Grapefruit, lemons chiffon, lime zest, Bartlett pear, pineapple juice, lighter tropical melons, toasted nuts, gritty chalkiness, alluvial limestone, volcanics, yeasty, brioche, white spice, yellow followers/lillies, touch of spring flowers, excellent round acidity with a balanced, nice strutured and rich, polished finish that lasts a minute. This is effectively a 2001 harvest, aged 6 years on the lees, then disgorged in late 2007. Cellared from release. Medium to dark golden in color. Fine bubbles stick to glass, but pearlage mostly escaped by now. Caramel and spice on the nose. Beautifully vibrant and zesty on the palate - wonderfully rich and broad across the mouth. I should have bought more than just a couple! Paul Dethune champagnes are quickly becoming a favorite of mine. This cuvée is 50/50 (Pinot noir/chard), with 30% coming from their Solera dating back to the 70s. I’ve said that I feel Petit & Bajan are the equivalent of Bollinger Special Cuvée in grower form, but I stand corrected. THIS is Bolly SC with a grower champagne vibe. Gold in the glass. Aromatics of lemon cream, lemon croissant, golden raspberries, and honeycomb. On the palate, it has the toasted Bolly profile but it’s dialed back a touch…feels more focused. Less expansive, but there’s added power here. Beautifully balanced with the sweet (the fruit, not the dosage) and savory (honey roasted cashews, sea salt). Imagine Bolly SC and a CHeidsieck Blanc de Blanc…you’ve got this. Loved it. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comment

Med-full bodied and quite powerful with lots of toasted brioche and toasted hazel and walnuts. Also, navel orange and some salinity. Drink now-2028 Day 2: This has opened and the toasty/roasty character has calmed down to reveal (still toasted brioche and roasted hazelnut) more lemon curd, brightness and freshness. That said, it's still a bit on the roasty side with less fruit than I'd like. Perhaps it just needs a year or three to soften and open. But this was a screamer. Incredibly complex and quaffable. Equal parts nutty brioche and creamy lemon. Even a sneaking note of strawberry cream in there (probably carried by the dosage). Just lovely. Red apple and some mild autolytic biscuit on the nose. Palette shows more ripe stewed apple, strong acidity, little bit of lemon zest.
