Two weeks in France; 4/12/2024-4/24/2024: Off the list at La Grillade Gourmande. Disgorged March 2022, 3g/l dosage. Yeasty and brioche notes on the nose, showed the weight and warm, supple fruit of 2012 that made it a delicious drink. Well-balanced.

Moderate golden in the glass. Complexity and pronounced expression on the nose - tropical/stone fruit combining nicely with secondary notes. Palate is zippy, lean, showing some firm structure and a long finish. I feel this needs a bit of time in the bottle to open up more.

Moderate lemon in the glass. Subtle nose of yellow and green apple, guava, some white flowers. Nice chunk of secondary notes as well. Light-bodied, zippy acidity, very soft mousse. Really well-made Champers, but definitely not as in-your-face style as you'd get from a Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. This is pure elegance.

Moderate golden in the glass. Somewhat ripe nose with notes of amalfi lemon, cantaloupe, green melon. There is that yeasty-bready note as well. Rounded on the palate with a zippy, nicely integrated acidity. Medium-bodied. Good, but there are better value Champers out there for sure.

Moderate golden in the glass. A nose that is marked with fresh stone fruit, a bit of guava and cantaloupe, together with some strong bready notes as well. Palate is round with medium (+) acidity, tasting much sweeter than I anticipated. Good complexity all around, but not heavenly in any sense, especially for grand cru status.

Oh lord. Damn this is perfection! Too bad; Last bottle down and these could (should) have easily lasted for years. Peaking.... somewhen in a distant future.

Disclaimer: We sell A. Bergère champagnes.

Côte de Blancs baby! Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger et Mesnil-sur-Oger.
100% Chardonnay, some in oak barrique. Unfiltered.
Base vintage: 2021
Dosage: 3 g/l

This is a quintessential BdB: the nose is chalk and preserved lemon. The palate is all minerality and bright citrus with a clear linear acidic line running through it. But it never feels simple. It has focus but concentration and great length on crushed chalk and lemon. I really love this.

From a double magnum. The wine is composed of Chardonnay (70%), Pinot Noir (20%) and Pinot Meunier (10%) from the communes Fèrebrianges, Etoges and Congy and it is based on the 2018 vintage (70%) supported by a selection of older reserve wines (30%). A portion of the wines is aged in 228-liter oak pièces. Disgorged on 15th of January, 2021. 12% alcohol, dosage 7 g/l.

Intense and quite youthful yellow-green color. The nose feels youthful, expressive and somewhat reductive - even slightly flatulent - with aromas of ripe red apple, some leesy notes of yeast, a little bit of skunky reduction, light autolytic notes of toasted bread, a hint of pomelo and a mineral touch of wet rocks. The wine feels pretty dry and focused on the palate with a medium body and youthful flavors of mealy red apple, some zesty notes of citrus fruits, a little bit of stony minerality, light sweeter notes of juicy yellow fruits, a leesy hint of creaminess and a touch of chalky bitterness. The mousse feels smooth, gentle and creamy and the acidity comes across as pretty high and racy. The finish is dry, crunchy and quite intense with a moderately long, palate-cleansing aftertaste of ripe citrus fruits and pithy grapefruit bitterness, some mineral notes of wet rocks and chalk dust,a little bit of mealy red apple, a leesy hint of creaminess and a touch of skunky reduction.

A nice, refreshing and palate-cleansing little Champagne. Still super young and quite nervous in overall character. The wine probably calls for many more years of aging to blow off its reduction - or if opened now, needs to be aerated for quite some time. Enjoyable stuff with some upside, but ultimately nothing too thrilling.

I’m surprised by the community scores on this wine. It was excellent, with load of complexity and some nice layering that you won’t find in much else around the price.

Super aromatic on the nose. Lots of apple cider (both a fresh cider plus a little oxidative note there too) and honey stand out. On the palette tons of acidic energy with nicely concentrated and tart lemons and limes, with those same apple cider and honey notes layered beneath. The wine has tremendous texture that really elevates it for me, and makes its $60 price tag feel like a solid bargain. I may be picking up a few more of these and trying other wines from A. Bergere.

A. Bergere produces this blanc de blanc solera going back to the 2013 vintage. Aged in 228L barrels with base 2020 vintage. Unfiltered and 3g/l dosage.

Not a champagne expert at all, so hard to score. Definitely preferred over the major producers. Light golden color, smooth, not overly carbonated. Drank with very fresh sushi. Picked this up last year in France.

Nice together with Peking duck and sticky shrimp dumplings. Compared to a NV Pol Roger I would say the PR does it a bit better. But this is far more enjoyable than some silly Moet...

From a 375ml bottle. On the nose subtle toasty aromas. Medium bodied, dry, crisp and refreshing, delivering subtle tart apple and toast with good firm acidity and nice mousse/bubbles. Felt rather clean and poised. Solid basic champagne.

Personally, I think this could drop a few grams of sugar. Also, some cellaring would do it good. Other than that, this was a fine Champagne. Solera 13-18, forgot to check the deg date sadly.

Citrus nose. Very lively effervescence.

Fresh and tense mouth, vaguely meringue. Simple construction, it lacks character. Balanced wine, fairly anonymous finish.

Kind of champagne that you quickly forget.

Should be a 2014 vintage. Disgorged October 2017.

Greenish hue. Citrus, lime, stone fruits and butter in nose - you can even already feel the acidity and dryness here.
Taste of grapefruit, lime, peach and a little mineral. Very, very acidic/dry which is kind of a bummer, because it gets way too overpowering and the balance is off.

Still a nice bottle but rather disappointed when it's in a higher price category.

Deg 02/18. (Label says Extra-brut, but is perceived more as a Brut in mouth.)
