Doing Well by Doing Good: A Private Dinner for a Wonderful Cause (A Private Home in Bel Air): In a beautiful place, youthful but balanced. Spiced cherry on the nose, and maybe some forest floor notes. Concentrated layers of ripe, dark berries on the palate, and well-integrated oak. Firm grippiness on the lengthy finish.

Nose dominated by sulphur with a hint of yellow apple... Taste is green acidity, grany smith apple, tart acidity in the finish... average lenght... this is barely drinkable for a Leroy???

Tasted after a very rustic and aged Lafarge Volnay Clos de Chenes 98. The Leroy is in a completely different league.
Young bright still quite deep red. Lovely perfumed cherry nose, almost kirsch, with a core of concentrated ripe fruit no doubt from teh 70 year old vines and super low yields. Lovely balance, minerality and acidity. Not super complex, but glorious fruit and perfume and at 16 years old still I'd guess on the way up. Remarkable wine - the quality of a serious grand cru. (But then these days so is the price, alas!)

Absolutely superb spice on the nose and vibrant red and black fruit notes. Interesting floral component. Wonderfully bright fruit on the palate and a very sexy texture. Love the energy and verve. More approachable than the 1990 we had a couple nights ago. Very long finish with fabulous grip. Best 98 red Burg I have had.

Eight (Not Angry) Men Drinking Great Wine (Paris Club - Chicago IL): Wow, what an alluring wine. Perfumed with enticing spice aromas, intense black fruit and a hint of cherry liqueur. Intense and incredibly powerful, this is slightly hedonistic and one dimensional now, but there is so much youthful energy and concentration that I'm confident nuance will emerge as this wine hits its peak stride, probably after 2025. I had the '93 recently, which might be a more exciting bottle of Burgundy today, but I think this 1990 will be better long-term.

Tasted with 93 Pommard and Savigny, clearly this is a notch above the other 2. With more stuffings, purer fruit, finer tannins and more classy, not as Beaune like as the other 2 and well kept bottles should be able to keep for much longer.

My last bottle, lovely Savigny les Beaune, overall performance very close to Pommard 93 but with slightly more complexity. The rather high acidity will preserve this wine longer.

Still a solid performer, overall the rather high acidity for this vintage should be able to preserve the wine longer, very nice Pommard.

This was so closed on day one that we corked it up after having one glass and saved the rest to see what it did on day two. And the answer was not much. Restrained nose of dark fruit, spice some mineral and a tar note. The palate was narrow, seemingly thin and focused and tight red and black fruit. Very nice energy and tension, but this needs time to unwind. I'm sure the score will improve.

Wonderful and forward nose: bright Leroy fruit - creamy strawberry and cherry, a little rough, sauvage - animal fur, spice, smoke. Very 88 on the palate - tart and sour cherry, strawberry, cranberry, spice - a little murky, lots of acid, stewy, a little sharp and volatile. This isn't quite in focus. Finish is tart cherry, spice and minerals. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16.5/20.

Friday Night Dinner with Friends (Chez Schmidt - Chicago IL): Open an hour+ before serving. Sensational perfume and spice aromatic start with moderately mature red fruit. Slightly more mature flavors of both red and black cherry. Acidity and elegant tannins are very well integrated. Silky, long finish with great textures. At a great place now.

After 4 years, now much better integrated, candied fruit is gone replaced with lovely Leroy floral nose, ripe cherries and lots of spices. Very ripe and good depth for a 07, not thin at all, with good length and still very young and definitely can keep for the medium term.

Bottle No. 00003/2121 from Takashimaya, Nagoya, Japan

This bottle is better than the one we drank last month. Compact nose of Leroy with a beautiful terroir intermixed.

Structure is great, full and firm like drinking from Magnum bottle, very delicious.

The aftertaste is a kind of stunning, deep and powerful.

I decide to bring this bottle to drink today just to compare with the bottle selling outside Japan then we know that the quality is not exactly the same.

Today Bottle No. 00003 performs very good when drinking along with 2003 La Tache and 2003 La Romanee. So much different from the last time, drinking along with a sleepy 1990 La Tache and 2009 La Romanee.

Tonight's the wonderful night !!!

2004 Leroy Blind (NoMI Chicago): Relative to the other bottles this was most consistently good throughout the four hours we drank it. Very bright, forward, energetic. Great forward fruit on the palate. It was a bit more green than the VR and CM in this lineup. Long finish. Great grip and racy character.

2004 Leroy Blind (NoMI Chicago): The surprise of the night, unfortunately to the negative. Initially this was closed and angular on the nose and palate. Slowly more sweet red and blue fruit emerged with a back drop of spice. No green-ness. Medium finish with nice grip. This was getting better but for 3 hours it lagged the others.

This wine is in a better place than it was 2 years ago. Fabulously forward and perfumed nose of red fruit, dried roses. Sweet, tart and acidic on the palate. The finish falls a bit short, but the power on the attach somehow makes up for it.
