10/21/2021 - jkvedar Likes this wine: 89 pointsReally struggling to come up with descriptors for this wine. First of all I had chilled it so it was very neutral on nose and palate on opening. But even after 45 minutes of air and rising to room temp, it is very pleasant, but just non-descript. Some citrus peel on the nose. I don’t get any white pepper. Some white flowers. I can see why this is often confused with Albariño and Pinot Gris. Also, saved this bottle for a veggie-intensive meal and it paired well, but I think other whites would have done as well - white Bordeaux, new-world Sauvignon Blanc. None of this is a criticism, just my initial foray into the world of Gruber. Beautiful on the palate and finish. |

Green apple dominates the palate at first, but there are also notes of pear, peach, and lemon (Ellen says it reminds her of an autumn field with smells of ripe fruit that has fallen to the ground and has been passed over). Nice mineral finish. Delicious. |

5/7/2017 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 88 pointsI like it when a wine is to the point, focused and has clarity of purpose. This GV is precisely that. Crisp and dry, cool and mineral, linear and energetic, white pepper, aromatic green herbs, ripe citrus and pear fruit, clean and with a lovely drive, tight but juicy, good resonance and length. Very nice wine, good value. |

10/26/2016 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 87 pointsCool and herbaceous nose, white pepper, touch of yellow fruit, good varietal typicity, but still quite closed; crisp and mineral palate, light to medium body (12.5%), nice stuffing of ripe and juicy fruit, clean flavours; lovely finish, complete and long. Already quite attractive but will improve with another 6-12 months in bottle. Good value. |

11/3/2012 - forceberry wrote: 91 pointsPale green color with lemon yellow highlights. Rich, open nose with aromas of juicy pear, some green and yellow apple, a little lemony citrus fruit and nice undertones of white pepper spice and stony minerality. Very focused, bright and structured palate with light-to-medium body. Vibrant, intense and almost bone dry flavors of ripe pear, some tropical fruits, a little apple purée and a nice, robust undercurrent of white pepper spice. The wine is quite high in acidity and gets support from the slightest touch of spritz, that blows away with some air time. Long, bright and acid-driven finish with flavors of tart, lemony citrus fruit, quinine bitterness, some white pepper and a hint of sweeter apple. |

9/21/2016 - NiklasW wrote: 88 pointsCracked and poured at fridge temp. This is a great example of Grüner Veltliner, nice green apples on the nose with a touch of minerality, with that telltale melony smell in the background. On the palate this shows nice yellow fruit, touch of passionfruit, with good acidity. This is about the only wine I miss since moving to Sweden, had to get a couple of bottles from Alko in Finland when there in the summer! |

8/9/2015 - NiklasW wrote: 88 pointsCracked and poured at fridge temp. My favourite white from Alko and this is the new vintage. Quite a ripe one, tropical fruits with good green apples on the nose. Quite rich on the palate as well, but with good acidity and a tiny bit of spritziness. A winner from the lower shelves of Alko! |

6/6/2014 - NiklasW wrote: 87 pointsCracked and poured at fridge temp. Quite rich apple, sweet on the nose, a bit surprising, earlier vintages have been bone dry. The sweetness follows through on the palate, but fresh apple as well, good acidity. Actually very tasty and enjoyable, just not what I was expecting. This one is not a keeper, but a quick drinker, summer of 2014 wine. |

Good acidity with fresh citrus to make this a joy to drink. This will be an excellent summer wine for this year, I will get a few for the (hopefully) hot days to come. |
