At the suggestion of Food and Wine, I had this paired with an asian marinade pork roast (bone in) - orange, ginger, mirin, soy. It was a very nice match - light and bright to let the citrus and ginger flavors of the pork come through (BTW - it's a great recipe and will have many useful leftovers, including stir frying slices or reheating the rib). It's inexpensive too. It wouldn't be any every day wine for me - I am too much a fan of pinot and a little more body, but for this food it was just right.

appearance: clear, mid to deep gold
nose: subtle aromas: lemon, peach pe
palate: medium+ acidity; medium bodied, very balanced, slightly waxy phenolics; very good length; lemon, some zest.

Very pleasant, restrained wine.

Served slightly chilled it has ruby red color, clear, slight hint of rose to the nose. Body is light with clear acid and medium tannins. Fruit is subdued. Ok finish. Worked well with bruschetta and tomatoes.

The nose was dark yet restrained, showing minerals, dried strawberry and dark wood tones. I found silky textures on the palate, with incredibly dark red fruit, spices, a sweet tea note and fine tannin. The finish was medium in length, dark and structured with saturating tannin.

This is a new grape for me, Sicily's Nerello Mascalese, and comparisons to Gamay are certainly apt. It's remarkably light in colour and body -- lighter than, say, Ontario Gamay; more along the lines of a young Beaujolais -- but the aromas are quite dense with strawberry, raspberry, cherry, earth, baking spice, and black pepper, with notions of florality and some smokiness hovering about. That's all quite good, and the production allows the varietal to speak for itself without the weight of wood or artifice, but there's a basic roughness to it that comes through on the palate, especially with the fruit thinning out. But what's more distinct on the palate is the electric acidity. I'm not sure if it's the wine's volcanic origins (Mount Etna), but there's a whole lot of verve here, the acidity making it feel so alive. But there's too much acidity (which makes this a nice refresher with food but not so much a pleasant sipper on its own), and I think this could use some extra time to calm down, maybe 1-2 years. Still, an interesting diversion at the very least.

Medium-bodied with moderate acidity and tight and firm tannins. A bit out of balance.

89/90. Hints of floral stuff on the nose, some salinity. A bit closed? A little citrus, green almonds, and salinity on the palate. This will be better later, and could even last a bit, seems to me. A wine made for salty/briny seafood dishes.

Very slightly corked...not even corked enough to create a good educational moment with the friends we had over. A couple of people who had some wine experience said they could just detect it but only after it was mentioned, and most either couldn't detect it or didn't mind. Aside from that, the wine seemed consistent with my 5/12/2015 impressions.

Same notes as prior with a little bit more minerality, crushed slate and hint of smoke coming through on this. Excellent Rose.

One glass consumed over ~45 minutes, warming from fridge temp to room temp. I was struck by how bright red this was in the glass, looking like liquid candy. The nose showed ripe strawberries and bright cherries, with floral notes also adding to the mix. This was drier on the palate than expected from the nose, with an edge of cranberry acidity, and I think Dbunk's mention of hibiscus is a good one as well. Medium-bodied, and very enjoyable.

Went very well with the meal, which was sautéed Brussels and cauliflower with sun-dried tomatoes. The relatively high acid level of this and other Mt. Etna wines make them a good match to such hearty vegetable faire. Overall good balance and smooth finish.

Most complex Rose I've ever had with more weight, body, and structure than I'd expect. Crushed stones, rose water, hibiscus with ripe raspberries. Enticing acid through the finish keeps you drinking and drinking.
