Showing very well today, youthful and energetic but open for business, with marvellous Amarena cherry fruit and orange zest, spices and a hint of liquorice; clear and bright style, excellent balance and freshness, elegant weight (13.5% ABV) and structure with a lovely charge of sandy tannins, outstanding length. Classic Monforte Barolo. Bravo. |

12/23/2023 - salil wrote: 94 pointsShows a bit more mature than I may have expected from a Barolo at this age, but wow is this good. Spectacular aromatics - rose petals, high-toned herbal notes, mushrooms, more savoury tarry and notes, and a core of bright red and dark fruited flavours beneath. The tannin here is quite fine grained and barely noticeable (though we were having this with a very rich meat ragu and pasta that needed acid and tannin to accompany it), and it's drinking wonderfully right now. A producer I definitely need to explore more. |

11/21/2023 - Rezy13 Likes this wine: NRTuesday Night Double Blind $60+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): See through crimson with orange in rim; lifted, a little clay and dust, effusive nose, complex, sour cherry, a little burnt orange, roses, floral; acidic and structured but not hard, orange zest, like the elegant feel to it even though there is a dusty firm tannin and acid spine; not in a bad place, doesn't lead with oak, classy and very good; Serralunga? |

1/19/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 92 pointsFirst time this wine has shown a brown tinge in the color and a slight whiff of butterscotch, both of which suggest some oxidation. But the mouth shows a good balance of red and black cherry fruit, a softened texture, rounded and drying tannin, and bright acidity. Overall, the wine is enjoyable by itself, and proved to be very good with most foods, including working surprisingly well with a spicy soup. |

7/15/2017 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsA fine example of how an aged Barolo becomes more enjoyable. Very dark red for a Barolo, just short of opaque. At 14 years old, has definitely improved. Nothing lean or harsh in the nose. The mouth entry is now smooth, openly fruity, and coating, versus grippy, astringent, and tightly wound. Much more texture and glide in the taste. Overall, the best this wine has ever been. Enjoyable now with food and by itself, but can be readily kept for at least 5 more years. |

12/11/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsAn excellent example of how a Barolo benefits from 18 years of bottle age, that takes off the astringent tannic edge, making the wine more rounded, better integrated, soothing, and lets the fine red cherry and red plum fruit finally shine. Likely as good as this wine will ever get, but will remain eminently drinkable for at least another 5 years. |

2/26/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsThis 20 year old Barolo was described by only one person as at least 10 years old when served blind to a table of experienced wine drinkers. An inch pour in the glass shows surprising darkness with only a lighter red around the edge. The aromas include nut, mushroom, dried cherry, and European licorice. A sip coats the entire mouth with well integrated flavors of sour pie cherry, rounded but still drying tannin, and softened but still bright acidity. The long finish is resolutely dry yet deliciously fruity. |

12/1/2023 - sleepyhaus wrote: NRReally good Langhe Nebbiolo. Opens up with a hint of fruity bubblegum, but just a hint and then it's gone. After that it remains a fresh and fruit-forward young LN, but with a spine behind the fruit. As a fan of their Barolos, there is a definite family resemblance. This is really lovely. I've been of the opinion that many producers make LN which are well worth the time these days, as opposed to a decade or so ago when most were simply pale shadows of the grander wines. Warmer vintages and better viticulture now allow for really good entry level wines, especially in good vintages. They tend to fall into the fresh and forward category or the "baby Barolo (or Barbaresco)" category. This one straddles the line; forward but with a serious side. That may also reflect the 2021 vintage, reportedly a Goldilocks vintage in the Langhe. Good stuff. |

11/22/2023 - SommKennedy Likes this wine: NRDrank over the course of a couple hours. Opened an hour before first service but not decanted. Developing well, medium body with dusty red cherry fruit and a fair bit of grip still. Good acidity. Safe to hold if you like your wines more squarely secondary or edging towards tertiary, but drinking well now. |

11/18/2023 - AlphaMikeFoxtrot Likes this wine: 92 pointsPine needles, juniper berries, plastic, cooked red fruits - red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, cinnamon and allspice. The fruits are ALMOST stewed, but too young to show that condition on the nose. A little reductive. Medium + intensity of aromas. It smells "wintery" and "outdoorsy". There are hints of VA and reductivity on this, but both add to this rather than detract. It smells older than it is, in a good way. I think it's really going to be interesting in a couple of years when it's in its drinking window. |

Discretely sweet red fruit without any heat, some tobacco in the background, excellent acidity, a light sprinkling of soil, and just a little remaining tannin. Delightful, flowing, and very easy to enjoy now, but it has the balance to last several more years. Much better than the last time I had it a year ago when it was headier and felt more ripe and alcoholic. |

Consumed with a 2006 Dujac Echezeaux and Prevost Beguines, this held its own amongst classy company, standing out for its structure but also its bright and bold cherry fruit. Great length. Drinking well young but I'll likely leave the other bottles for maturity. |
