2019 Côtiére Pinot Noir La Rinconada VineyardSta. Rita Hills more |
9/21/2023 - air guitar & pinot noir Likes this wine: 93 pointsLovely Pinot with bright red fruit. Cherry flavors and Jolly Rancher cherry in color. Medium to lighter weight. Elegant without sacrificing flavor or any complexity. Just a beautiful wine. Have long enjoyed this vineyard source as Justin W. of Tyler makes great wines from here. Cotiere’s take is a great representation and a worthy Pinot all the way around. |

4/21/2023 - Joanmac Likes this wine: NRThe 2020 Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay is a blend of the La Rinconada and Sanford & Benedict Vineyards. These two vineyards are uniquely located on the cool western edges of this appellation. La Rinconada and Sanford & Benedict Vineyards enjoys a touch more afternoon warmth in clay and alluvium based soils. |

1/30/2023 - air guitar & pinot noir Likes this wine: 92 pointsSimilar to prior note. Overall enjoyable but needed to open up in the glass to demonstrate best qualities. Muted dark fruit bit reticent overall. A bit surprising given this is such a stellar vineyard source. There is nothing wrong with this wine, but in the prior note I indicated the Sta Rita Hills effort was much more compelling. |

12/18/2022 - air guitar & pinot noir Likes this wine: 92 pointsI was very perplexed by this wine as I made a repurchase after enjoying it earlier in the year. What I discovered was that my earlier purchase was the Cotiere Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. I enjoyed this wine but not nearly as much as the appellation offering. It was a bit straightforward and not nearly as lively as the prior wine. Certainly this is a premiere vineyard site without question. I would also say on day two this was a shadow of the initial day’s experience. |

11/11/2022 - air guitar & pinot noir Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is a very interesting and intriguing Pinot. Medium bodied but with a fascinating mixture of flavors and aromas. A veritable cornucopia of unique and intermingled emerging and retreating flavor components. It dances in and out with various tastes. It contrasts with the lighter body of the wine. Definitely is not overbearing or over extracted. It seemed to dissipate over the course of the bottle and becomes a bit more linear at the end. |

2016 Côtiére Chardonnay Talley Rincon VineyardArroyo Grande Valley more |
7/14/2021 - sfwinelover1 Likes this wine: 94 pointsRecent one off ($29.99) from the big box wine store. I'm going to be lazy--which I never am on CT!--and cross-reference a TN I did for this winery's Rinconada chard on 3/14/21 (you'll have no trouble finding it; it's the only TN!) because this bottling is so similar in terms of TNs, balance and compositional features. While I'd love to have the 2 side by side to see how they differ, I, alas, just have the Talley today, so I'll say that this is superbly balanced, with stone fruits, apples and pears, the slightest bit of tropical fruit, all braced powerfully by tart citrus notes and an overall wonderful saline, savory feeling that perfectly balances the slightly sweet fruit. Again, equally terrific as a standalone and as a complement to chicken and fish, good on the PnP, but probably better after about an hour of air. And like the Rinconada, just as good on day 4 as out of the bottle. This is the second terrific chard bottling from this obscure house, both reasonably priced. Interesting contrast with the Duckhorn, a really enjoyable, easy wine, but without much depth or backbone; if you have both, serve this to your discerning friends. Or better yet, just keep it for yourself. Just don't let the word out on these guys. 2016 also continues to impress, and this is likely to last quite a while, more likely to even get better than drop off any time soon. 93-94+ |

3/14/2021 - sfwinelover1 Likes this wine: 94 pointsRecent one off ($25.99) from the big box wine store. On the nose and palate, sweet apples and pears, rocky minerality, white florals, light vanilla and oak and a pleasing, tart citric tang on the back end. Medium yellow gold, medium to full bodied, thick legs. Powerful acidity, no heat. Good complexity, very good+ intensity and persistence. I'd never heard of this winery, let alone this bottling, but 3 mid 90s pro scores at a very reasonable price piqued my interest, and this certainly didn't disappoint. This came out of the bottle singing and has held up over 4 days, with a wonderful balance between the sweet and savory, fruit and structure, with a chalky texture making for a fresh, taut, crisp and refreshing drink. Superb with a couple of different seafood dishes and on its own. One more great example of price compression making some really good chards available in the $30 or so level, and a close competitor with the Ram's Gate Diablo and the Hanzell. In an excellent drinking window which should have at least 3-5+ years to go. Kicking myself for buying only one. 93-94, and giving it the higher score with its sub $30 price tag. Wildly recommended. |

11/2/2020 - Dean&Libby Likes this wine: 89 pointsThe wine looks light gold colored. The legs are slow. It smells like peach blossom, honeysuckle and peach. It tastes like peach and orange to start, with stoniness and a hint of butterscotch in the finish. The body is light/medium. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. |

10/6/2020 - ChristoBretts Does not like this wine: 88 pointsBegin by saying I've been drinking BDX for a year. Decanted over three days. Full body. Aroma of black fruit with heavy oak. First few hours the taste is heavy oak on highly extracted wine with dusty tannin. Second day the oak settled down as did the tannin, leaving the heavy extracted fruit. Third day much like the second with oak nearly completely gone leaving heavy extraction. Nothing subtle here. Not my style. |

9/24/2020 - sid_loves_wine Likes this wine: 93 pointsReally nice, rich and balanced Syrah from a little region that only acquired AVA status a few months ago in August 2020 (Alisos Canyon!) Really cool to try my first wine from there. Was a fantastic deal on sale at $20 - still good for the usual $30+ price, although not as standout. |
