruit forward with blackberries and boysenberries. There were subtle peppery and green pepper notes. Today, on day 2, the fruits are muted, giving way to a more savory palate. Peppery spice predominate, while the green pepper has given way to cocoa notes. For the sake of research, I'll save a bit for tomorrow. However, I suspect that the remainder should be imbibed promptly. |
