1986/2019/2020. i have little experience with this estate, except for the 24 bottles of their 2018 2nd wine, Blason d’Issan, which was a fantastic value and very enjoyable. At PnP, the 1986 is showing some primary fruit but clearly beyond its crescendo but still enjoyable. a bit thin, fully resolved tannins. dark berries and cassis quite noticeable. a bit of bricking. enjoyable yet noticeably different stylistically from a typical bordeaux or even a margaux. 2019 and 2020 exhibit the same fruit profile, 2019 coming across lighter, less tannins and not much on the nose. 2020 offers quite a pleasing olfactory experience and more density and concentration of fruit. perhaps the 2019 is shutting down, or it is a vintage variation? time will tell. currently decanting the 19/20 and letting the 1986 slow ox in the wine fridge after a double decant to remove sediment (of which there was surprisingly little). will sample again in 2 hrs

Decanted for 5 hrs and showed really well. Deep purple with Blackcurrant and Parma violets on the nose. Classic Margaux with an elegant smooth mouth feel, velvety on the palate with dark fruit, violet and pencil shavings. Medium tannins with long and refined finish.
Will obviously improve but very approachable now.

This remains a completely classic bottle of Margaux with a deep crimson purple colour and beautiful aromatics of blackcurrant, blackberries, violets, cedar and dark chocolate. The palate is rich and intense with layers of dark fruit flavours, tobacco, chocolate, violets and liquorice leading into a fine line of balancing tannins providing lovely persistence.

Lots of flower aromas of roses and violets with notes of cherries. Tannins are medium-plus with a fine character. The wine tasted better at a hour decant vs 4 hours where it started to lose some of its floral character, however it did smooth out with the extra time.

Currants, cassis, slight pepper, and perfumed silkiness on the nose. Smooth, polished, elegant, light body, medium acidity, fine tannins. Not concentrated or powerful. More delicate. Immediacy of the aftertaste seems to retreat early but a residual longevity lingers with a fine delicate aroma.

Not sure what to make of this...a bit too light and thin for my taste, but has some very good qualities. A high quality, fresh purity of fruit and aromatics.

Might need more time in bottle but drinking well now. I'll have to revisit as this is not the typical powerhouse bordeaux I enjoy but more of a delicate burgundy experience, albeith with a bordeaux taste profile.

Bought recently. Decanted for one hour in a small decanter. Medium garnet colour. Dark fruit, plum, blackberry, prune, herbaceous notes, intense tobacco, milk chocolate, light espresso, spices, balsamic notes, and notable old-age sweetness, with medium-level acidity, mostly resolved tannin, and good to very good length. Medium-bodied, with good concentration. A little angular. Leathery and balsamic on day two. Drink now, and over the next five or six years.

From 375, popped and poured. Clearly on peak drinking plateau from 375. It has the rich, ripe fruit typical of 2009, but still well balanced and good complexity. Simply a very enjoyable wine.

Bordeaux 2004 - 20 Years On - 33 Reds: All wines tasted blind, not decanted. Observations: 1) 2004 is a mediocre vintage overall, with many pleasant wines, but without the depth of better years. 2) At the top, the vintage produced some classic, old-school wines with lots of freshness and fresh fruit. 3) At the lower end, many wines lacked fruit and ripe tannins, resulting in some astringent and slightly drying wines. 4) An alarming number of Right Bank wines (5 out of 16, no Left Bank wine) were oxidized, including some heavyweights like Petrus, Evangile or Figeac. An unacceptably high proportion of faulty wines. 5) I’m not sure that the 2004 are currently in a good phase, many of my scores were lower than in previous tastings. The question is if it’s just a weaker phase or the beginning of the end. 6) At the top and the only wine >95pts was a layered Le Pin (rated 96pts), with a charming Vieux Chateau Certan, a surprising Issan and Clos l'Eglise, as well as an elegant Lafite sharing second place (all rated 94pts).

TN: On the nose, expressive dark fruit, green bell pepper, bretty notes and a beautiful minerality. Quite complex bouquet, very inviting. On the palate fresh strawberries, darker red berries, some blue fruit, minerality, no bretty notes. One of the best wines of the tasting today, quite complex, open and balanced with an impeccable structural frame. I wonder we were just lucky or if all bottles are on this level.

Bought today, at Central Perk Wine & Spirits, 1420 6th Avenue, New York. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, aged in oak, 50% new. Popped and poured. A little closed on day one, more open on day two. Medium to dark garnet colour. Black currant, dark cherry, blackberry, plum, a musty/vegetal aspect that adds complexity, pencil shaving, chocolate, cocoa, espresso, tobacco, spices, liquorice, and light vanilla, with good acidity, well-integrated tannin, and very good length. Medium-bodied, with good concentration, and a creamy texture. Quite enjoyable. Ready now.

Very focused nose. Herbaceous, oaky, very forceful but kind. Dark chocolate and cherry fruit.

I was baffled by the balance between the power on the palate and the fresh 'lift' of the finish.

Cork disintegrated, but decanted with filter for 2 hours. Absolutely gorgeous wine, and probably one of the best I have tasted in years. Still retains slight fruit and ever so slight sweetness. The definition of a beautiful floral margaux. In other words - it's sex in a bottle.

Really starting to come in to its own, good structure and fruit, but hints of secondary notes start to show after a couple hours in the decanter. This can certainly age longer, but a lovely "teenage" Bordeaux here right now.
