Nose of cranberry, bubblegum, strawberry candy, a bit of smoke, white pepper, Band-Aid, raw mushroom, raspberry. On first blush, pretty simple on the palate. Hits you all at once, good acidity, very smooth, lingering barnyard on the palate. As the bottle breathes, the barnyard dissipates and the flavor becomes more savory, with more warm oak spice, and less juicy. There is a slight and unmistakable vomit off-note on the finish, and while that’s not a dealbreaker, this does knock a point off on an otherwise interesting and very complex Pinot (and yet I'm still giving this a 90, tells you how good the rest is). |

Expected more oak on the palate - missed a little bit of power to complete with the assorted cheese platter. Pretty fruity nose. Shows much more variance solo. But still a good cheese match. Will pick a Chardonnay with more wood next time. Good! |

The palate is a real shocker, dry and bracing and lemony (expected) with a strong note of almond macaroon (definitely not expected), as well as smoke, perhaps even smoked meats, and a slight medicinal/mace note, alongside the expected lemon and lime. Furthermore, as the glass develops, more savory notes come in, like eating a vol-au-vent. This gets serious bonus points for originality. How good would this be with a bowl of mixed nuts or a bubbling fondue? |
